Never stop dreaming. In 2023, The Ghetto Kids participated in Britain&rsquo;s Got Talent, dancing to &ldquo;Waka Waka&rdquo; by Shakira, and won the Golden Buzzer. In 2026, they returned, but this time alongside their idol Shakira, dancing with her in the official video for the World Cup song &ldquo;Dai Dai.&rdquo; Additionally, the Ghetto Kids are preparing for the performance of a lifetime, showing off their moves alongside the Colombian superstar at the World Cup Final halftime show on 19 July 2026.
NileFM spoke exclusively with Ghetto Kids founder Dauda Kavuma about their dream coming true, what&rsquo;s coming next, and the inspiring journey behind the group.

The Ghetto Kids, formerly known as Triplets Ghetto Kids, are an internationally acclaimed music and dance group from the Katwe slums in Kampala, Uganda. Founded in 2014 by dance teacher Dauda Kavuma, the group is composed of orphaned and vulnerable children who use the performing arts to improve their lives and fund their education.
Take us back to the beginning. How did the idea for Ghetto Kids start, and how many children are currently part of the group? We started in 2014. Ghetto Kids is an NGO inspired by Triple S. The group comprises orphaned, vulnerable, and less privileged children. We all live under one roof at our foundation home. There are currently 60 children aged between three and 18. We use music and drama to build a better life by providing education, shelter, food, healthcare, and clothing.

After your video asking Shakira to perform with you went viral, how did you receive the news that she had accepted? What was your reaction? We felt so excited. It was unbelievable; we genuinely did not see it coming. One of the kids, Akram, saw the update on Instagram and immediately showed it to the others. They were so happy, jumping up and down and crying tears of pure joy.

Your dance videos consistently impress millions of viewers. On average, how long does it take to create and perfect a dance routine before filming? Usually, it does not take much time at all. Once we receive a song, either I or our social media manager will play it for the kids. They listen, and within a few minutes, everyone comes up with their own dance moves. We do not typically teach them rigid choreography; they create the movements themselves. Sometimes we do not even rehearse; we just go on set and shoot organically.

After &ldquo;Dai Dai&rdquo; became a huge success, you started creating dance videos inspired by different countries and cultures. What were the biggest challenges in adapting to so many different dance styles? There were not really any major challenges. We adapt quite easily. We have produced videos inspired by various international tracks, like "ODG" by a Nigerian artist, and others. The process has always been incredibly smooth for us.
From receiving the Golden Buzzer on Britain&rsquo;s Got Talent to performing on one of the world&rsquo;s biggest stages, the FIFA World Cup, how has this incredible journey shaped you both personally and professionally? I feel immensely blessed to have performed to &ldquo;Waka Waka,&rdquo; and to now transition from that into the official World Cup. It feels like a blessing from God. Professionally, our previous appearance was a competitive performance, but now we get to perform on global stages without being judged. We simply express who we are.
With so many children living, training, and performing together, how do you maintain teamwork and harmony? And when planning a new video, how do you decide which ideas to bring to life? Most of the time, we collaborate directly with the children, which is exactly how we maintain that harmony. We do not just make decisions on our own; we discuss ideas, listen to their thoughts, and create something meaningful together. That shared teamwork is what keeps us moving forward.
When planning a video, our ultimate focus is on capturing happiness and joy. We always aim for something organic and natural because we never want it to feel forced or fake.

We can already see many opportunities and doors opening. We hope to work with various international artists and perhaps even join Shakira on tour someday. We would love to collaborate more extensively with her, because the World Cup stage alone cannot showcase the full depth of our dance style. On tour, we could express so much more.
We also hope to build a dedicated rehabilitation and education centre to further support the children.

For me, it wasn't one specific moment. It was more about listening to my heart and exploring different styles of music until I found the one that truly resonated with me. I was searching for a sound that could reflect my emotions, energy, and personality. Over time, I discovered melodic techno, and everything simply clicked. The combination of powerful rhythms, deep melodies, and emotional storytelling felt completely natural to me. That's when I realised I had found my musical home. Melodic techno inspires me, allows me to express myself freely, and gives me the opportunity to take listeners on an emotional journey. It wasn't a sudden decision; it was a path that led me to my true calling. Breaking through in the electronic music industry comes with its challenges. As a female artist, what obstacles did you face early on, and how did you overcome them? One of the biggest challenges was that not everyone took female DJs seriously. Very often, people would first see you as an image rather than as an artist or musician. In those moments, it can be difficult because there is often more pressure, more criticism, and a greater need to prove yourself. I felt that I had to work harder to demonstrate my skills, musical knowledge, and professionalism in order to be recognised for what I do rather than how I look. However, instead of letting that discourage me, I used it as motivation. I focused on improving my craft, developing my own sound, and building genuine connections with people through music. Today, I'm proud to be part of a growing generation of female artists who are proving that talent, dedication, and passion are what truly matter behind the decks.

What is your most cherished memory or standout experience from your time visiting the country? One of the things I love most about Egypt is its incredible energy and passion for electronic music. The people there truly know how to party, and the electronic music scene is full of talented DJs, producers, and music lovers. Every time I visited, I could feel how deeply connected people are to music and how much they appreciate the experience of dancing together. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to fully explore Egypt's cultural landmarks and historical sites yet. Most of my trips were focused on events, and my schedule was usually very tight. I would arrive for a performance and then head straight back to the airport. However, Egypt remains one of the countries I would love to discover more deeply in the future. I'm also very excited about an upcoming collaboration with Egyptian artist Seidy. Our track, "Wake Up," will be released on 26 July via Termeni Records. I'm incredibly proud to be part of this collaboration, as it represents a beautiful connection between artists from different countries who share the same passion for music. Projects like this remind me that music truly has no borders.

What made that night so unique? Yes, without a doubt, one of the most memorable moments of my career was my first tour in India in 2024. I performed at a venue called RAEETH in Goa, India, and it was both the most exciting and the most emotional performance I had experienced at that point in my journey. I was nervous before stepping on stage, but the way the crowd welcomed me was incredible. The energy they gave back, the way they danced, smiled, and connected with the music is something I will never forget. It felt like we were all sharing the same moment and speaking the same language through music. That night was special because it reminded me why I chose this path. The connection between an artist and the audience is something truly magical, and I felt it more strongly than ever during that set. In many ways, that performance became a turning point for me. After that show, I started building my own community in India, and I'm incredibly grateful for all the love and support I continue to receive there. India will always hold a very special place in my heart. Having played to crowds across the globe, how do you bridge the gap between different cultures, and how do these global travels influence the music you select? To be honest, I never prepare my sets in advance. One of the things I love most about DJing is the freedom to improvise and connect with the crowd in real time. You never truly know what the audience wants until you're standing in front of them. Every crowd has a different energy, mood, and musical preference. What works perfectly in one country might be completely different in another. I've learned through my travels that different cultures often respond to different tempos, grooves, and BPM ranges. Some crowds love deeper and more melodic moments, while others want higher energy and faster rhythms. That's what makes performing around the world so exciting. I think that's the beauty of electronic music: no matter where you are in the world, music creates a universal connection between people. As NileFM's featured DJ of the Week, what can listeners expect from the exclusive set you have prepared for us? First of all, thank you for the opportunity to be your guest on NileFM. It is a great honour for me to be featured as your DJ of the Week and to have the chance to share my music, as well as express myself both as a DJ and a producer. For this exclusive NileFM set, I've prepared a special melodic techno journey filled with powerful melodies, emotional moments, and tracks that I truly believe will not leave anyone indifferent. Listeners can expect a carefully selected blend of energy, atmosphere, and storytelling through music. I'm also excited to include one of my own productions, "ROBO", a collaboration with talented Ukrainian artist Avrix. For anyone discovering your music for the first time, how would you define your signature style? My signature style is probably best described as an unpredictable twist. People often expect something completely different when they first see me. My friends always joke that I'm too sweet, too cute to play such powerful electronic music. But that's exactly what I love about it. I enjoy surprising people. Beneath the soft image is a deep passion for strong melodies, hypnotic rhythms, and powerful energy. When I play, I completely surrender to the music. I stop thinking and simply follow the feeling. I hope that the audience does the same, forgetting about everything else and getting lost in the journey with me. For me, electronic music is freedom, emotion, and connection. That's the experience I try to create every time I step behind the decks. What crucial piece of advice would you offer to inspiring young female artists and producers looking to break into the industry today? My advice would be simple: if you truly feel that calling inside of you, just start. Don't wait for the perfect moment, and don't look for shortcuts. The music industry is not an easy path. It's a very competitive and challenging business, and you have to be prepared for rejection. There will be moments when people say no, when opportunities don't work out, and when progress feels slower than you hoped. But never give up. Every setback is a lesson, and every challenge helps you grow stronger. Keep improving your skills, keep learning, and keep investing in your craft. At the same time, don't become so focused on the destination that you forget to enjoy the journey. Some of the most beautiful moments happen while you're still building your career and discovering who you are as an artist. Stay patient, stay focused, trust yourself, and keep moving forward. India has become a very special place for me, and I always love coming back because of the amazing energy, culture, and connection I have with the audience there. And of course, I would absolutely love to return to Egypt with my own show in the future. Egypt holds a special place in my heart, and it would mean a lot to bring my music back there and share that experience with the incredible Egyptian crowd once again. The future is looking very exciting, and I'm grateful for every opportunity to continue growing, travelling, and sharing my music with people around the world. On the music side, my upcoming solo release, "Distraction," will be released on 10 July via Area Verde. It's a track I'm very proud of, and I can't wait for people to hear it. Take us behind the scenes of creating your sets. What&rsquo;s your process from the initial track selection right through to the final performance?
I feel like a set is a journey, not just music. You have to express that journey through the tracks you choose.

It's all about passion. I always want more and I'm constantly looking for ways to improve and evolve.
What are some of the biggest challenges you&rsquo;ve faced as a DJ, and how have they shaped you?
One of the biggest challenges was when a lot of people told me a particular set wouldn't get people dancing. In the end, it did, and that taught me to trust my instincts and believe in my vision.
This isn't your first time as NileFM's DJ of the Week! What surprises or special treats can listeners expect from you this time around?
This time is different because I'm exploring a new genre. I was playing something completely different when I started out, so I'm really excited to see how listeners respond to this set.

What advice would you give to aspiring DJs who are just starting out on their journey?
I'd say it's 50% talent and 50% track selection and musical instinct. Practise as much as you can, put your energy into it and learn how to read the crowd. You need to know when people want to sing along, when they need strong melodies and when they want something different. Most importantly, always smile and go with the vibe.
Was there a specific set, event or crowd reaction that made you think, "This is exactly where I&rsquo;m meant to be"?
Yes, my most recent set. The crowd's reaction reminded me exactly why I love doing this.
Electronic music is constantly evolving. How do you stay creative and keep your sound fresh whilst staying true to your identity as an artist?
It's all driven by passion. I always try to be different and bring something unique to every set.
If you could describe your musical journey in just three tracks, which songs would you choose and why?
Honestly, I couldn't narrow it down to just three tracks. My musical journey is made up of so many songs, each representing a different stage of my growth as an artist.

Whilst he first captured international attention in the acclaimed feature &lsquo;You Will Die at Twenty&rsquo;, it is his raw, powerful portrayal of the rebel slave Awad in Mohamed Diab's latest masterpiece that has truly cemented his place in the heart of Egyptian cinema.
Starring alongside global icon Mohamed Ramadan, Shehata delivers a performance of immense psychological and physical depth, capturing a spirit of resilient defiance that has captivated audiences and critics alike.
Mustafa Shehata spoke to NileFM to go behind the scenes of &lsquo;Asad&rsquo;, discussing how he navigated the brutal challenges of the shoot, what he learned from working with Mohamed Diab, and how this landmark role is shaping his Hollywood ambitions.
Tell us more about your beginnings, how did a Sudanese young man with Egyptian roots find his way into acting and cinema? At the beginning, my friends and I used to create small sketches and upload them on Facebook. They got good engagement. Later, I saw a casting call for the film &lsquo;You Will Die at Twenty&rsquo;. A friend of mine encouraged me to audition, and that&rsquo;s how it all started.

Your journey between Sudanese and Egyptian cinema is unique. What are the main differences you noticed between both industries? Egyptian cinema has a long-established legacy and is very structured. In Sudan, there was almost no real cinema around 20 years ago compared to today. Now it has become much stronger, especially after &lsquo;Goodbye Julia&rsquo;. Although it started later, it is developing with steady steps and high professionalism, whether in &lsquo;You Will Die at Twenty&rsquo; or &lsquo;Goodbye Julia&rsquo;. Most of the crew I worked with were Egyptian, which also influenced the experience.

When you were offered a role in a film directed by international filmmaker Mohamed Diab and starring Mohamed Ramadan, what excited you the most about the project? Both names are very important. The moment I heard them, I knew it would be a strong film. I was also drawn to the character Awad, a young, reckless guy. I felt there were many layers I could explore and highlight, especially with such a strong cast and production team behind the film.
Tell us about the most difficult scene you filmed and how you handled that challenge as an actor. There were many difficult scenes, both physically and psychologically. One of the hardest was a scene in Fayoum where a character tells Habashi, The Prince wants you today. The temperature was around five degrees, and we weren&rsquo;t wearing heavy clothes due to the character&rsquo;s condition. Speaking dialogue in that cold was extremely difficult. There were also intense scenes involving people being handcuffed and placed in tight cages. At some point, it felt like we were truly living those moments, and I felt like I was one of them.
What was the atmosphere like behind the scenes, and what did you learn from director Mohamed Diab and star Mohamed Ramadan? The atmosphere was very positive. Mohamed Ramadan brought great energy to the set, he was open, supportive, and always willing to listen and share advice. I learned from him how to be a star while staying grounded and maintaining a good relationship with people so they love you. Mohamed Diab gave us precise direction and valuable acting guidance. I learned a lot from both of them.

Your role in &lsquo;You Will Die at Twenty&rsquo; was a major breakthrough. How did it change your view of acting and your choice of roles afterward? It was a turning point for me, and I feel very lucky to have been part of it because it opened a window for Sudanese cinema to the world. It completely changed my understanding of acting. Before that, I didn&rsquo;t fully understand cinematic performance and had limited experience. The film placed me inside the industry and reshaped my perspective.
What opportunities do you see for collaboration between Egyptian and Sudanese cinema in the future? Would you like to take part in joint productions? There is currently a Sudanese-Egyptian film being made called &lsquo;Blue Card&rsquo;. I believe that in the future, more Sudanese films produced in Egypt will find strong audiences and success.
You will soon appear alongside superstar Yousra in the film &lsquo;Banat Faten&rsquo;. Can you tell us more about your role and working with her? The film is very special, and I hope audiences will see the effort we put into it. Yousra is amazing in every way, calm, clear, and incredibly inspiring. I deeply admire her. We still stay in contact, and I often consult her for advice even after filming. She is truly a legend in acting. The atmosphere was beautiful on set, also featuring Bassem Samra and Huda El Mufti.

After your journey from Sudan to international cinema and then Egyptian cinema, what is the biggest dream you are still chasing? It is still a very big dream. I feel my journey is just beginning. I want to work in Hollywood one day and be part of major Arab productions that reach global standards, so strong that we no longer need to reference Western films. I believe the Middle East will become a major global cinematic force, watched and appreciated by both Arab and international audiences.

What began as a fascination in 2015 soon developed into a passion, shaping a DJ whose sets are driven by emotion, atmosphere, and storytelling. Today, Thursday, 4 June 2026, Omar Yasser joins NileFM as DJ of the Week.
Inspired by progressive house pioneers and the emotions hidden within melodies, Omar creates immersive musical journeys influenced by both music and nature. Whether gazing at the sea or standing in a quiet open space, he finds inspiration in the sounds and textures around him, bringing a sense of authenticity to his music.
NileFM sits down with Omar to discuss his journey into electronic music, the artists who inspire him, his most meaningful collaboration, and the challenges of helping progressive and organic house music gain a wider audience in Egypt.
Tell us about the start of your journey as a DJ. What first drew you to music and the world of DJing? I got my start back in 2015. For me, it wasn&rsquo;t just about liking music. It was about realizing how much power a track has over a room. I fell hard for progressive house because of how hypnotic it is. I became obsessed with the idea of mixing more than two tracks so smoothly that the crowd couldn't even tell where one ended and the next began. I wanted to be the guy controlling that energy, not just standing in the crowd. So, I bought some gear, started practicing, and honestly, I haven&rsquo;t looked back.&nbsp;

What inspires you to explore deeper feelings and ideas through your tracks? I&rsquo;ve just never been interested in playing random, high-energy club tracks for two hours straight. To me, a good set needs to feel like a story with actual ups and downs. I&rsquo;ve always been drawn to the deeper, more melancholic side of electronic music from guys like Alex O'rion or Hernan Cattaneo. It&rsquo;s about creating a specific mood because music can capture feelings that you can't really put into words. Nature appears to be a recurring influence in your work. How do you translate natural elements and emotions into sound? There&rsquo;s a weirdly strong connection between huge open spaces and the wide, atmospheric sound of progressive or organic house. Whenever I&rsquo;m out in nature, whether it's looking at the sea or standing in a quiet space. It changes how I listen to sound. I try to bring those exact textures into my music, pads that feel like the wind, or heavy, grounded percussion that feels like the earth. It gives the music a lot of breathing room and makes it feel real, rather than just purely digital. You&rsquo;ve worked with a number of artists and DJs over the years. Is there one collaboration that stands out as particularly memorable, and what made it special? My remix of Mike Turing's "Good Looking" is easily one of the best collaborations I've ever done. This one hits different because the music perfectly mirrors exactly what I was going through in my life at the time. Every career comes with challenges. What have been some of the biggest obstacles you've faced as a DJ, and how did you overcome them? My biggest obstacle has been pioneering a niche music movement in a market that wasn't ready for it. Trying to spread Progressive and Organic House in Egypt meant constantly running into roadblocks, from finding venues willing to take a risk to changing audience perceptions. I had to look at those challenges not as walls, but as strategic hurdles. Overcoming them required a mix of persistence, community-building, and creative problem-solving, which really shaped my ability to lead initiatives when the odds are stacked against me.' You were recently selected as NileFM&rsquo;s DJ of the Week. What can listeners expect from your special set, and are there any surprises in store? First, it's a pleasure to be selected as your DJ of the week. Listeners can expect a carefully mixed and crafted journey bridging the gap between Organic and Progressive House . It's a set built on storytelling, and I wanted to bring this deeply emotional energy to the airwaves, giving the NileFM audience that taste.

Getting invited to do a guest mix for international platforms like Subcode was huge, but my absolute favorite memory has to be recording a one-hour set right in the middle of the South Sinai desert near Dahab. Playing deep, progressive tracks surrounded by nothing but massive mountains under the night sky was completely surreal. There was no club lighting or massive sound system, just raw nature and the music. It completely reminded me why I fell in love with doing this in the first place. What&rsquo;s next for you? Are there any upcoming projects, releases, or ambitions that you're particularly excited about? I&rsquo;m focusing heavily on both global reach and local community impact. On the production and performance side, I&rsquo;m currently working on an upcoming guest mix for Proton, which is a massive milestone for pushing my sound to the international progressive house community. Locally, I&rsquo;m in discussions with Al Madina Arts to launch a series of workshops and music sessions. The goal is to mentor and inspire the next generation of young talent here in Egypt, introducing them to top-tier electronic sounds and giving them the tools to explore genres like progressive and organic house. Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring DJs who are trying to develop their own sound and build a career in the industry? Right now, there&rsquo;s a global trend where it feels like everyone is chasing the same commercial sound just to get quick wins or social media numbers. But my advice to this next generation of producers is simple: stop riding the wave and start creating your own. Sticking to your artistic vision means you will face an uphill battle and a lot of obstacles, especially in a market that pushes the mainstream. But blending your own sounds and carving out a unique identity is the only way to build something that lasts. True artists don't follow the flow; they create a new one.

Fulltone reflected on his early beginnings, recalling a pivotal moment around 2004&ndash;2005 when he discovered live music through a local band called Four Sticks, which performed at El Sawy Culturewheel in Zamalek. The experience left a lasting impression and inspired him to pick up the guitar.
At the time, he was studying architecture at the Faculty of Fine Arts, where he unexpectedly met Sary Hany, a musician he had seen perform. Their connection soon evolved into friendship and collaboration.
&ldquo;It was a full-circle moment,&rdquo; he recalled, explaining how he later joined the same band that first inspired him to play music. Performing in front of large crowds at a young age helped him overcome stage fright and marked the beginning of his journey into production and electronic music.
He added that architecture and music share a deep connection in his mind, describing both as a blend of art and science, where creativity combines with structure, proportion, and discipline.
Creative Process and Inspiration
Balancing architecture and music, Fulltone explained how both fields influence each other. While architecture taught him discipline and adaptability under tight deadlines, music allowed him to explore different genres and expand his artistic vocabulary.
&ldquo;I study everything I work with,&rdquo; he said, noting that each project pushes him to research new styles, from jazz and orchestration to Bedouin rhythms, in order to understand instruments, scales, tempo, and structure.
Describing his project Fulltone as a personal creative space, he said he often experiments freely until ideas naturally evolve into recordings. He avoids forcing creativity, preferring to let ideas emerge organically.
On Creativity and Process
Discussing his workflow, he explained that he rarely works with strict briefs, as he prefers to create first and decide later where the music fits. If one approach doesn&rsquo;t work, he switches instruments or revisits the idea later.
He likened inspiration to fishing, referencing Sting&rsquo;s philosophy that creativity cannot be forced: &ldquo;You throw the line and wait. It&rsquo;s about patience.&rdquo;
AI in Music Production
Fulltone also spoke about experimenting with AI tools in music production, revealing that he recently completed a fresh track that incorporates AI-processed vocals.
&ldquo;I sing the lyrics myself, then use AI tools to transform my voice based on prompts,&rdquo; he explained. While he acknowledged that results vary, he uses the output creatively, chopping and reshaping vocal samples to build new textures.

Throughout his career, Fulltone has collaborated with international artists such as Parallels and Madmotormiquel, and released music on respected labels including All Day I Dream, known for its emotive and melodic soundscapes.
He shared that his connection with the label began through gradual exposure after his music circulated among DJs, eventually leading to recognition and opportunities to perform at international events.

Fulltone explained that live performances require careful planning, especially regarding duration and logistics. While he can perform live sets for up to 90 minutes, he often combines live performance with DJing depending on the event.

Looking to the future, Fulltone expressed interest in releasing a conceptual album structured in chapters, inspired by vinyl limitations and storytelling formats.

Cape Verde goalkeeper Vozinha has emerged as one of the standout stories of the FIFA World Cup 2026 after producing a series of crucial saves in his side's goalless draw against Spain.
The 40-year-old veteran was named &lsquo;Player of the Match&rsquo; following a performance that frustrated one of the tournament favourites and helped Cape Verde secure one of the biggest results in the nation's football history.
But beyond the saves and accolades lies a story of perseverance, family and a football journey that began much later than most.
A Name Inspired by a World Cup Winner
Born Josimar Dias, the goalkeeper is known throughout football simply as Vozinha. His first name has its roots in one of football's most iconic tournaments. Inspired by Argentina striker Jorge Valdano's performances during the 1986 World Cup, Vozinha's father hoped to name his newborn son after the player. Registry officials, however, were unconvinced, leading to a compromise and the name Josimar.
"In the football world, I'm known as Vozinha. But I want to give a shout-out to Jorge Valdano and Josimar, the inspirations behind my name," he told FIFA after the match.
Four decades later, the boy whose name was inspired by a World Cup has become part of the tournament's story himself.
A Career That Started Late
Professional football was not always part of Vozinha's plan. Unlike many international goalkeepers who progress through academies from childhood, his professional career did not begin until he was 25.
"I started playing professional football when I was 25 years old in 2012. It was very late for a person in my position," he said.
Even after establishing himself for club and country, there were moments when he questioned whether his international career should continue.
"I thought about leaving the national team, but I decided to carry on because of this dream."
That dream eventually brought him to football's biggest stage.

The Tears Behind the Smile

Is AI Replacing Creativity or Supercharging It? How AI Tools Are Changing Music, Art, and Everyday Life

Egypt&rsquo;s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, has announced the launch of a nationwide medical and ambulance plan for Eid al-Fitr 2026, aimed at ensuring readiness across the health system during the holiday period.
The ministry said more than 700 government hospitals have increased emergency preparedness, with emergency departments and operating theatres functioning around the clock as travel and public gatherings rise.
Ambulance Services and Rapid Response
The plan includes enhanced deployment by the Egyptian Ambulance Authority, with around 3,000 ambulances operating across governorates and an additional 1,200 vehicles positioned at key locations.
Ambulances have been stationed near main roads, public squares, mosques, Eid prayer areas, parks, and other gathering points. Twenty-seven emergency rooms are linked to a central control centre to enable real-time monitoring and dispatch, while regional officials oversee high-traffic areas.

Focus on Major Roads
Authorities say priority has been given to major routes, including the coastal road between Damietta and Matrouh, the Cairo-Alexandria desert road, the agricultural road, as well as routes in South Sinai, the Red Sea, and Upper Egypt.
More than 600 fixed and mobile ambulance points have been deployed along these roads to allow rapid response to accidents.
Hospital Preparedness
Hospitals have also increased capacity in emergency and intensive care units. Around 250 facilities have been designated as primary referral centres on highways, supported by 54 rapid response teams for large-scale incidents.
Blood banks have been supplied with an additional 40,000 units, and medical stocks have been reinforced to meet potential demand.
Public Health Measures
The preventive medicine sector has intensified inspections of more than 35,000 food outlets, including sweet shops, restaurants, hotels, parks, and public transport hubs.
Around 1,200 inspection teams have been deployed to monitor compliance with health and safety standards.
Monitoring and Public Guidance

The ministry has also urged the public to follow health guidelines, with the hotline 137 available for medical enquiries and emergency assistance throughout the Eid holiday.

Nesma Mostafa, Head of MENA Higher Education Insights and Student Mobility at the British Council, joined Rob and Sally on &ldquo;The Big Fast&rdquo; this Tuesday to discuss the evolving landscape of higher education in Egypt and the MENA region. Airing from 8 to 10 AM, the conversation explored international collaboration, student mobility, and the benefits of transnational education for learners seeking global opportunities without leaving home.
Defining Herself as an Educator
Nesma shared her personal perspective on her role: &ldquo;So I&rsquo;m at the British Council, but how I define myself is as an educator, an education researcher. I&rsquo;ve been working in higher education for 15 years, which technically means research around higher education opportunities within the region, with the aim of informing the UK sector of these opportunities and then bridging, making connections, and building these relationships between the UK, Egypt, and beyond.&rdquo;
When asked why education is such a passion, she said, &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve always been a lifelong learner. Education is at the core of development, supporting people to find what they&rsquo;re meant to do and helping nations meet their goals. Knowledge is power, regardless of where it comes from.&rdquo;
What is Transnational Education?
The discussion then turned to transnational education (TNE). Nesma explained: &ldquo;Transnational education is when a university in one country offers a programme or a degree in another country, physically moving to meet students where they are. Instead of Egyptian students travelling to get a degree in the UK, the UK institution comes to Egypt and delivers that in-country through different models.&rdquo;
She highlighted the accessibility of this model: &ldquo;This increases access to international education for students who can&rsquo;t travel for personal, family, or financial reasons. You get the benefits of an international degree without ever having to leave home.&rdquo;
Models of Transnational Education
On international branch campuses: &ldquo;This is one of the independent models of transnational education where a university expands to a new country, offering the same programmes and teaching methods, and bringing its expertise into a new context. Students graduate with one international degree that is very similar to what they would receive if they studied abroad.&rdquo;
On joint degrees: &ldquo;Joint degrees are when two universities come together to develop a programme. You have international expertise alongside local knowledge, creating something relevant to students and their context. It&rsquo;s co-created, combining the strengths of both institutions into one degree accredited by both.&rdquo;
On digital learning: &ldquo;This could be fully online learning, where you&rsquo;re in Egypt studying at a university abroad, which is still transnational education. There are also blended models combining online and face-to-face learning, usually involving a local partner and an international partner. The international side may develop the virtual learning environment and resources, while local expertise ensures the content is contextualised. Exams, for example, may take place in Egypt, even if systems are hosted abroad.&rdquo;
Why Egypt is a Key Destination
Egypt has become the fourth-largest host country globally for UK transnational education programmes, with around 38,000 students enrolled. Nesma explained the appeal: &ldquo;Egypt has 3.8 million students in higher education, expected to grow to 5 million by 2030. There&rsquo;s strong demand, and universities in Egypt are keen to partner with international counterparts. Students trust UK institutions, and government strategies highlight internationalisation as a priority.&rdquo;
The Benefits for Students
The advantages extend beyond studying locally. Nesma highlighted global recognition and employability: &ldquo;You get a degree that can be used anywhere in the world without needing revalidation. Students also develop critical thinking, leadership, communication, and intercultural skills that are highly valued by employers.&rdquo;
She also emphasised the British Council&rsquo;s role: &ldquo;We work with governments, institutions, and learners. We help ensure supportive regulations, bring stakeholders together through networking, and guide students on accessing opportunities. Everything we do is research-driven to continuously improve partnerships.&rdquo;
Regional Collaboration through Deep Dialogues
Nesma discussed the recent regional Deep Dialogue in Cairo: &ldquo;Participants from 11 countries came together to learn from different models of transnational education. Mature ecosystems like Egypt shared insights with countries still developing their frameworks. We discussed regulation, quality assurance, and engaged directly with students to understand their experiences.&rdquo;
She added, &ldquo;These dialogues build a community of practice. Connections continue beyond the event, creating sustainable networks that support education across the region.&rdquo;

Nesma concluded with a forward-looking perspective: &ldquo;Successful models in more developed systems can help guide countries in earlier stages. At its core, this is about improving education, expanding opportunities, and empowering students to reach their potential while contributing to society. Egypt’s Health Minister Hails Magdi Yacoub Foundation for Life-Saving Cardiac Work

Egypt&rsquo;s General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR) has granted full and preliminary accreditation to 32 health facilities across the country, according to decisions issued by the Supreme Committee for the Accreditation of Health Facilities.
The move is part of efforts to strengthen quality and patient safety standards in line with internationally recognised benchmarks set by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua).
Officials say the accreditations aim to improve the efficiency of healthcare institutions and prepare them for integration into Egypt&rsquo;s Universal Health Insurance system, which seeks to expand access to safe and high-quality medical services nationwide.
As part of preparations for the system&rsquo;s second phase, Minya Governorate is expected to be among the first areas to implement the programme. The Supreme Committee renewed preliminary accreditation for Minya Oncology Center and granted preliminary accreditation to several hospitals in the governorate, including Samalut Oncology Hospital, El Adwa Central Hospital and Mallawi Liver and Gastroenterology Hospital.
The General Military Hospital in Alexandria, affiliated with the Armed Forces Medical Services, also received preliminary accreditation in accordance with GAHAR standards, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen quality and patient safety in healthcare delivery.
Officials say the latest accreditations represent another step in Egypt&rsquo;s broader strategy to standardise healthcare services, improve patient outcomes and prepare facilities for nationwide implementation of the Universal Health Insurance system.
