<p>Sheridan is known for his iconic filmography which includes movies such as &ldquo;My Left Foot&rdquo;, &ldquo;The Boxer&rdquo; and &ldquo;Brothers.</p>

<p>The award-winning Egyptian documentary "The Brink of Dreams" will premiere in Egypt today, after screening in multiple prestigious film festivals around the world including Cannes Film Festival, Chicago International Film Festival, Biarritz Film Festival, &Eacute;tats g&eacute;n&eacute;raux du film documentaire in France, DokuFest in Kosovo, Afrika Film Festival in Germany, and DER NEUE in Austria.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The movie received international acclaim, as well as various awards, most notably the Golden Eye Documentary Prize at the 77th Cannes Film Festival, becoming the first Egyptian movie to receive this prestigious award.</p>
<p>The film tells the story of a group of girls in a small village in Upper Egypt who form a theater troupe called "Panorama El Barsha", which roams the streets in defiance of the traditions of their conservative environment.</p>
<p>Nada Riyadh, who co-directed the celebrated documentary along with&nbsp;Ayman El Amir, told us all about the journey of making "The Brink of Dreams" and the importance of shedding light on the artistic scene in Upper Egypt.&nbsp;</p>

<p><strong>How did the idea for the movie first come about?</strong></p>
<p>Between 2016 and 2018, Ayman and I were working with a group of Cairo-based organizations supporting women in the arts in Upper Egypt. We traveled frequently to places like Minya, Assiut, and other governorates, where we met the girls -Panorama El Barsha Troupe- who were performing in a nearby village, their performances captured our attention, and we kept in touch with them over the years.</p>
<p>In 2018, they invited us to come to El-Barsha village to screen one of our films, and we did, they were incredibly curious about cinema, and they asked many questions about it. They felt it was a new means of expression they wanted to explore. By that time, we had formed a bond with them and felt like we could make a film about them in&nbsp;El-Barsha.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>From all the groups that you saw, why did you decide that your film is going to be about Panorama El Barsha Troupe?&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>What really drew our attention wasn&rsquo;t just their talent; it was their desire to impact their community, to express their ideas in an authentic, artistic way.</p>
<p>These were young women, mostly in their late teens, full of energy and enthusiasm. Their street performances were interactive&mdash;they weren&rsquo;t only presenting creative and bold ideas but they also were actively trying to engage with the audience in the street, prompting responses and encouraging them to think along with them. This approach was striking for us, as it was something we rarely saw in Upper Egypt.</p>

<p><strong>The film took four years to make; could you tell us about the challenges you faced during that time?</strong></p>
<p>The long timeframe presented many challenges. We had to adapt our filming techniques to the environment and the conditions around us, as we knew from the start that we&rsquo;d be following them over several years, so we needed to keep the crew small, use cameras that weren&rsquo;t too bulky and didn&rsquo;t attract too much attention, and find cinematic solutions that allowed us to capture real, intimate moments without disrupting their daily life.</p>
<p>I think it also took time for us, the girls, and their families to get used to the camera&rsquo;s presence. Our goal was to be there without interrupting the everyday rhythm, capturing the emotions and the dramatic moments unfolding before us.</p>
<p>It took a long time for everyone&mdash;the girls, their families, and the surrounding community&mdash;to grow accustomed to our presence. Eventually, we could walk around without anyone asking who we were or where we were going.</p>
<p>This process required a lot of adaptation, particularly in terms of the crew and filming methods. It was also important to maintain a consistent crew over the years so the people we were filming didn&rsquo;t have to keep rebuilding trust with a new crew.</p>
<p><strong>How did the extended filming period benefit the film?</strong></p>
<p>In the film itself, you watch this talented group grow up before your eyes on the screen. I don't think we could have achieved this without the time we spent there and the filming approach we developed.</p>
<p>In a way, time is the main antagonist in the film, you see it passing, and you watch the four young girls grow, fall in love, and figure out how to pursue their artistic careers.</p>
<p>I don&rsquo;t believe we could have created a film like this without that extended time and the trust we built.</p>

<p><strong>People from Upper Egypt, especially women, are often stereotyped in cinema. Do you think there are opportunities for Upper Egyptian voices to be portrayed in a way that moves beyond these past stereotypes?</strong></p>
<p>This is something we&rsquo;re testing right now, today is the movie premiere in Egyptian cinemas, and I hope that the film, along with the girls&rsquo; presence on the big screen, will help break the stereotype and inspire people to ask for similar portrayals in TV shows and films.</p>
<p>We&rsquo;re incredibly excited about this and we feel that audiences are eager for Egyptian stories about communities we rarely get the chance to see on screen.</p>
<p><strong>How do you see the film's global success and the warm reception at various Egyptian and international festivals impacting the girls of Panorama El Barsha Troupe and their community in Upper Egypt?</strong></p>
<p>The success success of the film exceeded all our expectations. After the girls returned from Cannes, the people from their village welcomed them with a grand celebration at the entrance of the village.</p>
<p>I think for the girls it was a huge moment of triumph. After years of doubts&mdash;questioning whether what they were doing mattered, if their art had real value, or if they were real artists&mdash;they received such an extraordinary welcome from their own community.</p>
<p>Being honored by so many Egyptian institutions also uplifted their spirits immensely and sent a message to other young men and women that they, too, can dream, create art, and have their voices heard and valued.</p>
<p>We&rsquo;ve learned that you and director Ayman El Amir have a new project titled Armstrong, which is also related to Upper Egypt. Could you tell us more about it?</p>

<p><strong>Your new project with director Ayman El Amir,&nbsp;"Armstrong" is also taking place in Upper Egypt.&nbsp;Could you tell us more about it?</strong></p>
<p>"Armstrong" is directed by Ayman El Amir, and it's our upcoming feature film project, and a significant part of it takes place in the village of El-Barsha in Upper Egypt. However, not the entire movie takes place there. However, this time, the focus is on the boys in the village and their dreams. I think we&rsquo;re very attached to Upper Egypt, and we&rsquo;ll continue for some time to tell its stories.</p>

<p><strong>Can you tell us more about how film festivals provide support to young filmmakers?</strong></p>
<p>Festivals, in general, are the primary platform that drives the global film industry. Being selected for festivals is crucial&mdash;it supports the film and provides it with a real opportunity, especially when it comes to distribution.</p>
<p>Support comes in many forms, whether through development programs, financial backing, or other avenues, and in the Arab world, there are several festivals, such as El Gouna Film Festival, Red Sea International Film Festival, Marrakech International Film Festival, and Cairo International Film Festival, all of which provide valuable support to filmmakers, especially Arab filmmakers. This support is essential for the continued growth and success of the film industry.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

Nile FM Exclusive: Nada Riyadh On "The Brink of Dreams" And Giving Voice To Upper Egypt’s Art

<p>Belgian-Egyptian singer/songwriter, Tamino, returned to Egypt once again in his highly anticipated concert, to conclude the tour of his sophomore album &ldquo;Sahar&rdquo; in the main garden of the AUC Tahrir Square.</p>
<p>After the show got sold out in no time, a second show was added on the next day, where Tamino&rsquo;s majestic tunes and atmospheric music blended in with the historical and magical place he was performing at, with a setlist that included many of his most popular and beloved songs, such as &ldquo;The Flame&rdquo;, &ldquo;The First Disciple&rdquo;, &ldquo;Indigo Night&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Habibi&rdquo;.</p>
<p><em>Nile FM got the chance to chitchat with Tamino and delve deeper into his sophomore album and his returning to Egypt.&nbsp;</em></p>

<p><strong>This is your second time performing in Egypt, how does it feel like to come back here?</strong></p>
<p>"I&rsquo;m honored, and I was nervous last night, and I think I will be nervous tonight as well. Usually, I don&rsquo;t get nervous anymore, so I think it means something, I think it&rsquo;s just because I really wanna do extra well for Egypt.</p>
<p>Even though I lived here for 2 years&hellip;but I didn&rsquo;t really grow up here, still it feels like home, it&rsquo;s the country of my father, it&rsquo;s a country that I wanna explore more throughout my life, I wanna learn the language. I&rsquo;ve been saying that for years but I&rsquo;m actually learning a bit.</p>
<p>It means a lot to also bring my band and my crew here because a lot of them have never been in here, last time we had a smaller band and crew.</p>
<p>It&rsquo;s great on many levels."</p>
<p><strong>Since recording each album is its own unique experience, what was unique about recording &ldquo;Sahar&rdquo;?</strong></p>
<p>"The time in which it was recorded, I think for everybody it was a weird time, because of the pandemic and everything.</p>
<p>When the album came out I didn&rsquo;t want it to be stamped as a lockdown record, it&rsquo;s just my second record, I didn&rsquo;t want it to be bound forever with the pandemic, but then looking at it now, it of course affected it, immensely.</p>
<p>I was not on tour anymore, I was home for a long time, it was such a change in my life, my life changed very drastically."</p>

<p><strong>The majority of the album was recorded during the pandemic, did that affect the sound or the subject matter of the album?</strong></p>
<p>"For sure, because I think in terms of the subject matter, I think all of these songs are quite reflective, because it was a reflective time for probably many people, as we could look at our life from another perspective.</p>
<p>And because I was not on big stages anymore at that time, and usually in my room writing songs, that&rsquo;s probably why the record sounds quite roomy, instead of big like the first one [Amir], which was recorded in-between touring, we would tour a week and then we would be home for a week. If I was not on the stage, I was in the studio, and the experience from the stage would influence our time in the studio, cause we would think about the show we just played for a lot of people.</p>
<p>Also those years before &ldquo;Amir&rdquo; included the first shows that I ever did for big crowds, before releasing &ldquo;Habibi&rdquo;, I was playing in pubs, like small gigs, and let&rsquo;s say if I started recording my debut album then it wouldn&rsquo;t have sounded that big, because I couldn&rsquo;t imagine being in front of a big crowd like that."</p>
<p><strong>Your debut album &ldquo;Amir&rdquo; is titled after your first name, why did you choose the title &ldquo;Sahar&rdquo; for your second album?</strong></p>
<p>"Because of that state of reflection in the subject matter.</p>
<p>I asked my father is that a good title? and he said &ldquo;Yeah yeah, it&rsquo;s a first name, a lot of people will think it&rsquo;s about a girl&rdquo; but it means just before dawn, which is this nice in-limbo, transitional moment, sort of an in-between realm, and to me that album sits in that world.</p>

<p><strong>You&rsquo;ve mentioned before that Colin Greenwood has been part of your band, and he&rsquo;s also been a big part of this album, so can you tell us more about your experience working with him?</strong></p>
<p>So firstly, they [Radiohead] were a huge influence as a band, and when I met him [Colin Greenwood], I wouldn&rsquo;t have dreamt of actually working with him, but then was so kind and so open, and I just felt I can really ask him to play on this song, I didn&rsquo;t dare to do more than one, and he said, &ldquo;Yeah, of course&rdquo;.</p>
<p>And when he came to the studio he was nervous, he was more nervous than we were, and we were already quite nervous, because Colin was coming to the studio, but he nailed it of course as you can hear in &ldquo;Indigo Night&rdquo;, I love that bassline.</p>
<p>One thing led to another, and we just asked him to play some songs in a gig, and he learned how to play them all, and before we knew it he was in our band, he was just with us on tour, and then when we started recording &ldquo;Sahar&rdquo; it was just very clear to us that we had to get into the studio with Colin and Ruben [Vanhoutte], and then we included other musicians, but that was the core, Ruben, Colin and me."</p>
<p><strong>Oud is such a prominent instrument in &ldquo;Sahar&rdquo;; why did you include it specifically?</strong></p>
<p>&ldquo;Because it was the instrument I was studying really hard at that time. I used the pandemic to really dive deep into it, and actually, my teacher is with us. He&rsquo;s playing on stage with us tonight. It was the instrument I picked up first in the morning every day. Two years before the pandemic, I already started playing a bit, but always in between touring, and I never really got the time to go at it. There were some songs that would have never been there without the instrument like &ldquo;The First Disciple&rdquo;. It started with an oud melody, I was playing a melody of the chorus and I really liked it, then I started playing the guitar on top of that melody and that became the song. I think I can incorporate the instrument way more in future songs.&rdquo;</p>

<p><strong>Where do you usually draw inspiration from?</strong></p>
<p>&ldquo;From all over. When I write a new song, it is all about starting the work because if I wait for inspiration, nothing really comes. I really have to start working, and then hope for it to come. I do think that in the end, stories really inspire me. I love reading and love narrative. Somehow, it is like you&rsquo;re leading a second life, like a portal to this other dimension. I feel like that can bleed into your work, more than music even, for me.</p>
<p>Music is of course a huge inspiration for me, but also the narrative in my own life and the experiences and the way my life unfolds and the way I can have new experiences, that really is important to me. For example, living in Antwerp in Belgium, but in two weeks, I am moving to New York because I need a new place. New York, for me, I&rsquo;ve been exploring it a bit and I always felt sad when I had to leave because I felt like there&rsquo;s so much more to explore.</p>
<p>So for now that&rsquo;s a good place for me to be in I think, and I will always listen to that. I always wanna be searching. I&rsquo;ve also realized that the artists that inspire me the most are the artists that search throughout their whole life as they keep an open mind and they never arrive, they&rsquo;re never there. They always keep looking and they&rsquo;re curious, that means sometimes having to leave your comfort zone because if you&rsquo;re too comfortable as an artist, I don&rsquo;t think this art comes from that. I think it is important to face your fears and indulge in them.&rdquo;</p>
<p><strong>You&rsquo;ve collaborated with Belgian singer/songwriter Angele on your track &ldquo;Sunflower&rdquo;, which marks your first collab, why specifically did you choose to collaborate with her?</strong></p>
<p>&ldquo;Because we are friends. For me, it is very abstract to ask somebody that I don&rsquo;t know yet, so it was just something that very naturally happened in the pandemic where we got to know each other better a bit better. And when I wrote that song my mind just went to her because we already had the connection. Apart from that, I really love her voice and I love her work, it&rsquo;s a very different world from mine of course.</p>
<p>I think, therefore, even more interesting to see the contrast between the worlds and to see them come together, but I think in the future, if I ever collaborate with other people, for me, it&rsquo;s important to get to know them as it&rsquo;s very weird to step into the studio and start working immediately because I don&rsquo;t know them. I hope that in New York maybe I will meet some people that I will wanna work with eventually after of course we hang out and have fun together.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Jordanian actress Rakeen Saad is known for her shapeshifting abilities to transform as an actress from role to role. Behind Rakeen&rsquo;s dazzling performance is a journey that has spanned more than 10 years. She has been part of the most popular projects including, &ldquo;Rivo,&rdquo; &ldquo;El Rawabi School For Girls,&rdquo; and most recently, the trending show &ldquo;Safah El Giza&rdquo;.</p>
<p>&ldquo;Safah El Giza,&rdquo; follows Ahmed Fahmy, who embodies the character of Gaber, the serial killer with rigid features and a steady hand in killing. We also follow Zeina, played by Rakeen Saad, who is a girl who dreams of being a successful actress. As the story of both characters intertwined, Zeina falls into the claws of Giza&rsquo;s most dangerous serial killer, Gaber.</p>
<p>In a special interview, Rakeen takes us through that journey and into the depths of her latest project &ldquo;Safah El Giza&rdquo;.</p>

<p><strong>How did you get ready for your role as Zeina in Safah El Giza?</strong></p>
<p>&ldquo;I read the script and I sat down with Hady El Bagoury, the director, Ahmed Fahmi, and Ingy Abu el Seoud for table reads to discuss the character&rsquo;s details, what are her motifs and what is real and what is not. We did lots of trials with stylist Reem El Adl and make-up artist, Amr Abdullah to reach what&rsquo;s best for Zeina.</p>
<p>Also, on a personal level, I read a lot, researched more, and practiced with my acting coach Rana Rawaya to improve my physicality and help understand her motifs.&rdquo;</p>

<p><strong>How were you able to sympathize and find the human in Ahmed Fahmi&rsquo;s character Gaber, Safah El Giza?</strong></p>
<p>&ldquo;Zeina&rsquo;s character is split into two parts:&nbsp; the one inside Gaber or Mohy&rsquo;s mind and the real one. With the help of Hady El Bagoury&rsquo;s direction, I found myself able to understand both characters, and I was able to understand which Zeina am I playing. The real one or the made-up one. This was a challenge, but a very fun one.</p>
<p>The thing is Gaber believes that Zeina is sympathetic towards him, but that&rsquo;s not true. She&rsquo;s not. Zeina makes it very clear that she doesn&rsquo;t understand him and doesn&rsquo;t want anything to do with him.</p>
<p>He manipulated her and she was pushed by her belief that she deserved more and that she was stuck in a place that had no chances for her. That&rsquo;s the main reason she believed Mohy and that&rsquo;s when she became the victim. She&rsquo;s rebellious by nature and wants to be seen and get the attention she thinks she deserves. Mohy saw that she was young and she dreamed big and used that against her.&rdquo;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Recently, you&rsquo;ve been working with a lot of streaming-services-based projects, how do you feel towards streaming services and what makes them special?</strong></p>
<p>&ldquo;I&rsquo;m really happy to work with streaming services because this is the natural progression of media. What makes it special is that we had time to perfect the scenes. I didn&rsquo;t feel pressured because of a set time frame like in the Ramadan season. Also, the idea that an audience can binge-watch a show, and have the full control to play and stop it, is amazing. That&rsquo;s an interrelation between streaming services and TV, now you can access TV series on streaming services at your own pace.&rdquo;</p>

<p><strong>Can you describe your characters (Noaf- Zeina- Mariam) in a few words?</strong></p>
<p>&ldquo;Noaf is a unique character and a very smart one. Zeina is a rebellious spirit with a sensitive personality and she&rsquo;s also both a dreamer and a victim. On the other hand, Mariam&rsquo;s character is really close to mine. She is really close to my heart. I believe she&rsquo;s an emotional character, who is also stubborn yet sensitive.&rdquo;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Previously, you&rsquo;ve acted in serval languages and accents. Which of these accents are you most familiar with and comfortable with?</strong></p>
<p>&ldquo;My mother tongue, the Jordanian language, is where I feel most comfortable as I can express myself the most. However, in general, I really like to experiment with accents. At this very moment, I&rsquo;m also very familiar with the Egyptian accent and I&rsquo;m used to it by now.&rdquo;</p>

<p><strong>You&rsquo;ve collaborated with some of the biggest names and some of the most successful projects, do you consider yourself a lucky person, existing at the right time in the right place, or a very calculated person?</strong></p>
<p>&ldquo;Of course, I feel like I hit the Jackpot and that I&rsquo;m extremely lucky to be able to work on such projects with huge names. I&rsquo;ve learned a lot from them and am very thankful to be part of the Egyptian film industry.&rdquo;</p>
<p>&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Which celebrities would you love to work and collaborate with?</strong></p>
<p>&ldquo;There&rsquo;s a long list! The people I worked with already are much less than those I want to work with. I don&rsquo;t wanna name names because this is just the beginning of the road.</p>
<p>Currently, I&rsquo;m in the middle of a few very exciting projects and I&rsquo;m thrilled to talk about them. I should add that there might be a huge surprise very soon so stay tuned. I can&rsquo;t get into much detail but it&rsquo;s a movie and a TV show.&rdquo;</p>

Exclusive Interview With Rakeen Saad “Safah El Giza” Star

<p>Award-winning comic artist Deena Mohamed celebrated the release of the English version of &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo; with a book signing and a discussion, in which she talked about her journey translating her highly-acclaimed debut graphic novel and the obstacles she faced while translating the deep-rooted Egyptian cultural nuances in order to reach English-speaking readers.</p>
<p>After her success with the webcomic series, &ldquo;Qahera&rdquo;, Deena Mohamed's debut novel&nbsp;&ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo; was awarded Best Graphic Novel and the Grand Prize of the Cairo Comix Festival in 2017. &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo; was originally released in Arabic and split into 3 parts, before getting picked up by the esteemed publishing house, Pantheon Books, which is responsible for publishing many distinguished graphic novels, such as &ldquo;Persepolis&rdquo;, &ldquo;Habibi&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Maus&rdquo;.</p>
<p>&ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo; embraces and celebrates the kiosk culture while fusing it with urban fantasy in a whimsical alternate version of Egypt where wishes can be purchased. The story follows 3 individuals from radically different backgrounds: Aziza, Nour, and Shokry, who are only linked by a modest Kiosk where the three of them buy a first-class wish from.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>The Genesis Of &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo;</strong></span></p>
<p>Deena explained that her admiration for the Egyptian kiosk culture was the starting point for &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo;, she said, &ldquo;Originally I wanted to write a story about Kiosks, I wanted to draw them actually, more than to write about them, and I wanted to write a story that was more based on fantasy because I have just finished doing a webcomic and the webcomic was very satirical and I wanted to do something that was more of a narrative, more of a longer story. When I started with "Shubeik Lubeik". She added, &ldquo;I wanted to do a kiosk and I wanted it to sell a magical object, and then I thought of a wish, and then I had to think of what kind of a world where you could sell a wish in.&rdquo;</p>
<p>The meticulous world-building of &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo; was an easier task for Deena to create, but bringing it all to life was the real challenge, Deena said, &ldquo;I just came up with the world and then I put the rules for it and I came up with the story, it was like in three hours I outlined all of it and then I spent six years drawing it. You always pay for your ideas.&rdquo;</p>
<p>&ldquo;It was from the beginning I knew that the Kiosk would be the link between the stories.&rdquo; Deena said, &ldquo;When I was coming up with the concept of wishes I was thinking of what people would wish for, so I immediately was thinking about grief, and then I was thinking about happiness, and I was thinking about health, so I already know what the stories are going to be about.&rdquo;</p>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>The Expansion Of &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo;</strong></span></p>
<p>The first version of &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo; which Deena self-published in 2017, went through many changes over the years, with added pages expanding the story, Deena explained that by saying, &ldquo;In terms of editorial, the first part you can kind of see it grow because when I self-published it, it was around 80 pages, and then when I published it with Dar El-Mahrousa after it won the award, it was 120 pages because the award was a residency in France with other comic artists. When I went to France I realized that other comics artists put a lot of effort into their work and I was kind of jealous, and I felt like I could do better, so I decided to go back and add maybe 30-40 pages, and then for the English [version] I added another 20 pages.&rdquo;</p>
<p>She also talked about why the first part was the one that got the most expansion of the three, &ldquo;From the stories&rsquo; perspective, the first part was so hard to reach the final edition for it, but the second and third parts were very planned, so the third part nothing changed in the English [version] because I had already put in my maximum effort for the Arabic [version]. In the second part, there are a few changes in the English [version] but it&rsquo;s also not that significant. So actually I&rsquo;m interested now in the people who have read the Arabic [version], how they feel about the English [version].&ldquo;</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>The Journey Of Publishing &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo;</strong></span></p>
<p>Deena talked about her journey of publishing her debut novel, and how strenuous it is to pursue a career in such a niche market &ldquo;You still can&rsquo;t make a living publishing graphic novels, so the only reason I was able to publish &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo; in Arabic was because of the translation. I actually sold the translation before I sign the contract with El-Mahrousa in Egypt.&rdquo; Then she added, &ldquo;We have several really amazing Egyptian comic artists here, and they also have to sell translations or get a grant in order to finish [making] graphic novels in Arabic. Some people can draw a page a day, and some people take a week to draw a page, so if you imagine how long it takes to draw a graphic novel, it&rsquo;s a very time-intensive task and it needs a lot of money actually&rdquo;.</p>
<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>Translating &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo; &amp; The Decision To Keep It From Right-To-Left</strong></span></p>
<p>Deena also shared her taxing experience of translating &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo;, she said, &ldquo;Translating is really hard because when I was writing the Arabic parts I wasn&rsquo;t thinking about how I would translate it, it was a problem for my future self, so I didn&rsquo;t really consider how difficult it&rsquo;s going to be because they [the characters] speak in lots of different dialects and there&rsquo;s a lot of localized things in it."</p>
<p>The English &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo; isn&rsquo;t published like the traditional from-left-to-right English graphic novels, but it&rsquo;s read from right to left just like its Arabic counterpart, Denna talked about what led her to this decision saying, &ldquo;Keeping it right to left for me was important because when I was translating it, I realized that it&rsquo;s always going to feel like a translation, and I liked that.&rdquo; She continued, &ldquo;When I read manga or when I watch something that is subtitled I like the feeling that it&rsquo;s translated. Like no one reads manga and thinks it&rsquo;s originally in English like you know it&rsquo;s originally in Japanese and you can tell it&rsquo;s a translation and you still enjoy it, so I wanted to keep the same feeling, that you know it&rsquo;s a translation but you still enjoy it&rdquo;.</p>
<p>She also talked about how she convinced Pantheon of that decision, &ldquo;I asked Pantheon if we can keep it right to left and they actually didn&rsquo;t mind at all. They kind of care about the production a lot, Pantheon has published a lot of nice looking books, and they&rsquo;ve also published a lot of Japanese hardcover books and they published them from right to left, so it wasn&rsquo;t too difficult to convince them&rdquo;.</p>
<p>However, the most crucial reason for keeping the graphic novel from right to left was the Arabic calligraphy, Deena clarified, &ldquo;The short answer for why I had to keep it from right to left is because the wishes in &ldquo;Shubeik Lubeik&rdquo; are made of Arabic calligraphy, and you can&rsquo;t flip it", she continued, &ldquo;the flow of the story kept stopping at the wishes, so I think that&rsquo;s part of the decision to keep it right-to-left, and I think it made a big difference, even in the way people receive it, it&rsquo;s like a novelty to them.&rdquo;</p>

<p><span style="text-decoration: underline;"><strong>The Difference Between The Reception Of The Arabic &amp; The English Versions</strong></span></p>
<p>When Deena was asked about the difference between the reception of the book in the Eastern and Western cultures, she replied, &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve learned through my career so far to stop predicting my audience because I will always think people will receive it in a certain way. I was aware, at least for the Arabic [version], I know what people like about it because it&rsquo;s been 3 parts and we have conversations about it, especially at Cairo Comix I see how people react to it every year, people message me online all the time about what they think of this part or that part. For the Arabic [version], people focus on the story more, they tend to focus on the characters, and the wishes, and the events, in the English [version] there were a lot of discussions about the infographics, so like the world itself.&rdquo;</p>
<p>She also opened up about her worries that English-speaking readers will face some sort of cultural barrier, she said, &ldquo;Before the English version came out I was definitely a little nervous because I was worried that the English-speaking readers wouldn&rsquo;t like it the same way the Egyptian readers would. It shouldn&rsquo;t be a good Egyptian comic; it should just be a good comic.&rdquo; Then she added, &ldquo;That was the part right before it came out, but now it&rsquo;s been out for a while and I know that people who have no experience with Egypt, or people who have no familiarity with the characters or the story still enjoy it, so I feel like in this part it worked out.&rdquo;</p>

<p>Ahmed El Ghandour is a well-known Egyptian YouTuber and content creator, best known for his online persona &ldquo;Al-Dahih&rdquo;, who is a heavy researcher, specified in the field of the simplification of science in an easy and fun way to grab the audience&rsquo;s attention. He succeeded to do so and has created a huge fanbase.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Ahmed El Ghandour began his career by sharing his videos on YouTube in 2014, he explained that &ldquo;The idea came to me from my participation in a scientific competition at the British Embassy, where we presented a scientific idea in three minutes, and I was asked by many of the attendees to make videos on YouTube".</p>

<p>This event was officially announced&nbsp;at a press conference held today at the British Embassy, by the British Ambassador to Egypt, Gareth Bayley, and Ahmed Abouzahra, Co-founder and General Manager of Arabesque International, the event&rsquo;s organizing company.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The British Ambassador to Egypt, Gareth Bayley described the event as a cultural bridge between Egypt and the United Kingdom, emphasizing that this will be the Royal Philharmonic&rsquo;s first performance in Egypt. He also highlighted the event will be a unique experience where audiences will enjoy both classical masterpieces and renowned film scores at the Grand Egyptian Museum.</p>

<p>Ana Juarez, Founder &amp; Executive Director at Women in Mining Central America&nbsp;was NileFM's guest at the "CEO Women" Conference, and she shared her experience as a woman in the mining industry, and the challenges she faced to lead as a woman in a male-Dominated Industry.&nbsp;</p>
<p>Ana is an accomplished professional with a proven track record in the mining industry. She brings a unique blend of expertise and leadership with experience as a non-executive director and more than 15 years of experience in environmental consulting within the mining sector.</p>
<p>Ana's commitment to advancing gender equality and educational initiatives in the mining sector has earned her recognition as one of the 100 global inspirational women in mining in 2002, the most inspiring woman in mining in 2003, and the Rising Star Award. <p><strong>What does empowering women mean to you?&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>I think the word that comes to mind immediately is uplifting&mdash;how we uplift each other. We cannot uplift ourselves; it has to come from someone else. You need people to support you in whatever you're doing. You cannot be a leader if you don't have followers. You cannot achieve great things by yourself either. I think it has to be part of a group of people supporting you to get there.</p>
<p>When we think about women empowerment, we think about who you're supporting, of course, but who is supporting you to be in that position as well?</p>
<p><strong>How have you broken those barriers to reach all the success you've reached today in the field of mining?&nbsp;</strong></p>
<p>Mining has such a long history in our world. I've been in Egypt right now for the last week, and we visited so many places. Everything I saw comes from mining. It's not something that's new; it has been part of our life and our society for so long. We just forget it. If you think about all the monuments that are here, everything comes from marble and limestone, and everything was mined. Mining has always been there, but women have not always been part of the industry.</p>
<p>If you think about what is happening now, we have around 8% to 17% of women representation in the mining workforce, so it's very low. If you consider that in other industries, you have around 35%, I think that's the percentage that's used worldwide. We're almost 20% down in the mining industry. If we think about women in leadership positions in the mining industry, that percentage gets even lower. Last time I heard, the co-positions were less than 3%, 4%, or 5%. There are very few women in mining who are working as CEOs. If you think about board positions, it gets even harder. Of course, nowadays, with so many quotas needed to fill, it has changed and evolved. We have more women representing, but where there are no quotas and they don't need to comply, the representation is still very low.</p>
<p>If I think about women like myself&mdash;Latinas who are also young and women of color&mdash;below 60, I must say, because all the men are mainly white and older, we are around 1%. There are just very, very few women managing to be in the mining industry. It's a bit hard; it hurts to say it, but it's a reality. We are not enough women. I was mentioning this in the panel before. One of the things is that it's a very technical industry. We don't want women just to be on the administrative side; there are not enough roles also in the administrative side. We also need women on the technical side, and I think that's where we're lacking.</p>
<p>There are not enough women in our countries. At least I think I heard right now on the panel that there are some differences in these countries, which I'm really happy to see. But in our countries, we see that there's not enough women studying STEM roles&mdash;science, technology, engineering, and mathematics. That's what we do in mining engineering, so a lot of these roles cannot be filled by women because women don't study those careers. It's a hard process, and we see that there's still a lot of change that we need to do. But yes, it's a reality that we are facing.</p>
<p><strong>when people hear about your career, when you walk into a room, do you feel like there's still something to be proven?</strong></p>
<p>Yes, 100%. I don't know if sometimes it&rsquo;s us women feeling that we need to&mdash;last time I heard a statistic, it said that when a position is open, men with 50% of the qualifications apply for it. Women need to be overqualified; they need to feel that they comply with 100% and more to even be considered or to even think of applying.</p>
<p>Sometimes I feel that it comes from us that we need to be super sure that we're going to do the work well. I think sometimes it doesn't come from men; sometimes it comes from our backgrounds and the way we were brought up. when I was seeing the panels, there were a lot of women doctors&mdash;very well-prepared women who were very skilled&mdash;and then I saw the men, of course, who were skilled too, but they were not as qualified as the women. So I think we as women always try to overachieve because we feel that we need to prove that we are worthy of the seat.</p>
<p><strong>It's not easy to write a book. What inspired you, with the career that you have, to put it into a book?</strong></p>
<p>One of the gaps we saw as women in the industry was the STEM gap. We didn't see enough women studying STEM to be able to fulfill roles, and of course, we don't have enough women working in the mining industry. One of the things I did was to start a nonprofit called Women in Mining Central America. My real work is as an environmental consultant, which is funny, but I started this nonprofit, and the idea is that we started working with kids because we had plans for the short term, medium term, and long term.</p>
<p>Of course, working with kids is not going to bring immediate results, but I knew that it was important for accomplishing the long-term objective that we wanted. The first initiative we had was a kids&rsquo; mining club, so it's like Scouts, but it's like Scouts for learning about minerals and mining.</p>
<p>That's amazing! We started that initiative, and because we didn't have enough literature for kids, I wrote the book called "Ana's Adventures in the Mine." The idea of the book is that it&rsquo;s like a Harry Potter book&mdash;very adventurous&mdash;but at the same time, we wanted it to be educational, and we wanted to plant a seed. We wanted the kids to think, and because all the characters of the story are real women who work in the mining industry, we wanted them to see themselves reflected, thinking, "Okay, I can be part of the industry."</p>
<p>The interesting part is that all the women in the story have different backgrounds. One is a chemist, another is a lawyer, and so many others with different careers. I wanted them to see that you don't have to be a geologist to enter the industry; you can be many things and still be part of it. This is the little seed we wanted to plant to encourage our kids.</p>
<p>Of course, it grew much more than I would have ever thought. In six months, we had a spot on the Amazon bestseller list. The book has been translated and is coming out in other languages right now, almost counting eight languages. We have German and Chinese coming out soon as well. It has been distributed around the world, which was incredible too&mdash;to get pictures from kids in Greece, South Africa, Argentina, and really all parts of the world, seeing themselves as part of the industry.</p>
<p>That was an interesting process to undertake, and I hope that it supports the vision I have of having more women in the industry.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>

<p>Nargiza Akbekova, Founder &amp; CEO of AI Group&nbsp;was NileFM's guest at the "CEO Women" Conference, and she told us all about her leadership vision and the challenges that she faced throughout her career.</p>
<p><strong>How would you define empowering women?</strong></p>
<p>Empowering women is the next level of leadership training, but we started personally to pay attention to women's leadership in the last year.</p>
<p>Usually, when we go to conferences to deliver our speeches and present our training, we are the only women among men. This has actually inspired us to be part of the Women in Business International campaign. As I presented at the CEO Women Conference, the Skill Hub, which is part of AI Group and a newly opened training institute in Dubai, United Arab Emirates. It became the first training institute to be a part of the Women in Business International Campaign, which allows us to give discounted prices and privileges to women entrepreneurs.</p>
<p><strong>Speaking of women entrepreneurs, how do you think we can foster a more equal and diverse space for women to thrive?</strong></p>
<p>I think women are in the right place at the moment. I believe men should do men&rsquo;s work and women can do women&rsquo;s work.&nbsp;</p>
<p>As a CEO, as a woman, I understand that we have a very different vision from men CEOs. We are mostly focused on emotional intelligence; meanwhile, men are more logical at work. They are more about numbers and specific deals. I believe in the combination of men and women. When we talk about empowering women, it doesn't mean that we say zero to men managers and top management.</p>
<p>What I mean is that everything is good in balance and combination. I always prefer at my client's company to make a combination of a CEO as a man or woman and a COO as another. When they work together, it is a great balance. It is a great combination because we are all different, and we can combine and add more value to the companies, to the income, and to the clients. We can make more exceptional customer service when we are combined together.</p>
<p>So for me, it is not only women&rsquo;s education or men&rsquo;s education. We are always trying to combine and unite people.</p>
<p><strong>You said in AI Group you were the only woman CEO in the room up until a year ago. How have you overcome these challenges and how do you feel you can continue to overcome these challenges?</strong></p>
<p>You know, I founded AI Group in 2015, and as a young CEO, I never attended any conferences and public speeches before. For the last two years, when I really started to be more public and try to empower others with my story, I found out that 99% of all of the attendees and major speakers are men.</p>
<p>How do I feel about that? It's always exciting. The day before the conference, I'm always looking through the guest list, and the speaker list, and the major part I always see is 90% men. It's not just men; it is top management, it is parliament speakers, it is politicians, it is celebrities. I always feel myself as a small Central Asian girl, 20 years old, coming to this big stage. I was always not just excited but, of course, afraid as well because when you're going to the big stage.</p>
<p>I have a great background, I have nice experience because we experienced so many things with AI Group. When I founded the company, we faced three crises. COVID was the final one we thought, but then it was war and circumstances in the region. My experience aligned with all of these crises, but when we came to the stage for the first time with my team, I was speechless for one day. I just didn't talk to anyone, and I tried to deal with myself, and how to be confident in front of these people.</p>
<p><strong>Can you tell us a little bit about the challenges you faced?</strong></p>
<p>I started to work for the first time when I was 18, and the story is very simple and funny. I come from a conservative Muslim family.</p>
<p>In our culture in Central Asia girls' education is not a priority. The major part of the girls' culture is to be married, to serve their husband&rsquo;s family, to be a good wife, to be a good daughter, and to focus more on family.</p>
<p>Why I started to work that early because I wanted to study abroad in the States and in Europe, but my father didn't allow me to go out of the country. He said, "Nar, you are not married, so you have to stay at home." So, there is no possibility for me to have a foreign education.</p>
<p>My luck was that at 15 years old, I switched to the economic and financial college, so at 18, I would have had at least one simple educational degree. I gave my documents to online education at the university, and I started to work full-time. I couldn't find a job, of course; this was a new market when you didn't have any experience. I was just sending my CV 100,000 times a day to find something. I found my first job, and I started as an accountant assistant with a salary of $90.</p>
<p>It was a big jewelry manufacturer, and I really did my best. I tried and worked so hard, and meanwhile, I started to think about my own business. So, before COVID, mostly I was doing jewelry import and export with fashion accessories. We were importing a lot of goods from Singapore, from Vietnam, from China, and from Turkey. We were all about the B2B fashion exhibitions, finding the distributors, and sending a wholesale bunch of products. When COVID hit, it just all stopped. The exhibition industry actually hasn't come back yet to its position. It's already four years ahead of it, but it's still not at a good level as it was before.</p>
<p>During COVID, I started to think about what to do and how we could switch our companies. It was quite impossible. We were great at event management at exhibitions, and we just started to pack all of the knowledge that we have into online services so we can consult people on how to make it in the future.</p>
<p>But COVID was very challenging because we didn't want to fire people. In order to keep their basic salaries, I sold my house. I sold my car. By that time, I had already made a lot of money, and my partners and I sold actually every asset that we had. We didn't have that many, but I had one apartment and a car, so at least to cover costs to keep the team together. We didn't have any income during COVID.</p>
<p>Then we switched to online services, which was business development in a completely new field. I was already in Dubai just before COVID, so in the middle of the crisis, I didn't have any money or any house, and I was in Dubai, one of the most expensive cities in the world. I remember technically when I had my last $1,700 in my bank account. It was like manifestation. I told in my speech, that just when I understood that everything was gone, I made a new vision board. I put my goals on it.</p>
<p>I was in so much debt back then. Yes, I sold some stuff, but I also needed to give money to the clients for the advanced payments, and the investors' money for the clients as well. It was a big, big money gap back then.</p>
<p>Then it&rsquo;s all about manifestation and hard work. Two years after COVID, I didn't have any days off. I literally bought a bed in my office so I didn't go home. I lived in the office, and we used to work 20, sometimes 22 hours per day, which was crazy&mdash;no weekends, no days off, no parties. So, after two years of extremely hard work, we made tons of money, we paid out our debts, and we invested a lot of money into our new projects, then the Russian war started, and we lost everything in 6 months again.</p>
<p>A lot of bank accounts got frozen, a lot of investments got frozen and it was the same situation as it was in COVID but I think worse because everything was clear.</p>

<p>May Wafa, Head of FIG for sub Saharan Africa at JP Morgan Chase&nbsp;was NileFM's guest at the "CEO Women" Conference, and she shared with us all about leadership, work-life balance, and the signficant role that men play in empowering women.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>How do you define empowering women?</strong></p>
<p>First of all, it&rsquo;s amazing to be here and see all these fascinating people engaging in panels, discussions, and networking. It's fantastic.</p>
<p>Seeing the number of male figures in the room was fantastic&mdash;very encouraging. Their speeches and open discussions were empowering. It&rsquo;s great to have women talking to other women, but we need men in the conversation too. Men as allies are very important in order to empower women.</p>
<p>There are lots of programs that are there such as mentorship and sponsorship, those are very important for empowering women, but the main idea and what I found really inspiring today when I heard one of the CEOs and chairmen speaking about that it's great to have numbers, but how can we facilitate the work life for women.&nbsp;</p>
<p>We all talk about work-life balance, but what are we doing to do that, we keep encouraging women to have a work-life balance but what are the companies doing in order to encourage and empower women in order to have this work-life balance, I believe empowerment has a big scope, but one of the main things is getting things into action rather than putting policies and procedures without applying them.&nbsp;&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Women are often asked, &ldquo;How do you do it all?&rdquo; It&rsquo;s a question that&rsquo;s rarely directed at men, which still reflects a gendered division when it comes to balancing work and life.</strong></p>
<p>I actually managed to achieve balance thanks to my husband. If it weren&rsquo;t for his support and belief in the importance of my role, I wouldn&rsquo;t be here today. There have been milestones within my career where I considered stepping down or not taking certain opportunities, and he was surprisingly the one pushing me to do it. I was like, &ldquo;That&rsquo;s quite interesting!&rdquo; This encouragement definitely comes from my husband, and I also need to acknowledge my family. Don&rsquo;t be shy to ask for support; everyone is there for you!</p>
<p>If you mention the male figure as an example of why men are not being asked about work-life balance, guess what? It&rsquo;s because they&rsquo;re getting support from their wives, friends, moms&mdash;everyone around them. There&rsquo;s an automatic support system for men that isn&rsquo;t questioned.</p>
<p>But when you see a woman, you ask, &ldquo;How are you doing it?&rdquo; Because, relatively speaking, we&rsquo;re not very present in some of the jobs that we do. For example, I work for Sub-Saharan Africa, and if you know what that means, it involves traveling to very interesting countries like Nigeria and Zimbabwe&mdash;not always the nice tourist destinations. But if it wasn&rsquo;t for everyone supporting me&mdash;from my mom, my sister, my friends, and also the fact that I have help at home from an amazing woman who supports another family, so it&rsquo;s a sequence of events&mdash;a domino effect, if I may say so.</p>
<p><strong>You&rsquo;ve been to many different cultures. How can you compare the strides that have been taken internationally for women in the workplace or women in leadership positions?</strong></p>
<p>You know, it&rsquo;s a big scope. It depends on the composition of the company itself. Today, we saw chairmen who were all male giving stats and numbers about the progress they have made and the programs they are implementing to empower women.</p>
<p>In Egypt, I was particularly fascinated by the progress we&rsquo;re making. We&rsquo;re definitely making amazing strides, and if you look at multinationals, I believe they are more mature in terms of how they tackle the diversity and inclusion agenda in general and specifically the women&rsquo;s agenda.</p>
<p>Is it fair to say we&rsquo;re doing fantastically now? No, there&rsquo;s definitely more to be done. Are we on the right track? Absolutely! We can see more women in leadership positions and public speaking, even running for the U.S. presidency. We can now see a female figure with a very high probability of making it, so I think we&rsquo;re not really way behind everyone else.</p>
<p>I don&rsquo;t want to undermine the fact that we have done really well in Egypt, based on the stats mentioned today. It&rsquo;s worth noting that the majority of those companies are multinationals. However, I hope to hear more from local companies, and I believe that if you look at the political arena, you can also see that Egypt is doing really well with strong female figures present.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>What advice would you give women to keep going and not feel pressured or demotivated by the industry?</strong></p>
<p>We talked about this today, the opportunities that exist now and the equal distractions that can easily deter you. There&rsquo;s a lot going on, especially with social media and everything at the tip of your fingers. My advice is old school: be consistent, be persistent, be resilient, and don&rsquo;t get demotivated if you fail because failure is there to help you appreciate success when it comes.</p>
<p>Just don&rsquo;t feel demotivated! Women are known for their patience, so please leverage your merits. We are inherently resilient and patient. We need to go back to our roots and embrace the qualities we genuinely have. We are created differently, and if you look at males and females, there&rsquo;s no right or wrong answer; we simply complement each other.</p>
<p>Everyone has their own strengths, and we bring a complete picture to the table. At some point, you&rsquo;ll find that you have more empathy while some men have a more realistic view, and then you&rsquo;ll be surprised to discover you are the one mitigating risks while they are making hasty decisions. I think we create balance together. It&rsquo;s unfortunate to think about women and men as equals and to have them at the table, whether as entrepreneurs, leaders, or simply having a seat at the table, because you&rsquo;re wasting 50% of your talent pool, from creativity, ideas, productivity&mdash;everything!</p>
<p><strong>If you could give one piece of advice from your experience and everything you&rsquo;ve learned until today, what would it be?&nbsp;</strong>&nbsp;</p>
<p>I would say three pieces of advice. The first piece of advice for women is, once you make it, please be aware of the Queen Bee Syndrome, which is the idea that once you reach a certain position, you become the only one entitled to it. Don&rsquo;t make that mistake! Please give a hand and pay it forward to the other female generations. Try to help them up the same way you were helped. We fully appreciate the hard journey you&rsquo;ve been through, but you can make the next generation&rsquo;s journey easier by paving the way for them. Not everyone has to go through the same obstacles; we can help each other out! And I&rsquo;m saying this from a position where I have been helped before. Honestly, the first thing I think about is paying it forward to the next generation.</p>
<p>The second piece of advice is for men: without you, we won&rsquo;t achieve anything. Men as allies are very important. Remember, you may have a wife, a mom, or a daughter, and they are all female, so we present a big part of your family, so please be a support system for us.&nbsp;</p>
<p>And the third one is basically for the companies and the corporations please don't hire or promote females just to fill up the quota, please bring up the good talents because if you're doing this, you're only ticking a box, not doing justice to anyone because we will be portrayed as "She has reached there because she's a female" and we don't this.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Carol Milan, President and Managing Director of Henkel Egypt&nbsp;was NileFM's guest at the "CEO Women" Conference, and she shared her insights on leadership, breaking barriers, and empowering the next generation of women in business.</p>
<p>Carol is a seasoned business leader with over 25 years of experience in local and international markets. She holds a diploma in Business from the Lebanon University of Economics and two master's degrees from ESCP France. She started her career with Henkel in 1996 and began as General Manager of Henkel Lebanon in 2004. In June 2022, Carol became President and Managing Director of Henkel Egypt and Chairman of Henkel Lebanon.</p>
<p><strong>How you would define empowering women in 2024?</strong></p>
<p>In 2024, I think we've come a long way. In my 25 years of experience, I think at the beginning, I had to pick the jobs that would work for me, pick the environment that would be okay for me. But I learned along the way that a lot of men are really creating the right environment for women to flourish. If they didn&rsquo;t, I would have never reached where I am today.</p>
<p>I think I was very lucky to have a lot of men in my life who played a very positive role, starting with my father, who was a big advocate for women reaching out, growing, and studying. In fact, his one condition before I got married was that I complete my education properly and work. My husband continued that support, believing in me in an incredible way, sometimes with ambition for me that was even bigger than my own.</p>
<p>At work, I was blessed to meet many male bosses who saw something in me and pushed me forward. I was determined, resilient, and hardworking; it didn&rsquo;t come just because I'm a woman and they wanted to support me. They saw something in me and supported that. If they had decided to put up barriers, I would not be here today.</p>
<p>So, it&rsquo;s up to us to grow, and there will be many people supporting us. Of course, there were men who were conservative and, at a certain point, did not believe in me, but let's be honest&mdash;there were also women who didn&rsquo;t believe in me. So, let&rsquo;s not stay stuck in the stereotype of "men vs. women."</p>
<p>Luckily, young women today are in a much more advanced environment where they can flourish faster, with policies and strategies that support them. In my time, the support came from individuals themselves, but now there are established structures to help. So, I think we&rsquo;re only advancing in that, and it&rsquo;s up to women to have confidence, and trust, and to work very hard if they choose to build a strong career.</p>
<p><strong>How have you been able to establish your success while breaking barriers from both genders?</strong></p>
<p>There are barriers much stronger than gender when you want to succeed in a significant role.</p>
<p>Gender was one of the challenges, but not the only or the most important one. I was blessed with a good environment, but there are no barriers that can&rsquo;t be crossed if you put your heart and mind to it.</p>
<p>I&rsquo;ve faced a lot of challenges in my life, living in Lebanon, and the Levant, this is an area that has a lot of economic instability, political instability, and security issues, these challenges are much stronger than gender. But you deal with that with faith, by proving to people that you're making it, that you're able to take those challenges and turn them into opportunities, and to reach where you want to reach.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>For young entrepreneurs striving to achieve something in any field, what&rsquo;s one piece of advice you would give them for success?</strong></p>
<p>Believe in yourself, keep dreaming, and stretch your dreams, but remember that nothing comes easy. You have to work hard, trust yourself, and never give up.</p>
<p>You&rsquo;ll face many difficulties, and no hill is the biggest one; each hill prepares you for the next. Keep your energy and continue growing.</p>
<p>I&rsquo;d like to end with one quote, if I may, from a children&rsquo;s movie that is inspiring: "Have courage and be kind." This advice is for everyone, men and women.</p>
<p>Have courage because the world requires it, but be kind, as kindness is what helps you grow and positively impact the people and businesses around you.</p>

<p><strong>What does "CEO Women" stand for or mean to you in your incredible career?</strong></p>
<p>For a woman or a man, it's similar, the same criteria need to be applied, to achieve and to be successful in that position.</p>
<p>First of all, this is what I usually do, to lead with your heart. We are all human, and whatever brand you are working for, it is people who are making a difference. The brand is something but it is people who are building this brand and making it grow, so you need to be human and lead with your heart.</p>
<p>You need to be a leader, and being a leader is not a title, being a leader is something that needs to be acquired on a daily basis. It's not because you have the title of the CEO that you think that I made it, I'll step back and I'm just giving orders. A leader is somebody that people trust, believe in, and follow. It doesn't mean that they love the person or like the person but at least they feel that they can refer to, and they can follow this person, inspiring them, having solutions, and being hands-on. So you can be a very good leader and suddenly step back and be in your comfort zone and lose credibility in the eyes of your people.</p>
<p>Also, you need to have a vision, and when I say a vision, it's a business understanding vision, and this is not given. A CEO cannot know everything, this person relies on several competencies and needs to have a vision and a global understanding of the business in which he or she is operating to be able to give the right guidance, and the right understanding of the market in which they are operating.</p>
<p>What I discovered, and what I saw all over my 30 years of career is that when people reach such a position, they take it personally, I need to defend this chair, but they totally forget that there are ups and downs, and my main slogan is that; it is not the title, it is not the chair it is the impact that you are doing, because one day you will leave the chair, and my wish is that whenever I leave a position people remember me with good things, and remember that I changed their life, or contributed for their growth, or I did something that they learned from and they are applying in their lives.</p>
<p><strong>In your career you were able to combine your love for business and your love for people, what inspired you to combine those two and focus on inspiring young entrepreneurs?</strong></p>
<p>When I started my career I didn't have all of this in mind, but I have a small gem that needs to be cleaned up all over, and what I consider a gem is the soft skills, the willingness, the perseverance, the stubborn sometimes, to never give up.</p>
<p>I had a dream when I started my career, to become somebody, I wanted to be somebody influential, that people can remember my good acts, and I can help others, and so grew with me all over the 30 years.</p>
<p>My career was really hard because I was in France, an Eastern woman in a Western world in a man's business, so if you look around the maximum that a woman can achieve in the Western world is the PA of a Chairman, not a decision-making position. So I have been through a lot, lots of roadblocks, lots of challenges, lots of races, and especially the challenge to prove myself against my peer men who had everything easy, but as a woman you need to work 10 times harder.&nbsp;</p>
<p>I have been through all of it, so I know when I look to young people, women or men, it's not easy, especially for women, so whenever I can help, I help because I know what it takes and that you can suffer a lot from injustice, those people need somebody to guide them and help them, so I put it in the back of my mind whenever I can help somebody or support them.</p>
<p>I don't say that I know it all, nobody knows it all, but at least I have a career and a life experience that allows me to be able to be a good adviser, to support, to guide, to motivate, I'm passionate about this, I'm passionate about three things people, culture and business.&nbsp;</p>
<p><strong>Have you seen in your 30-year career difference a stride that we've made as women in business?</strong></p>
<p>Of course, I'm not generalizing but it is my understanding that now it has become the trend to push women into leadership positions, so, this is good, but are we doing it right? I don't think so, because what happens now is that men don&rsquo;t find jobs in leadership positions&mdash;they are completely excluded from the same position, if two CVs arrive, one from a woman and one from a man, they&rsquo;re no longer looking at the skills; they&rsquo;re looking at the gender. This is not the equality we were asking for. We were asking for people not to look at gender, but to have skills on both CVs and then take the best in class.</p>
<p>But what&rsquo;s happening now is different. For leadership roles, we have a quota to fill at the executive level, so we&rsquo;re choosing women. But is this woman always the most skilled? Sometimes, no. And what we&rsquo;re creating is a situation where the person is in a decision-making position but lacks the skills to take on such a role. She&rsquo;s not raising her hand to say, 'I would like this or that.'</p>
<p>What it creates is a snowball effect where any woman approaching her feels threatened. It&rsquo;s biased, but I am confident we will reach a balance because every transformation needs a trial period to accompany this shift. We are at the other extreme right now.</p>
<p>I&rsquo;m not generalizing or saying all women in leadership positions aren&rsquo;t worth it&mdash;not at all! Especially here in the Middle East, in Egypt, I see brilliant women, and when I speak to them, I&rsquo;m like, &lsquo;Wow!&rsquo; You feel proud. So, I&rsquo;m not generalizing, but from a worldwide perspective, this is the situation. Sometimes, you have women in leadership because they come from wealthy families, or for other reasons, and this isn&rsquo;t helping the equation. We&rsquo;re in a transition period; we&rsquo;re not there yet, but we&rsquo;re moving in the right direction. We need to be vigilant because we&rsquo;re now making men suffer, which is the opposite of what we actually intended.</p>

"I, Robot" Director Claims That Elon Musk Is Copying His Designs

<p>Google announced that starting from the 1st of May, 2025, all AdSense, AdSense for YouTube, AdMob, and Ad Manager payouts in Egypt will be made in Egyptian Pounds instead of&nbsp;US Dollars.&nbsp;</p>
<p>This change&nbsp;is part of Google's initiative to transition all payments worldwide into local currencies.</p>
<p>On the 1st of April, a new payment account will be created for all AdSense, Adsense for YouTube, AdMob, and Ad Manager users, and they may need to link a bank account that accepts local currency to it.&nbsp;</p>
<p>It's worth mentioning that the old payment account in US Dollars will be deactivated in April 2025, however, users will still be able to access it from their payment page to view past activities.</p>

<p>Meta revealed improvements to its virtual reality headset and Ray-Ban smart glasses in an effort to showcase its artificial intelligence capabilities and the company&rsquo;s slew of new hardware products.</p>
<p>Meta CEO, Mark Zuckerberg also showcased Orion, Meta's first real AR glasses, which he called &ldquo;the most advanced glasses the world has ever seen&rdquo;.</p>

<p>The card game creator filed a lawsuit in Texas court claiming that SpaceX has been using the company's land as its own for at least the last six months.&nbsp;</p>
<p>According to the lawsuit, SpaceX, which had already purchased other nearby lands, had placed building materials such as gravel, and other debris on the property without obtaining authorization.</p>
<p>it's worth mentioning that Cards Against Humanity purchased the land mentioned in the lawsuit back in 2017&nbsp;as part of a stunt to prevent President Donald Trump's border wall from being built in the area, and the company said that they purchased the land after 150,000 subscribers had each contributed $15 towards the Cards Against Humanity Saves America campaign.&nbsp;</p>

<p>When Rowling was asked on X by a fan if she would consider writing a space odyssey, she replied, "There are three different books I could do after&nbsp;Strike, all of which I&rsquo;ve started because I&rsquo;m a deranged workaholic, the one I&rsquo;m planning to finish first is futuristic, but not a space odyssey, sorry. Definitely earthbound".&nbsp;</p>

<p>Brazil has blocked access to Elon Musk's social media platform X, after missing a deadline imposed by Supreme Court Justice Alexandre de Moraes to name a legal representative for the company in Brazil.&nbsp;</p>
<p>The feud between Musk and de Moraes started last April when the Supreme Court judge ordered&nbsp;the suspension of dozens of X accounts for allegedly spreading disinformation.</p>
<p>Last Wednesday&nbsp;De Moraes threatened Musk that X would be blocked in Brazil if the company didn't comply&nbsp;with his order to name a representative in Brazil within 24 hours since X&nbsp;hasn't had a representative in the country since earlier this month&nbsp;</p>

<p>X didn't comply with the order, and Musk wrote on his X account "Free speech is the bedrock of democracy and an unelected pseudo-judge in Brazil is destroying it for political purposes".&nbsp;</p>
<p>Brazil blocked X after failing to comply with the Supreme Court Justice's order within the deadline,&nbsp;De Moraes also said that the platform will stay suspended until it complies with his orders, and also set a daily fine of 50,000 reais ($8,900) for people or companies using VPNs to access it.&nbsp;</p>

<p>Pavel Durov, the creator and CEO of the messaging app Telegram, was detained on Saturday night at the Bourget airport south of Paris.&nbsp;<br />According to TF1 and BFM, the police believed that the absence of moderators on Telegram allowed illegal conduct to go unchecked, and this was the main focus of the investigation.</p>
<p>With about one billion users, Telegram is especially popular in Russia, Ukraine, and other areas. It is considered one of the biggest social media platforms at the moment such as Facebook, YouTube, WhatsApp, Instagram, and TikTok.</p>
<p>It's worth mentioning that Durov, and his brother launched Telegram in 2013.</p>
