Family Business is an Egyptian comedy built around a simple but effective idea. It uses mistaken identities and class differences to create a series of comic situations inside a wealthy household. The film takes a familiar premise and places it within a social setting that naturally lends itself to humour, misunderstandings, and constant tension between appearance and reality.
At its core, the story is driven by how ordinary people adapt when faced with financial pressure, and how those decisions spiral once deception becomes part of daily life. By placing the action almost entirely within a single household, the film relies on character interaction and timing rather than complex plotting, allowing small lies and hidden identities to escalate into larger comic situations.&nbsp;
Plot The film follows a poor family struggling to make ends meet. After turning to petty theft, the father decides to stop following a close call with the law. With few options left, the family comes up with an unusual plan.
Each member secretly takes a job in the home of a rich family while pretending not to know one another. This leads to constant misunderstandings as they try to keep their true relationships hidden.
As the story develops, the house becomes the main setting for confusion and comedy. The film also uses this setup to show the gap between rich and poor, although in a light and simple way.
Cast The film brings together Mohamed Saad, Ghada Adel, Donia Sami, Heidy Karam, Ahmed El Rafei, Mahmoud Abdel Moghni, and Osama El Hady.
Mohamed Saad leads the comedy with his familiar style. Ghada Adel offers a calmer and more grounded performance. The rest of the cast support the film well, especially in group scenes where timing is important.
Script and Direction The film is directed by Wael Ehsan. It is built around one main idea, which is used to create different comic situations throughout the story.

The countdown has begun and Egyptians have been holding their breath for a chance to see the Pharaohs at the 2026 World Cup. After their last appearance in 2018, the Egypt national team is entering a decisive phase under head coach Hossam Hassan and team director Ibrahim Hassan.
With new players joining the squad, friendlies against leading international sides planned, and expectations rising among fans, the Pharaohs are working to build a team capable of competing on the global stage.
In an exclusive interview with Mohamed Morad on NileFM, the media coordinator of the Egypt national football team takes us behind the scenes of the preparations for the upcoming training camp, the possibility of dual-nationality players joining, and how the team is handling media pressure and rumours. He also reflects on recent results against Saudi Arabia and Spain, the importance of the upcoming friendly with Brazil, and the role of captain Mohamed Salah as Egypt prepares for its World Cup campaign.
When will the final squad list be announced?
The technical staff, led by head coach Hossam Hassan, is monitoring players across all clubs, and the evidence is that new players join the national team at every camp. The latest additions were Islam Issa, Haissem Hassan, Mohamed Alaa, the El Gouna goalkeeper, and Tarek Alaa of Zamalek. There is also a camp at the end of May for final preparations before the World Cup.

Haissem Hassan&rsquo;s addition is a boost for both the player and the national team. His call-up came after more than five years of discussions under previous coaches, but the credit goes to Hossam Hassan and Ibrahim Hassan.
Naturally, the Egypt national team is tracking a large number of dual-nationality professionals who have been monitored for a long time. Hossam Hassan requires his staff to prepare initial reports on these players, but whether they join the next camp ahead of the World Cup ultimately depends on the technical staff&rsquo;s view.
When will Egypt&rsquo;s World Cup training camp begin, and what are the key parts of the preparation programme?
The camp will start at the end of May. Coordination is under way between Ibrahim Hassan, the Football Association and the clubs&rsquo; league to confirm the final date, especially as the league season will end on 15 May for the teams competing for the title. There is also coordination to arrange a friendly in Egypt before travelling to the United States to face Brazil on 7 June.
There have been reports of offers received by Hossam Hassan. Is that true? How does he handle such offers while focusing on the national team?
A major European marketing company did approach Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan about a deal and confirmed there were two offers from national teams that will take part in the World Cup. However, the matter is closed as far as the technical staff are concerned. The focus remains entirely on Egypt&rsquo;s World Cup campaign.

The Egypt national team is always under pressure from fans and the media. How do you handle that inside the camp?
Fan and media pressure is normal for a team of Egypt&rsquo;s stature. Thankfully, we have a strong technical staff who have been through many similar situations with the national team, Al Ahly and Zamalek, and the same applies to the experienced players, including the overseas-based professionals. Everyone inside the camp is doing their utmost to present the best possible image. The clearest example was the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco, where the camp was professional and exemplary in all administrative and media matters.
After the win over Saudi Arabia and the draw with Spain, how have those results affected the players&rsquo; confidence and World Cup readiness?
Winning 4-0 against Saudi Arabia in Jeddah, in front of their own fans, and drawing with Spain, one of the world&rsquo;s best sides, is a huge achievement. It reflects well on both staff and players and has given them a significant morale boost ahead of the World Cup.
Could we see surprises in the squad list? Are there players who might appear for the first time?
Hossam Hassan has said in many press conferences: &ldquo;The door of the national team is open to any player who shines and proves himself.&rdquo; The evidence is the new faces who have joined under him, more than 20 players, including Mostafa Shobeir, Hossam Abdelmaguid, Ahmed Eid, Mahmoud Saber, Mohamed Shehata, Haissem Hassan, Ahmed Nabil Koka, Islam Issa, Osama Faisal, Mohamed Ismail, Zlaka, Khaled Sobhi, Marwan Othman, Mohamed Rabia, Mohamed Alaa, Tarek Alaa, Amr El-Gazzar, Nasser Mansy and Ahmed Oufa.

The relationship between Hossam and Ibrahim Hassan and the players is like that of brothers. The two are among the legends of Egyptian football and have been through many of these situations as players themselves, so they know very well how to relate to and manage players in the national team environment.
How does the team handle media controversy around certain star players at their clubs, particularly Mohamed Salah?
The national team operates according to a specific media system. Every individual within the team knows their media rights and responsibilities, and there is full coordination through team director Ibrahim Hassan and the media coordinator. A player of Mohamed Salah&rsquo;s stature knows his own rights and duties when it comes to the media and handles such matters professionally.

Egypt&rsquo;s friendly against Brazil is seen as the final rehearsal before the World Cup. What are the technical and media objectives of that match?
The technical staff always pushes for matches against leading national teams. In their very first camp, the staff faced Croatia, who were third in the world at the time, and more recently played Spain in a goalless draw in Spain. The Brazil friendly will serve as the final preparation before the World Cup.
Hours before important matches, rumours often spread about player transfers or club disputes. How do you keep the team focused?
The technical staff always separates players from any matters outside the camp. The players are experienced enough to set aside rumours and stay focused, especially in a major tournament like the World Cup.
What would you like to say to Egyptian fans ahead of the team&rsquo;s World Cup journey?
My message to Egyptian fans, the national team&rsquo;s number one support, is that I am always happy to see them in the stands. They provide an enormous boost to the team and the players, as we saw in many matches, most recently in the Egypt-Saudi Arabia friendly in Jeddah. The strong presence of the Egyptian community there had a major impact on our 4-0 win. I hope they continue to back us, attend the matches and support their national team through it all.

Listeners tuning in for DJ of the Week were treated to a high-energy mix of house and dance. After the broadcast, attention quickly turned to the name behind the one-hour set. It was Egyptian DJ Mo Amer, who delivered a selection marked by both rhythm and range.
Speaking to NileFM, Mo Amer reflects on an unusual dual career as both a professional pilot and a DJ, bringing together precision and creativity in equal measure.
You started playing the piano at just six years old. Can you take us back to the moment when music first became a serious passion for you?
I actually started with music very early, learning piano and reading notes as a kid. But at some point, life took over, with work, responsibilities, and getting married&hellip; music slowly faded into the background.
The real turning point came in 2011, when my wife surprised me with a synthesizer for my birthday. It wasn&rsquo;t just a gift, it felt like she was reconnecting me with a part of myself I had almost forgotten.
From that point on, I started coming back to music, but it was on and off for a few years as I was still balancing work and life commitments.
Then COVID hit. As a pilot, I suddenly had time I&rsquo;d never had before, and I made a decision to either take this seriously, or let it go again.
That&rsquo;s when I committed fully. I went back to learning from scratch, studied production, took one-on-one sessions with professionals, and built everything step by step. That period is really when music stopped being a memory&hellip; and became part of my identity again.

You grew up during the golden era of trance in the early 2000s, inspired by artists such as Ti&euml;sto, Armin van Buuren, and Sasha. How did their music shape your sound as a producer today?
I grew up during what I&rsquo;d call the golden era of trance, and what really stayed with me wasn&rsquo;t just the sound, it was the feeling. Tracks from artists like Ti&euml;sto, Armin van Buuren, and Sasha gave me real goosebumps. It&rsquo;s that emotional lift that stays with you long after the track ends.
At some point, I started asking myself a simple question: if music can make me feel that way&hellip; why can&rsquo;t I create that for someone else?
That curiosity pushed me beyond just listening. I became obsessed with understanding how those moments are built. The tension, the release, and the melodies that connect emotionally.
Today, even though my sound has evolved more towards melodic and progressive house, that core idea never changed. I&rsquo;m always chasing that same emotional response.&nbsp;&nbsp;It&rsquo;s not&nbsp;&nbsp;just about making people dance, but making them feel something real.
Being both a professional pilot and a DJ is quite unique. How do you balance these two demanding careers, and do your travels influence your music?
Being a pilot and a DJ might seem like two completely different worlds, but for me, they actually complement each other.
Aviation is all about precision and discipline. You&rsquo;re trained to think ahead, stay calm under pressure, and execute everything with accuracy. Music, on the other hand, is where I allow myself to feel&hellip; it&rsquo;s more emotional and instinctive.
Traveling plays a big role in that balance. I&rsquo;ve had moments where I land in a city and realize one of my favorite artists is playing that night, and I get to experience it firsthand. Those moments are very inspiring, not just as a fan, but as a producer observing energy and crowd reactions.
At the same time, the quiet side of traveling is just as important. Layovers often become my creative space when I work on ideas or build sets.
In a way, the constant movement keeps me inspired, while the structure of my job keeps me grounded. It&rsquo;s a unique balance, but it&rsquo;s exactly what shapes me both as a person and as an artist.

Your tracks often blend melodic techno and progressive house with Middle Eastern influences. How important is your Egyptian and oriental heritage in shaping your musical identity?
As an Egyptian, my identity plays a big role in shaping my sound, but it wasn&rsquo;t something I forced from the beginning, it developed naturally.
I actually started with remixes, and I was always drawn to Arabic melodies that carry strong emotion. I wasn&rsquo;t interested in commercial pop hits, I was more focused on timeless melodies that already had a story and feeling behind them.
One of the tracks that really represents that connection for me is &ldquo;Elfarasha&rdquo;. It&rsquo;s a piece that brings back childhood memories and creates a very personal emotional response, and that&rsquo;s exactly what I look for when I choose what to reinterpret.
Over time, I realized that these elements aren&rsquo;t just references, they&rsquo;re part of my identity. Today, even in my original productions, I try to carry that same emotional depth and oriental character, but within a modern melodic and progressive house framework.
For me, it&rsquo;s not about blending genres randomly, it&rsquo;s about translating where I come from into a sound that feels authentic.
You began producing music in 2013 and even collaborated with Aly &amp; Fila early on. What was that experience like, and how did it impact your growth as a producer?
I actually had an idea back in 2009 that I couldn&rsquo;t stop thinking about, but at the time, I didn&rsquo;t have the tools or the technical knowledge to bring it to life.
I shared the idea with Fila, who&rsquo;s a childhood friend, and we brainstormed it together, but the project never moved forward.
A couple of years later, he called me unexpectedly and told me that while going through his old projects, he found that idea again and decided to work on it. The track ended up being featured as Tune of the Week on A State of Trance&nbsp;with Armin van Buuren.
That moment meant a lot to me, not just because of the recognition, but because it showed me that even without the technical skills at the time, I had a strong musical instinct.
It pushed me to take production seriously later on, knowing that if I combine that instinct with the right knowledge and discipline, I could create something meaningful on my own.
Tracks such as &ldquo;Elfarasha&rdquo;, &ldquo;All Alone&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Flight 001&rdquo; have gained strong attention online. If you had to choose one track that best represents you as an artist, which would it be, and why?
The track that represents me the most isn&rsquo;t released yet, and that&rsquo;s exactly why I believe in it.
It&rsquo;s called &ldquo;Man Ana&rdquo;, and it brings together everything I&rsquo;ve been building towards: emotion, storytelling, Arabic identity, and a melodic electronic sound that feels honest to who I am today.
This track is special because it&rsquo;s not just about production, it&rsquo;s about expression. The lyrics, the emotions and the atmosphere all come together to create something very personal.
I&rsquo;m also collaborating with Hend Abdelhalim on this project, which adds another layer of depth to it.
If I had to mention a released track, &ldquo;Elfarasha&rdquo; would be the closest, because of its emotional connection and the memories it carries. But &ldquo;Man Ana&rdquo; is really where I feel everything comes together as an artist.
You collaborated with actress Hend Abdelhalim. How did that collaboration come about, and what was the creative process like when working together?
Hend and I go way back, we&rsquo;re close friends, and I&rsquo;ve always believed she&rsquo;s incredibly talented, not just as an actress, but as a singer with a very distinctive and emotional voice.
We actually worked on a remix together around six years ago, but unfortunately it never saw the light due to copyright issues. That project always stayed in the back of my mind, I felt like we had something real that deserved a proper release.
When I was working on &ldquo;Man Ana&rdquo;, I knew it needed a voice that could carry both vulnerability and strength, and she was the first person that came to mind.
The moment I sent her the lyrics, her reaction was immediate. She connected with it on a very personal level, and from that point, the collaboration felt very natural.
This project feels like the right timing for both of us, not just to collaborate again, but to finally create something that truly represents what we&rsquo;re capable of together.
You&rsquo;re also a father. How do your children react to your music and DJ career?
Becoming a father changed my priorities completely. At one point, I stepped away from music because I wanted to be fully present for my family.
What&rsquo;s interesting is that they were also the reason I came back to it. Their support and encouragement gave me the push to reconnect with something I truly love.
Today, music is not separate from my family life, it&rsquo;s part of it. My kids love being around the studio, and we have these simple, goofy moments together that make everything feel very real and grounded.
In a way, they remind me why I do this, not just to create music, but to enjoy the process and stay connected to what matters most.
You organised the Sanctuary Music Festival in Ras Sedr back in 2019. What was the vision behind that festival, and would you consider bringing it back?
Back in 2019, the electronic music scene in Egypt was still relatively limited, with only a few major events like Sandbox Festival.
I saw an opportunity to create something different, especially in Ras Sudr. It&rsquo;s a unique location, slightly isolated, with great weather and a beautiful natural setting that felt perfect for a more immersive experience.
The vision behind Sanctuary wasn&rsquo;t just about music. It was about creating a full experience, a space where people could disconnect from the routine and feel part of something bigger.
From the lineup to the atmosphere, every detail was meant to contribute to that feeling. It wasn&rsquo;t easy, but it was a very rewarding experience, both creatively and personally.
It also allowed me to build strong connections with the artists involved, which was an important part of the journey.
You&rsquo;ve been selected as DJ of the Week on NileFM. What can listeners expect from your set, and is there any surprise you&rsquo;ve prepared for them?
For this set, I wanted to focus on energy that feels uplifting and accessible.
Since it&rsquo;s a radio show, I approached it differently from a club set. Most people will be listening in their cars or during their daily routine, so the idea was to create something that connects instantly.
I leaned more towards vocal-driven tracks, melodies that people can sing along to, hum, and genuinely enjoy without overthinking.
The goal is simple: I want people to feel good while listening. Whether they&rsquo;re driving, stuck in traffic, or just passing time, I want the music to put a smile on their face.
There might also be a few unexpected moments in the set, but overall, it&rsquo;s about creating a positive and memorable experience.

Capturing truth on camera is no simple task. Reality carries too many layers, too many details, and too many silences that resist being scripted. Yet for Egyptian director Mohamed Rashad, that challenge led him all the way to the Berlinale and now back to Cairo, where his acclaimed workplace thriller The Settlement is set to screen for local audiences.
Egypt's Only Film at Berlin
The film made history as the only Egyptian title selected for the Perspectives section at the 75th Berlin International Film Festival. Inspired by a true story, it follows two brothers, 23-year-old Hossam and his 12-year-old sibling Maro, as they navigate life in a marginalised Alexandrian community. After their father is killed in a workplace accident, the factory responsible offers them jobs in place of accountability, setting the stage for a tense and emotionally charged unraveling as the brothers begin to question the truth behind his death.

Going Deeper with the Director
NileFM spoke exclusively with Rashad to go behind the scenes of the film's success and the true story that first moved him to make it.
When Actors and Workers Taught Each Other
The Settlement took five years to bring to the screen, and one of Rashad's boldest decisions was casting rising actors alongside real factory workers. This was not merely an artistic flourish but a practical necessity.
"The truth is that bringing in actors to work alongside the workers was essential," he explains. "I needed the people who appear working in the factory to seem genuinely real, and for the work on the machines to look natural. Honestly, the blend between actors and workers created something really beautiful. Each group was learning from the other. The workers were often teaching the actors how to operate the machines, while the actors were sometimes showing the workers how to get into character and carry themselves in front of the camera."

The Faces Behind the Story
The film features rising talents Adham Shukr, Ziad Islam, Hajar Omar, Hanaday Abd El Khalek, Mohamed Abdel Hady, and Emad Ghoneim, with cinematography by Mahmoud Lotfi and editing by Heba Othman. It is a co-production between Egypt, France, Germany, Qatar, and Saudi Arabia, produced by Hala Lotfy of Hassala Films alongside international partners.
Why Unknown Faces Were the Only Choice
Choosing unknown faces was also deliberate. "Casting new actors was intentional because I needed performers who would come across as real people, with no prior baggage in the audience's mind from previous roles that might prevent them from being believed. That probably comes from my documentary background," Rashad says. "The preparation involved an enormous number of rehearsals. We talked through the characters in depth, built full histories for each one, so that every actor knew their character's backstory. That really helped them inhabit their roles."

A Filmmaker Who Fears Preachiness Above All
Rashad's documentary roots run deep. His debut film "Little Eagles" examined leftist activism through his own family history, and The Settlement continues that thread, turning its lens on labour exploitation and working-class grief in Alexandria's industrial neighbourhoods. Asked how he approached a story so politically charged without letting it tip into preachiness, he is direct about his instincts.
"Honestly, the thing I fear most is being heavy-handed, and that's something I'm constantly trying to avoid. No matter what issues or subjects I address, it's always through human stories, emotions, and feelings. That's what draws me in first. At the core, I'm building a story: a narrative, relationships, characters. Then, after that, I try to understand why the characters behaved the way they did, and what lies beneath the events they're caught up in. The story always comes first, and the theme grows out of it, never the other way around."
From Berlin to Cairo, a Festival Triumph
The film's festival journey has been remarkable. Following its Berlinale premiere, The Settlement won the Audience Award at the sixth MiWorld Young Film Festival, screened at Italy's African, Asian, and Latin American Film Festival (FESCAAL) and Spain's Afrikaldia Film Festival, where it claimed a second Audience Award, received the Silver Whirl Award at the Oran International Arab Film Festival, and took home the Bronze Star for Best Narrative Film at Egypt's El Gouna Film Festival. Critics across the region have praised it as "an Egyptian feature that deserves to be celebrated," highlighting its emotional depth and striking visual storytelling.
The Message That Cannot Be Reduced to One Line
Now, as stories about marginalised communities and corporate accountability continue to resonate globally, the film arrives in Cairo carrying the weight of all that recognition. For Rashad, the question of what he wants audiences to take away does not have a single, simple answer, and he is comfortable with that.
"I don't believe a film tries to deliver a single message. What I mean by 'message' here isn't a direct, preachy one, but rather the feeling, the emotional state, or the question the film places you in. I can't say there's one definitive thing I want to say. But what I can point to is one of the most important root causes of human suffering across the world: capitalism, which reduces all of us to mere objects moving in its service. That applies to workers and employees, and sometimes to ourselves personally."

It is not only a film you watch. It runs for 76 minutes, but it took ten years to finish. It is about life, loss, and acceptance. After winning around 15 awards and screening at more than 50 Arab and international film festivals, Egyptian director Namir Abdel Messeeh's Life After Siham has succeeded in turning personal grief into cinematic art. Lost after his mother's death, Abdel Messeeh made a decision: to introduce that loss to the world.
The film unfolds in the aftermath of Siham's passing. Namir refused to accept that she was gone forever. From his point of view, his mother is immortal. And so he embarks on a journey to discover his family's history between Egypt and France, following in the footsteps of Chahine's cinema to tell a story filled with love, memory, and the pain of belonging.

In Abdel Messeeh's own words about the film's Egyptian release: "After travelling to Cannes, touring the world, and receiving over 15 awards, my film finally arrives where it all began. Seeing this story released in Egyptian theatres is much more than a professional milestone. It is the fulfilment of a promise. It is the profound feeling of coming full circle. Through cinema, I am bringing my parents back home. This is the story of a family that had to leave, but which, through the magic of film, finally returns to the land of its ancestors. This film is Egyptian in its soul, in its breath, and in its heart."
NileFM spoke exclusively with Namir Abdel Messeeh to talk about milestones, grief, and how a film can become therapy, opening up feelings in its audience that they never realised they had not yet healed from.
How did your passion for filming and documenting moments from your life begin, and when did it develop into a full project?
I discovered it when a friend of mine had a camera. I borrowed it once and started filming, and I found that I really enjoyed it. At first, I was filming my friends; then, without realising it, I found myself filming my family a lot. But the goal was never to make a film with them. I filmed them because I love holding onto life's moments, like memories. I had this kind of virus in me where I loved being hidden behind the camera. When I film, I feel invisible. I could go anywhere. It gave me the courage to film strangers on the street. I was shy and embarrassed to talk to anyone in the street, but holding a camera changed that feeling completely. The camera gave me the courage of being hidden while also giving me the strength to hold my ground somewhere. That gradually shifted into filming my family, until a specific project came along where I was funded to make a film about my father. From that point, I transitioned from just filming to actually making films about my family; my father, my mother and my family. That film led me to make The Virgin, the Copts and Me, and after my mother passed away, it led to Life After Siham. The challenge with that film was how to film my mother when she was no longer there. I wanted to hold onto her, but there was nothing left to film. The chairs were empty, the room was empty, my father was sitting alone. So we started filming, and I was searching for a way to capture Siham. That is what created the film.

While filming Life After Siham, was it the son or the director who was in control? And how did you resolve the tension between the two?
The director was more present than the son. The director actually saved the son. The director is removed from emotion because he is looking at feelings through the lens of a film. So I was more of a director than a son throughout the whole process. And it was the film itself, the act of making it, that allowed me to feel the emotions of the son that I could not feel while filming. The filming was a kind of therapy, something that protected me from the pain. The camera creates a distance between you and reality, and I needed that distance because the reality was too painful.
You incorporated scenes from Youssef Chahine's films. Were you influenced by his personal approach to his own work the way you brought yourself into yours?
Yes, what I admired was that he put himself in his own films. It takes courage to do that, because a director is supposed to stay hidden behind the camera. To step in front of it is not easy at all. You can do it in different ways, as an actor playing different roles, but he was not doing that. He was talking about himself. Even when he took a role in Cairo Station, it was a role no other actor would have wanted to play. He put himself in difficult positions. He also talked about his relationship with his family. That courage impressed me. It is not necessarily about putting your physical body in the film. What matters is seeing that the director is putting himself at risk, showing that he is not just filming others while keeping himself out of it. He was saying: I am filming myself, I am sharing something about who I am. That is what I admired.

In the film, you wished that life were a film we could reshoot. If you had the ability to reshoot and change just one thing in your life, what would it be?
There are many things, but the one that troubles me most is that when my daughter turns 18, we will not be able to celebrate with her grandmother. I always used to tell my mother when she was sick, "Get better, Mama, so you can sit and watch the children grow up." She passed away when my daughter was five and my son was two. The thought that we could have all celebrated together, that she could have been there when they got married or turned twenty, is something that will only ever exist in my imagination. I picture what my mother's reaction would have been seeing Matilda. That is the thing that will not happen, and I will live with that, but it will happen in my imagination in its own way.
If your mother could watch the film today, what do you think she would say after seeing it?
She would ask me why I told our story. Who told you to tell my story?
The film documents a journey spanning over ten years of your life, yet the audience experiences it in an hour and sixteen minutes. What did it feel like to see those ten years condensed in front of you on screen?
I do not think about the length of the film as much as I think about its impact. There are films that live inside us. I chose specific moments from my life to tell a story and convey a certain feeling. I knew that feeling would stay with certain people for a long time and affect their lives, the way certain films have affected mine. That is what gives me the energy to keep going. Whether a film takes two years or ten to make does not matter as much, though six months would certainly be preferable. What matters most is that its impact on people is powerful.

"Life After Siham" achieved great success and won numerous awards at both international and Arab film festivals. What was the most significant milestone in that awards journey for you?
That it is now being shown publicly in Egypt. And the biggest award for me was simply finishing the film, because completing something that difficult, that long in the making, meant everything. When it was done, I told the editor and the producer that this was the final version, and I felt like I had won every award in the world. Everything that came after was a bonus, something beautiful. But the smile I felt when the film was screened and I saw that we had actually finished it, that was the real achievement. And, of course, screening it in Egypt and in cinemas.

What message or feeling do you hope audiences carry with them when they leave the film?
People told me they wanted to watch it a second and third time. People told me thank you for the film, which is something rare, something we are not used to seeing, and something we need. Someone told me it encouraged them after five years of working on their own film and gave them the courage to keep going and feel that what they want to make matters. The messages are different for everyone depending on where they are in their own lives. But the film reached people's hearts.

DJ Saify lives between two worlds, each shaping the music he delivers. Drawing from these influences, he creates sets that blend emotion, rhythm, and energy. From his early days with The Disc Jockeys to his current project Zabadi Khalat, Saify has steadily built a sound that tells a story as much as it gets people moving.
NileFM spoke to DJ Saify to explore his journey and the surprises he has in store for this special night.
Let&rsquo;s start from the beginning. Tell us about yourself. How did your journey into DJing begin?
My name is Ahmad, also known as Saify. I live between two worlds: my daytime reality and my true self at night behind the decks. Music has always been my escape and my main form of expression.
My journey started about ten years ago at a club, when I saw DJ Mohasseb perform. The way he controlled the energy and connected with the crowd completely shifted something in me. That night, I knew I wanted to do this.

You often describe your music as a blend of Afro house and melodic house. What drew you to these genres?
I&rsquo;ve always been drawn to music that evokes deeper feelings. Afro house has raw groove and rhythm, while melodic house brings emotion and storytelling.
Blending both allows me to balance energy and feeling. It&rsquo;s not just about dancing; it&rsquo;s about losing yourself in the moment.
Take us behind the decks. How do you build a DJ set from start to finish?
I approach every set as a journey. I usually start by creating a subtle mood to pull people in, then gradually raise the energy.
Reading the crowd is everything. I adapt in real time, creating tension and release. A good set should feel like a story you don&rsquo;t want to end.

Which event stands out most in your career?
Playing at Amsterdam Dance Event was a defining moment. Being part of such a global platform, surrounded by different sounds and cultures, was unforgettable. It pushed me to think bigger and refine my identity as an artist.
What is the most memorable feedback you&rsquo;ve received?
Someone once told me after a set, &ldquo;You didn&rsquo;t just play music, you made us feel something.&rdquo; That stuck with me. My goal has always been to create a real emotional connection, not just a party.
Do you remember the moment you realised you wanted to be a DJ?
It grew on me over time. I used to watch Armin van Buuren and Ti&euml;sto sets, especially big events like Sensation White. The energy, lights, and crowd felt like another world, and I knew I wanted to be part of it.
You&rsquo;re involved in several collaborative projects. How do they enhance creativity?
I&rsquo;m one half of two projects that shaped my journey. The Disc Jockeys was an early chapter that built my foundation and experience.
Right now, I focus on Zabadi Khalat. It&rsquo;s growing steadily and reflects where I am creatively today. Collaborations push you to think differently when there&rsquo;s mutual understanding and shared vision, the result is always stronger than working solo.
Looking ahead, what are you exploring?
I&rsquo;m refining my sound in Afro and melodic house, aiming to create a signature identity. I&rsquo;m also working on upcoming collaborations and concepts to bring fresh twists to my sets.
What have been some of the biggest challenges?
Balancing my &ldquo;daytime life&rdquo; with my passion for music has been one of the biggest challenges. It requires discipline and consistency. Over time, I&rsquo;ve learned to manage both, and the contrast fuels me creatively.
You were recently selected as DJ of the Week on NileFM. How did it feel?
It felt amazing. Being recognised on a platform like NileFM is a big step. Listeners can expect a set that represents my sound; emotional, energetic, and crafted as a journey from start to finish.

Egyptian DJ and producer Omar Baset has opened up about his rise in electronic music, describing a journey shaped by persistence, experimentation and a clear artistic vision.
Speaking on "Let&rsquo;s Dance with Nancy" on NileFM, Baset reflected on how a childhood habit of listening to the station has come full circle, with him now appearing as a guest.
&ldquo;It&rsquo;s a pleasure&hellip; I&rsquo;ve always been listening to it since a young age,&rdquo; he said.
Where It All Began
Baset&rsquo;s relationship with music started around 2010, when he became immersed in EDM and trance.
A key turning point came in 2014 after discovering French DJ Quentin Mosimann, whose multi-instrument performances left a lasting impression.
&ldquo;This guy was insane. He&rsquo;s doing everything.&rdquo;
Inspired, Baset began experimenting with music production alongside a friend, marking the beginning of his career.
YouTube, night shifts and persistence
In the early years, Baset taught himself production techniques using YouTube, describing it as essential to his development.
At the same time, he was working in a call centre, often producing music during breaks.
His first major breakthrough came in 2017, when the label Stay Yoki responded to one of his demo submissions after repeated attempts.
&ldquo;I felt this is the first achievement I have ever did in my life.&rdquo;
A distinct, dance-driven sound
Baset describes his music as &ldquo;playful&rdquo;, centred on groove and accessibility rather than intensity.
He says his aim is to provide listeners with a sense of relief.
&ldquo;I&rsquo;m trying to deliver&hellip; making people feel a little bit relieved.&rdquo;
A staple in his sets is the track &ldquo;Stephanie&rdquo; (Victor remix), which he says consistently resonates with audiences.
Inside the production process
Baset emphasised the importance of not forcing creativity, describing music-making as a fluid process.
&ldquo;If you&rsquo;re forcing the creative process, you&rsquo;re going to lose the identity.&rdquo;
He often starts with rhythm or vocals, allowing the rest of the track to develop organically. When facing creative blocks, he prefers to step away and return later with a fresh perspective.
The making of &ldquo;Sierra&rdquo;
One of his notable releases, &ldquo;Sierra&rdquo;, created with collaborator RG, took more than a year to complete.
Baset said the extended timeline was largely due to post-production refinements, as both artists worked to perfect the final version.
&ldquo;You need to think about it in your own mind.&rdquo;
A Defining Moment At The Pyramids
Among his career highlights, Baset pointed to a performance at the Animus Quantum Genesis event near the Giza Pyramids.
Playing to a crowd of up to 20,000 people, he described the experience as emotional.
&ldquo;I had goosebumps&hellip; I was going to cry.&rdquo;
With the pyramids forming the backdrop, Baset said the moment was difficult to process.

The night before one of the defining moments of her career, Iman Al-Junaidi had not slept. She had arrived from Alexandria, studied an unfamiliar score until dawn, prepared herself, and walked into a room full of 120 musicians she had never met, a full symphony orchestra, performing a Western operatic repertoire. None of it was territory she had previously worked in.
She raised her baton anyway. That evening, as the Grand Egyptian Museum opened its doors to the world, it was Al-Junaidi standing at the front of the stage, not a name imported from a European conservatoire, not a celebrated veteran of Cairo&rsquo;s opera scene, but a woman who had spent decades conducting Arabic music ensembles in Beni Suef, building something from very little, in a governorate with no music college and forty conductors, thirty-nine of whom were men.

She is, and remains, the first female maestro in Egypt and the Arab world. Recognition did not end there. She would later stand before President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi at a ceremony honouring Egyptian women; another room, another moment she had not entirely expected to find herself in.
Alongside her work in the concert hall, she runs the Wajdan Egypt Foundation for Arts and Culture, sits on the Culture Committee at the National Council for Childhood and Motherhood, and quietly builds programmes for young talents and people with disabilities who might otherwise never find their way into a rehearsal room.

NileFM spoke to Al-Junaidi to trace her journey from Upper Egypt to the presidential palace. What she built, what it cost, and what she is still working towards.
If we go back to the beginning of your journey, from your first steps in music to becoming the first female maestro in Egypt and the Arab world, tell us about that journey and the challenges you faced.
It was a difficult journey. After graduating from college, I worked in several Arab countries, leading music groups in arts centres and within Ministries of Education. After returning to Egypt, I settled in Beni Suef, where I was assigned to lead the Beni Suef University music team and also became the conductor of the National Arabic Music Ensemble.
I love my work, and I always strive to lead. I constantly study and explore new developments in music. Over time, I won seven or eight awards and participated in many Arabic music festivals, as well as university creativity competitions.
It was a difficult journey, but also a beautiful one that taught me a lot. Through it, I discovered I was the first female maestro in Upper Egypt. At that time, there were about 40 conductors in Upper Egypt working in Arabic music at Cultural Palaces; 39 were men, and I was the only woman.
One of the biggest challenges was that there were no girls in the bands. People criticised me, saying, &ldquo;Why are you doing this? You&rsquo;re a woman leaving your home and children.&rdquo; But that never mattered to me because I believe art lives in the soul, and I love giving my best through it.
Each stage had its own challenges. At first, it was hard to find musicians in Beni Suef, because there was no music college or Arabic music institute there. If, for example, a flute player was absent, I could not find a replacement. Instruments were also limited, so I often had to bring musicians from Cairo for concerts.
Finding female singers was also difficult. Even when I found one, I often had to convince her family to allow her to sing. Sometimes, if she couldn&rsquo;t attend a concert, the performance could not happen.
During the revolution period, I formed my own private band, &ldquo;Al Maestro.&rdquo; I started in Beni Suef, bringing together talented musicians and singers I knew. We recorded videos and presented them in Cairo at venues such as the Opera House and El Sawy Culturewheel. The reception was very positive, and I began travelling constantly between Cairo and Beni Suef.&nbsp;
Eventually, I decided to settle in Cairo to access more musicians. I formed a band there, expanded its repertoire, incorporated folklore elements, and presented new shows. Initially, the audience was small, but over time I built a following.
My first major recognition came in 2010 when I was honoured as one of the creative women by the Cultural Palaces Organization at Cairo Opera House. Later, after forming my band, I received the &ldquo;First Lady of Egypt&rdquo; award in 2021 at Qubba Palace, celebrating successful Egyptian women. That moment was a lifelong dream.
Receiving that recognition carried a huge responsibility to work harder, expand my projects, and further develop the band. I later founded the Wajdan Egypt Foundation for Arts and Culture, focusing on talented individuals and how to showcase their abilities. Because I struggled early in my career, I always try to support amateur artists. In every concert, I try to highlight two or three new talents to give them a stronger push. The foundation supports talents in all forms of art because art is a message.

You recently participated in International Women&rsquo;s Day celebrations attended by President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi. What did that moment feel like?
It was a huge honour. I never expected to be recognised by the president, to sit beside him, speak, and express my opinion. For me, it was truly a lifelong dream.
That day was also emotionally difficult, as my brother had passed away the day before. Despite my grief, I felt it was important to attend and meet the president. Thanks to God, I managed to speak about important topics related to children and young talents.

You have met President Abdel Fattah el-Sisi more than once. What is the most influential advice or message he gave you?
He emphasised three important points: the role and recognition of Egyptian women, the care of people with disabilities, and the importance of art and talent.
He spoke about creating a &ldquo;State of Arts,&rdquo; similar to the State of "Quranic Recitation," to support and nurture artistic talent. I appreciated how he pays attention to details and supports Upper Egypt. I thanked him for supporting Egyptian women, Upper Egyptian women, and the arts; this honours Egypt as a whole.
Before the Grand Egyptian Museum opening, what were the most important behind-the-scenes moments during preparation?
The invitation was a complete surprise. I had never expected to lead the symphony orchestra at the museum&rsquo;s opening, especially since I run an independent foundation.
The recording took place over just two days, and I had only just received the score. It was an opera performance, Western music, all new to me. I did not sleep that night, studying the music intensely. I did not know any of the 120 musicians in the orchestra, but I was determined to succeed.
During filming, I felt dizzy from exhaustion and had to sit for a moment. But after finishing, I felt immense happiness; I had honoured Egypt.
In the Wajdan Foundation, you focus on teaching music to people with disabilities. Tell us more about that experience.
From the beginning, the foundation welcomed all forms of art, including for people with disabilities. We teach skills such as drawing, writing, and handicrafts, and organise &ldquo;Happiness Days&rdquo; for singing, poetry, and performances.

As the first female maestro in Egypt and the Arab world, did you ever feel you had to work harder to prove yourself?
Every stage has challenges, and every stage makes your dreams grow bigger. Even now, I feel I have many dreams I have yet to achieve. I told the president about my artistic and cultural projects, and I hope to see them realised.
You worked teaching music in Kuwait and Oman. How did teaching abroad differ from teaching in Egypt?
Egypt is the country of civilisation and art. Abroad, I taught singing at youth and sports arts centres for people aged 18&ndash;35. In Egypt, I teach all ages, even those over 70, and cover music more broadly: instruments, religious chanting, musical modes; all aspects of music.
You have spoken about a &ldquo;State of Creativity and Art.&rdquo; Can you explain this vision?
The idea is to discover talents, nurture them, and showcase them. Many talented people lack opportunities. The president suggested creating a &lsquo;State of Arts and Creativity&rsquo;, similar to the &lsquo;State of Quranic Recitation&rsquo;, which would support artistic talent, particularly in Upper Egypt, and highlight even the smallest talents.
When you meet a new musical talent, what makes you feel this person could become a real artist?
At first, most talented people are shy and unsure. I listen carefully, whether they sing or play an instrument. Training and practice are key. I guide them on pronunciation, technique, and improvement.
What distinguishes Egyptian music from the rest of the world, and how can it reach global audiences?
Egyptian music has a very long history. Anyone who wants to become famous or compose music often comes to Egypt. Once you succeed here, you can reach the world.

What is the most important message you deliver through your artistic work?
My message is to promote true artistic creativity; honest, respectful, and elegant art that honours our culture. We aim to combat low-quality art, starting with children, introducing them to great artists like Umm Kulthum and Warda, and helping them reconnect with Egypt&rsquo;s artistic heritage.

After years of listening to &ldquo;DJ of the Week&rdquo; during his daily routines, DJ Lostboi now finds himself on the other side of the airwaves as this week&rsquo;s featured artist on NileFM.
His journey into music has been gradual, shaped by early experimentation with production and a growing fascination with how DJs influence the energy of a crowd. This Thursday at 10 PM, he brings that experience to radio, sharing both his sound and story.
In this interview, he reflects on his artistic approach, creative process, and what lies ahead.
How would you define DJ Lostboi as an artist, and what sets your sound apart in today&rsquo;s electronic music scene?
I see myself as someone who builds emotion on the dance floor, rather than simply playing tracks. My focus is on taking listeners on a journey through my selections and creating moments they can connect with. I also try to introduce audiences to sounds they may not expect, offering a glimpse into how I experience music.

What was the moment you decided to become a DJ and music producer?
It wasn&rsquo;t a single moment but a gradual process. I was always interested in music and began producing at a young age. Over time, watching DJs shape the atmosphere of a crowd made me want to take on that role myself.
Can you take us behind the scenes of one of your favourite tracks? What story or emotion shaped it?
One of my favourite projects is an upcoming remix titled &ldquo;FLIGHTLINE,&rdquo; created in collaboration with Cairo-based producer Giggs. The lyrics of the original track played a key role in shaping our interpretation.

If you had to choose one set or mix that truly represents you as an artist, which would it be, and why?

How does it feel to be featured as DJ of the Week on NileFM?
It feels significant. I have followed the programme for some time, so being featured now marks an important moment for me. It suggests that the work I&rsquo;ve been doing is moving in the right direction.

According to The Times, tourists are drawn to Egypt&rsquo;s Red Sea coast throughout the year to enjoy sunshine and participate in water sports, while also travelling to nearby cities to explore the country&rsquo;s ancient history spanning thousands of years.
The newspaper added that Egypt&rsquo;s geographical location can make it vulnerable to regional tensions when instability rises in the Middle East. However, it said authorities have strengthened security procedures across Red Sea tourist resorts, contributing to their continued safety and popularity among international visitors.
The report also pointed out that Sharm El Sheikh receives around 10 million tourists annually, while Hurghada remains widely known for its diving sites and water-based recreational activities.

The US dollar has weakened against the Egyptian pound, according to the latest exchange rate data released by the National Bank of Egypt (NBE) on Wednesday.
The currency was quoted at EGP 52.40 for buying and EGP 52.50 for selling, down from the previous session, indicating a modest strengthening of the local currency.
The decline follows a period of relative stability in the foreign exchange market and suggests slightly reduced demand for the US dollar in recent trading.
Other major currencies remained elevated. The Euro traded at EGP 61.72 (buy) and EGP 61.95 (sell), while the British pound stood at EGP 71.03 (buy) and EGP 71.28 (sell). The Chinese yuan was recorded at EGP 7.68 (buy) and EGP 7.70 (sell), and the UAE dirham at EGP 14.25 (buy) and EGP 14.29 (sell).
Market activity appeared subdued, with analysts pointing to cautious sentiment and limited trading volumes. Attention remains focused on shifts in foreign currency demand, as well as broader economic developments that could influence exchange rate movements.
While the dollar&rsquo;s decline offers some support to the Egyptian pound, it remains unclear whether this signals the start of a sustained trend or a temporary adjustment.
For now, the pound&rsquo;s gains are seen as tentative, with uncertainty continuing to shape the near-term outlook.

Egypt&rsquo;s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, has announced the launch of a nationwide medical and ambulance plan for Eid al-Fitr 2026, aimed at ensuring readiness across the health system during the holiday period.
The ministry said more than 700 government hospitals have increased emergency preparedness, with emergency departments and operating theatres functioning around the clock as travel and public gatherings rise.
Ambulance Services and Rapid Response
The plan includes enhanced deployment by the Egyptian Ambulance Authority, with around 3,000 ambulances operating across governorates and an additional 1,200 vehicles positioned at key locations.
Ambulances have been stationed near main roads, public squares, mosques, Eid prayer areas, parks, and other gathering points. Twenty-seven emergency rooms are linked to a central control centre to enable real-time monitoring and dispatch, while regional officials oversee high-traffic areas.

Focus on Major Roads
Authorities say priority has been given to major routes, including the coastal road between Damietta and Matrouh, the Cairo-Alexandria desert road, the agricultural road, as well as routes in South Sinai, the Red Sea, and Upper Egypt.
More than 600 fixed and mobile ambulance points have been deployed along these roads to allow rapid response to accidents.
Hospital Preparedness
Hospitals have also increased capacity in emergency and intensive care units. Around 250 facilities have been designated as primary referral centres on highways, supported by 54 rapid response teams for large-scale incidents.
Blood banks have been supplied with an additional 40,000 units, and medical stocks have been reinforced to meet potential demand.
Public Health Measures
The preventive medicine sector has intensified inspections of more than 35,000 food outlets, including sweet shops, restaurants, hotels, parks, and public transport hubs.
Around 1,200 inspection teams have been deployed to monitor compliance with health and safety standards.
Monitoring and Public Guidance

The ministry has also urged the public to follow health guidelines, with the hotline 137 available for medical enquiries and emergency assistance throughout the Eid holiday.

Airing from 8 to 10 AM, the conversation explored international collaboration, student mobility, and the benefits of transnational education for learners seeking global opportunities without leaving home.
Defining Herself as an Educator
Nesma shared her personal perspective on her role: &ldquo;So I&rsquo;m at the British Council, but how I define myself is as an educator, an education researcher. I&rsquo;ve been working in higher education for 15 years, which technically means research around higher education opportunities within the region, with the aim of informing the UK sector of these opportunities and then bridging, making connections, and building these relationships between the UK, Egypt, and beyond.&rdquo;
When asked why education is such a passion, she said, &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve always been a lifelong learner. Education is at the core of development, supporting people to find what they&rsquo;re meant to do and helping nations meet their goals. Knowledge is power, regardless of where it comes from.&rdquo;
What is Transnational Education?
The discussion then turned to transnational education (TNE). Nesma explained: &ldquo;Transnational education is when a university in one country offers a programme or a degree in another country, physically moving to meet students where they are. Instead of Egyptian students travelling to get a degree in the UK, the UK institution comes to Egypt and delivers that in-country through different models.&rdquo;
She highlighted the accessibility of this model: &ldquo;This increases access to international education for students who can&rsquo;t travel for personal, family, or financial reasons. You get the benefits of an international degree without ever having to leave home.&rdquo;
Models of Transnational Education
On international branch campuses: &ldquo;This is one of the independent models of transnational education where a university expands to a new country, offering the same programmes and teaching methods, and bringing its expertise into a new context. Students graduate with one international degree that is very similar to what they would receive if they studied abroad.&rdquo;
On joint degrees: &ldquo;Joint degrees are when two universities come together to develop a programme. You have international expertise alongside local knowledge, creating something relevant to students and their context. It&rsquo;s co-created, combining the strengths of both institutions into one degree accredited by both.&rdquo;
On digital learning: &ldquo;This could be fully online learning, where you&rsquo;re in Egypt studying at a university abroad, which is still transnational education. There are also blended models combining online and face-to-face learning, usually involving a local partner and an international partner. The international side may develop the virtual learning environment and resources, while local expertise ensures the content is contextualised. Exams, for example, may take place in Egypt, even if systems are hosted abroad.&rdquo;
Why Egypt is a Key Destination
Egypt has become the fourth-largest host country globally for UK transnational education programmes, with around 38,000 students enrolled. Nesma explained the appeal: &ldquo;Egypt has 3.8 million students in higher education, expected to grow to 5 million by 2030. There&rsquo;s strong demand, and universities in Egypt are keen to partner with international counterparts. Students trust UK institutions, and government strategies highlight internationalisation as a priority.&rdquo;
The Benefits for Students
The advantages extend beyond studying locally. Nesma highlighted global recognition and employability: &ldquo;You get a degree that can be used anywhere in the world without needing revalidation. Students also develop critical thinking, leadership, communication, and intercultural skills that are highly valued by employers.&rdquo;
She also emphasised the British Council&rsquo;s role: &ldquo;We work with governments, institutions, and learners. We help ensure supportive regulations, bring stakeholders together through networking, and guide students on accessing opportunities. Everything we do is research-driven to continuously improve partnerships.&rdquo;
Regional Collaboration through Deep Dialogues
Nesma discussed the recent regional Deep Dialogue in Cairo: &ldquo;Participants from 11 countries came together to learn from different models of transnational education. Mature ecosystems like Egypt shared insights with countries still developing their frameworks. We discussed regulation, quality assurance, and engaged directly with students to understand their experiences.&rdquo;
She added, &ldquo;These dialogues build a community of practice. Connections continue beyond the event, creating sustainable networks that support education across the region.&rdquo;

Egypt’s Health Minister Hails Magdi Yacoub Foundation for Life-Saving Cardiac Work

Egypt&rsquo;s General Authority for Healthcare Accreditation and Regulation (GAHAR) has granted full and preliminary accreditation to 32 health facilities across the country, according to decisions issued by the Supreme Committee for the Accreditation of Health Facilities.
The move is part of efforts to strengthen quality and patient safety standards in line with internationally recognised benchmarks set by the International Society for Quality in Health Care (ISQua).
Officials say the accreditations aim to improve the efficiency of healthcare institutions and prepare them for integration into Egypt&rsquo;s Universal Health Insurance system, which seeks to expand access to safe and high-quality medical services nationwide.
As part of preparations for the system&rsquo;s second phase, Minya Governorate is expected to be among the first areas to implement the programme. The Supreme Committee renewed preliminary accreditation for Minya Oncology Center and granted preliminary accreditation to several hospitals in the governorate, including Samalut Oncology Hospital, El Adwa Central Hospital and Mallawi Liver and Gastroenterology Hospital.
The General Military Hospital in Alexandria, affiliated with the Armed Forces Medical Services, also received preliminary accreditation in accordance with GAHAR standards, reflecting ongoing efforts to strengthen quality and patient safety in healthcare delivery.
Officials say the latest accreditations represent another step in Egypt&rsquo;s broader strategy to standardise healthcare services, improve patient outcomes and prepare facilities for nationwide implementation of the Universal Health Insurance system.

This time, the classic psychological thriller will arrive as a television series set to premiere on June 5, 2026. The upcoming series revisits the chilling story of Max Cady, a dangerous man seeking revenge after serving a long prison sentence. Robert De Niro famously portrayed the character in the 1991 film directed by Martin Scorsese and produced by Steven Spielberg. In the new television adaptation, Javier Bardem will play Max Cady, joined by Amy Adams and Patrick Wilson.
