Acting is about more than stepping into different characters. It is about discovering new places, embracing different cultures and connecting with people through storytelling. For Austrian actress Valerie Pachner, that journey began in a small village in Austria and eventually led her to some of the world's biggest film productions.
Known for her emotionally powerful performances in A Hidden Life, Fantastic Beasts: The Secrets of Dumbledore and the Austrian drama Four Minus Three, Pachner now stars in Stories alongside British-Egyptian actor Amir El-Masry and Egyptian actress Nelly Karim. The romantic drama follows two people from different worlds whose lives become intertwined through handwritten letters, exploring how love can transcend borders. The film also has a personal connection for Pachner, who says she fell in love with Egypt long before joining the project.

In an exclusive interview with NileFM, Pachner spoke about the inspiration behind her acting career, what drew her to Stories, memorable moments from filming in Egypt and the advice that continues to guide her career.
You've built a career across European and international cinema. What first inspired you to become an actress?
I grew up in a small village in the countryside of Austria and, honestly, initially my desire to pursue acting merely came from wanting to escape the narrowness of my village, wanting to meet new people, experience new things and see a different world. Acting offered that to me through workshops in bigger cities, but also through the experience of acting itself. It was a very honest, truthful way to meet people, very deep and personal. At 16, I found that more interesting and exciting than casually hanging out or partying.

What was it about the script for Stories that made you want to be part of the film?
I found the way these two characters fall in love deeply romantic. Through letters! There is something so intimate about sending and receiving a letter, even if it comes from a completely different world. I love how it is slow-paced yet quite intense. I was also very intrigued by the fact that these two overcome the obstacles of coming from two different worlds and how love can cross national borders with ease and certainty. Love doesn't care about borders.
What drew you to your character, and what did you connect with most?
I loved her openness and her adventurous spirit. That was something I could certainly connect with. As an adolescent, after school, I went to Honduras for a year. The occasional acting workshops in the nearest bigger city were not enough. I wanted to go far away, explore the world, travel and meet new cultures. During that time, I also travelled to Egypt and completely fell in love with the culture. This is where Liz and I share a passion: travelling and fully immersing yourself in a new world, whether it is a new country or a new character for a project.

Can you share a memorable behind-the-scenes moment from Stories that audiences might not know about?
When we shot the scene at Vienna's Strudlhofstiege, a famous landmark in the city, Liz and Ahmed (Amir El-Masry) had their picture taken by an older couple passing by. That couple are the real Elisabeth and Ahmed, Abu's parents. That was such a special moment to shoot for all of us.
Another memorable moment came during the wedding scene. My Austrian colleagues and I really did not know what was going to happen. Director Abu Bakr Shawky told our Egyptian colleagues what to do and explained the different wedding rituals, while we were completely clueless, so our surprise, confusion and delight were very real.
What was the biggest challenge in bringing your character to life?
Maybe her unbroken optimism. I find myself more sceptical and realistic, so I struggled a bit at first with how she could be so wildly positive. But over time, this positivity kind of spread into my own being, and that was a very lovely experience.

Your performances often convey so much through silence and subtle expression. How do you approach that as an actor?
I think, for me, dialogue is really the tip of the iceberg. There is so much more going on for a character, a human being, and I start to build that very thoroughly through preparation. I think about how that person holds herself, how she feels in her body, how she moves through a room and what she thinks about first when she wakes up. This allows me to fully immerse myself in the world that is offered on set, and silent moments are not scary but become an even greater place of safety for me, where I can allow the character to just breathe.
You've worked in Austrian, German, British and Hollywood productions. How do those experiences differ, and what has each taught you?
In general, acting is acting and, at its core, there are always very similar experiences on set. The biggest difference is probably on the financial side: how much time there is to shoot and whether it is more like a sprint for arthouse films or a marathon for big studio productions.
You've received several major awards during your career. Have they influenced the roles you choose, or simply reinforced the stories you want to tell?
I never work for awards or festival success. When I am on a project, what matters most to me is the story, what we want to tell, not how we tell it. Even less important is whether people will love it, whether it will go to a festival or whether I will receive an award for it. There is nothing wrong with thinking like that, but I personally don't enjoy approaching my work from that perspective. It is more important to me that I find what is being told important.

What can audiences expect from your upcoming projects?
Currently, I have two films in cinemas: Stories and the Austrian film Four Minus Three, a very emotional story about a woman, and a clown, who loses her family in a car accident. My latest film, I Is Another, with Claes Bang, will have its premiere in the Piazza Grande section at the Locarno Film Festival in August, which I am very excited about.

I would absolutely love to work in Egypt again! I loved being there so much; the people were so lovely. I would return in no time!
Looking back on your career, what's the best advice you've ever received?
Do what you feel is right. If that means saying no to a project because you don't feel it or because you need a break, even if it is a great opportunity, then that is right, and you can trust that feeling.

Another episode of "The Big Drive" with Zeinab and Sami put the spotlight on Egyptian entrepreneurship, featuring Benteiin, the unisex clothing brand founded by sisters Laila and Judy Tamer.
What started as a passion project during the COVID-19 pandemic has grown into a local fashion brand that blends Egyptian culture with modern streetwear. During the interview, co-founder Laila Tamer shared the story behind Benteiin, the challenges the sisters faced and the lessons they learnt while building their business.
A Passion That Became a Business
Before launching Benteiin, Laila worked as a graphic designer with a passion for fashion. She and her sister Judy always enjoyed styling outfits, creating original designs and dreaming of launching their own clothing brand.
The COVID-19 lockdown gave them the opportunity to turn that dream into reality.
"We kept asking ourselves, 'Why not turn our passion into a business?'"
The sisters began learning everything they could about clothing production, content creation and building a fashion brand from the ground up.
The Meaning Behind Benteiin
Laila explained that she and her sister had dreamed of starting a fashion brand since they were teenagers. Inspired by their mother's encouragement to become independent, they decided to take the leap.
What sets Benteiin apart is its blend of contemporary fashion with Egyptian culture.
"I once designed a hoodie inspired by Umm Kulthum," Laila said, highlighting the brand's aim of reimagining Egyptian cultural icons through modern fashion.
From the beginning, the sisters focused on delivering high-quality products at affordable prices without compromising their creative vision.
Overcoming Challenges
One of the biggest challenges was living up to their slogan: "Producing the highest quality at the lowest prices."
Finding reliable suppliers, maintaining product quality and keeping prices affordable proved to be among the most difficult aspects of their journey.
They also faced unexpected challenges with manufacturers, who sometimes changed agreed prices after production had already begun. Like many start-ups, there were periods when they had very few customers.
Despite those setbacks, Laila never lost faith in the brand.
"I always believed in Benteiin," she said, adding that her mother's continued support motivated her to keep producing and moving forward.
Looking back, Laila wishes someone had told her to be more patient.
"I expected success from day one," she admitted. "I've learnt that it's OK to ask for help. You don't have to do everything on your own."
While Laila focuses on designing the collections, Judy manages marketing and customer relations. The sisters laughed as they recalled believing they would become millionaires almost immediately after launching the business.
Instead, they gradually built their audience by sending products to content creators and taking part in pop-up events.
Building a Community Through Storytelling
Rather than simply promoting products, Benteiin focused on telling its story.
Laila explained that social media became an important marketing tool, allowing the sisters to share behind-the-scenes moments, document the brand's journey and involve customers in every milestone.
"When people connect with your story, they trust you," she said. "It's not just about the product; it's about the journey behind it."
Advice for Future Entrepreneurs
Laila encouraged aspiring entrepreneurs not to wait for the perfect moment before launching their ideas.
"Don't wait for the perfect time. If you have an idea, go for it. Create your own opportunities because you'll learn so much throughout the journey."
She also expressed gratitude to her sister Judy for being her partner throughout every stage of building Benteiin.

The story behind the Trojan Horse
Although the Trojan Horse appears only briefly, it remains one of the story's most iconic moments.
According to the production team, Nolan built a full-scale version of the legendary wooden horse rather than relying on CGI. During filming, the massive structure accommodated around 20 performers, cinematographer Hoyte van Hoytema and an IMAX camera to capture scenes from inside the horse.
The original Odyssey poem
Long before it became one of the world's most celebrated literary works, The Odyssey existed as an oral poem passed down through generations in ancient Greece. It is widely believed that Homer composed the epic during the late eighth or early seventh century BCE before it was eventually written down.
The first printed Greek edition appeared in Florence in 1488, while George Chapman's English translation, published in 1616, introduced the story to English-speaking readers.
Nolan's Cinematic Vision
Although Homer's epic has inspired numerous films and television adaptations over the decades, Nolan's version is the first major Hollywood production to adapt all 24 books of &ldquo;The Odyssey.&rdquo;

Instead of relying heavily on green-screen technology, Nolan spent 91 days filming on location across six countries.

Script And Direction
Written by Ayman Wattar, the screenplay gives equal attention to its two central characters. One seeks redemption and a family, while the other struggles with self-confidence and hopes to become the hero his son believes him to be. Their emotional journeys develop alongside one another without either dominating the narrative.
Director Hussein El Minabbawi blends action and comedy with confidence. The action sequences are briskly paced and move through several international locations, while the humour generally arises naturally from the characters rather than feeling forced. Chico's comic timing, particularly in scenes with Entsar, produces some of the film's strongest moments.
Hidden Depth
Although 'Sakr W Canaria' is presented as an action comedy, its emotional core gives it greater substance.
Sakr's story is one of redemption. After years of violence, he longs for a fresh start among people willing to accept him for who he is.
Bilal's journey is equally affecting. His desire to appear courageous, often by exaggerating stories of confronting criminals, stems from a wish to become the kind of father his son can look up to.
Together, their stories explore friendship, second chances, fatherhood and the universal desire to belong.
Verdict
'Sakr W Canaria' offers more than straightforward action-comedy entertainment. It combines humour, action and emotional storytelling while maintaining a lively pace throughout.
Its greatest strength lies in the relationship between Mohamed Emam and Chico, whose performances give the film much of its charm. Although the story follows familiar genre conventions, its focus on friendship, family and personal growth provides enough emotional depth to keep it engaging.
What initially appears to be a conventional action comedy ultimately becomes a story about redemption, responsibility and the people who shape our lives. The contrast between Sakr, determined to leave his past behind, and Bilal, striving to become the hero he imagines, gives the film a sincerity that lingers after the credits roll.

In an exclusive interview with NileFM, Yahya Ismail takes us behind the scenes of "Underage," discusses the research that shaped the series, explains his approach to casting its young stars, and reflects on the realities facing Generation Z. He also addresses the question many fans have been asking: could the hit series &ldquo;Revo&rdquo; return for a third season?
The series &ldquo;Underage&rdquo; tackles several issues affecting young people. What was the main issue you wanted to highlight, and why?
For me, a series is never really about one specific issue. It is about the story. I do not like it when a series is built around a particular social issue. There may be an issue in the background, but ultimately people connect with the story, not the issue itself.
&ldquo;Underage&rdquo; is driven by its narrative. Through that story, the writers; Mohamed Elsoury, Mina Bebawi and Amin Gamal, wanted to bring together many of the situations we hear about involving teenagers, including jealousy, conflicts between girls, teenage pregnancy, differences in social classes and cultures, and the tradition in some rural communities where a young girl marries an older man who takes her to Cairo, promises her a better life and financially supports her family.
These are all separate stories we have heard or read about. The writers wanted to bring them together within one narrative, alongside the story of a girl whose father dies, causing her family&rsquo;s financial situation to deteriorate and forcing her to move to a different school. All these elements were combined into one story.

The series features a large cast of young actors. How did you approach the casting process and match each actor to the right character?
I always cast actors through auditions. Everyone performs two or three scenes so I can understand how they interpret the character.
There were actors I had worked with before, such as Farah Youssef and Ahmed Al Rafeay, so I already knew what they were capable of. Others were completely new to me. In some cases, I wanted audiences to see actors in a different light. For example, I really wanted Amr Wahba to take on a serious role rather than comedy.
Sometimes it simply comes down to instinct. With Ahmed Faheem as the father and Samaa Ibrahim as the mother, I trusted my instincts.
For Jessica Hossam&rsquo;s character, Maryam, I wanted someone who naturally appeared innocent.
For Hana Jayda Mansour&rsquo;s character, I was looking for someone who always tries to do the right thing and carries herself with confidence.
Dalida Joudy Masoud&rsquo;s character needed someone who could express anger and strength despite having an appearance that suggested the opposite.
As for Nahed Reem Al Masry&rsquo;s character, I wanted her to represent the beautiful village girl who marries into a family from a different social class.
Generation Z has its own language and way of thinking. How did you ensure the series portrayed them realistically while making its messages accessible to audiences of all ages?
I believe the series felt very realistic, largely because of the research carried out by the writers. They were committed to understanding this generation and the challenges it faces.
Personally, my children are around that age, so I am already close to this generation. I understand the way they speak and how they view the world, which helped me portray them in a natural and authentic way.

Amr Wahba and Jessica Hossam both played roles very different from what audiences are used to seeing from them. How challenging was it to direct them in those roles?
Casting Amr Wahba was not a challenge for me because I always knew he was capable of doing it. The real challenge was convincing the producers and the platform because they were used to seeing him in comedy. I believed from the beginning that he had the ability, and his audition confirmed that.
As filming progressed, he developed a deeper understanding of the character. At first, he played the police officer as very serious, but after a few days of filming, he realised the character could also have a lighter and more approachable side.
With Jessica, I wanted every look she gave the camera to feel as though she was discovering the world for the first time through her innocent perspective. That innocence was central to her character.
Since the series premiered, what audience reaction made you feel you had achieved your goal?
The comment I received most often was that every girl in the series felt like a unique individual, with her own family, background and personality. That made me feel the effort we put into developing the characters had paid off.
Was there a particular scene that required exceptional time or effort to achieve the final result?
Honestly, almost every scene is difficult to film in Egypt. The weather is extremely hot, and shooting days are physically demanding.
The bathroom fight scene was especially challenging. It was an exhausting day for everyone involved, and Hana (Jayda) had a particularly difficult time filming it. It was definitely one of the hardest days on set.
Working on this series must have brought you closer to the realities and challenges facing today&rsquo;s generation. Did the experience change your perspective on any issues?
It definitely brought me closer to this generation. I realised how much pressure they live under. They grew up with social media and the promise of instant fame, with constant pressure to be visible and attract attention.
Some feel they have to keep pushing themselves to become successful or famous, while others seem completely disconnected from that race. Overall, I think this generation faces enormous pressure because the future feels uncertain.
Everything changes so quickly. Today, artificial intelligence is transforming industries, and many young people no longer feel confident about what the future holds. They are learning how to adapt to constant change, whereas my generation grew up believing life was much more stable.

You recently appeared in a photo with Riham Hagag and Ahmed Mekky. Does the photo hint at a new project together? What are your upcoming plans?
Half the story behind that photo was work-related. I met Riham after &ldquo;Tawabea&rdquo; during Ramadan so we could discuss what worked, what did not, the mistakes we made and what we could improve in future projects.
Meeting Ahmed Mekky happened by coincidence. Riham introduced us, so the photo with him was not connected to any project.

&ldquo;Revo&rdquo; continues to enjoy great popularity. Are there plans for a third season, or do you feel the story has reached its conclusion?
At the moment, there have been no discussions about a third season of "Revo." The writer, Mohamed Nayer, and I have occasionally thought about how the story could continue, but ultimately those decisions depend on the production side.
So far, no production company has expressed interest in developing a third season. I have always believed &ldquo;Revo&rdquo; had the potential to grow beyond a television series into a larger brand, with live music events and concerts, but nothing has been confirmed yet.

What began as a love of house music gradually evolved into a lifelong passion. Hours spent discovering new sounds eventually led to performances in different cities, unforgettable nights behind the decks, and an ongoing journey of growth as both a DJ and producer.
NileFM interviewed Rev about the experiences that shaped his career, the challenges he faced while establishing himself in the industry, and the creative process behind crafting a memorable set. He also shares insights into balancing music production with live performances, staying true to his artistic identity while adapting to different audiences, and reflects on his DJ of the Week set.
Tell Us About Your Background And Where Your Journey Began. I started DJing around 2010. It all began with a real passion for music, especially house music, and over time it became more serious, as I started performing and exploring the scene.

It wasn&rsquo;t really one specific moment; it was more of a gradual feeling. The more I played and spent time around music, the more I realized this is what I truly enjoy doing and want to keep developing. You are well-known for immersing yourself in different cultures during your travels. How do these global experiences translate into your sound and performance curation? Honestly, I don&rsquo;t focus on specific places when it comes to influencing my sound. I travel mainly for enjoyment, and every place has its own vibe. I think that variety in atmosphere naturally reflects in how I feel and play music. When constructing a new set, what is the core narrative or emotional experience you want to deliver to the dance floor? I like to take people on a journey. I usually start with a warm and deep vibe, build the energy gradually, and then bring it back smoothly at the end. I focus more on feeling and flow rather than a fixed structure.

Like any artist, consistency and finding the right opportunities were not always easy. It takes time to grow, learn, and stay motivated. Balancing the roles of both producer and DJ can be intricate. How do you test a track&rsquo;s efficacy, and what determines whether it makes the cut for a live set? I started producing house music as well, and when I test a track, it&rsquo;s all about how it feels in a set. If it works smoothly in transitions and creates the right energy, it makes the cut. Can you give us a preview of what listeners can expect from your upcoming appearance as NileFM&rsquo;s DJ of the Week? They can expect a smooth journey with deep and groovy house vibes, starting warm, building energy, and keeping a natural flow throughout the set. Is there a particular performance that stands out as a defining moment in your career? What is the story behind it? I played back in 2010 in Little Buddha Club in Hurghada, and also had gigs in Jordan and a private event. Those early experiences were really important for me and helped shape my path. How do you maintain your signature artistic identity while remaining adaptable to diverse crowds and venues globally? I stay true to my sound, but I always read the crowd. It&rsquo;s about balancing your own identity with the energy in the room. Finally, what crucial advice would you offer to aspiring DJs looking to break into the industry and carve out their own path? My advice is to stay consistent, keep learning, and focus on your own taste instead of following trends. Passion and patience make a big difference.

Exclusive | DJ Rev Reveals His Journey From House Music Fan To DJ And Producer

Never stop dreaming. In 2023, The Ghetto Kids participated in Britain&rsquo;s Got Talent, dancing to &ldquo;Waka Waka&rdquo; by Shakira, and won the Golden Buzzer. In 2026, they returned, but this time alongside their idol Shakira, dancing with her in the official video for the World Cup song &ldquo;Dai Dai.&rdquo; Additionally, the Ghetto Kids are preparing for the performance of a lifetime, showing off their moves alongside the Colombian superstar at the World Cup Final halftime show on 19 July 2026.
NileFM spoke exclusively with Ghetto Kids founder Dauda Kavuma about their dream coming true, what&rsquo;s coming next, and the inspiring journey behind the group.

The Ghetto Kids, formerly known as Triplets Ghetto Kids, are an internationally acclaimed music and dance group from the Katwe slums in Kampala, Uganda. Founded in 2014 by dance teacher Dauda Kavuma, the group is composed of orphaned and vulnerable children who use the performing arts to improve their lives and fund their education.
Take us back to the beginning. How did the idea for Ghetto Kids start, and how many children are currently part of the group? We started in 2014. Ghetto Kids is an NGO inspired by Triple S. The group comprises orphaned, vulnerable, and less privileged children. We all live under one roof at our foundation home. There are currently 60 children aged between three and 18. We use music and drama to build a better life by providing education, shelter, food, healthcare, and clothing.

After your video asking Shakira to perform with you went viral, how did you receive the news that she had accepted? What was your reaction? We felt so excited. It was unbelievable; we genuinely did not see it coming. One of the kids, Akram, saw the update on Instagram and immediately showed it to the others. They were so happy, jumping up and down and crying tears of pure joy.

Your dance videos consistently impress millions of viewers. On average, how long does it take to create and perfect a dance routine before filming? Usually, it does not take much time at all. Once we receive a song, either I or our social media manager will play it for the kids. They listen, and within a few minutes, everyone comes up with their own dance moves. We do not typically teach them rigid choreography; they create the movements themselves. Sometimes we do not even rehearse; we just go on set and shoot organically.

After &ldquo;Dai Dai&rdquo; became a huge success, you started creating dance videos inspired by different countries and cultures. What were the biggest challenges in adapting to so many different dance styles? There were not really any major challenges. We adapt quite easily. We have produced videos inspired by various international tracks, like "ODG" by a Nigerian artist, and others. The process has always been incredibly smooth for us.
From receiving the Golden Buzzer on Britain&rsquo;s Got Talent to performing on one of the world&rsquo;s biggest stages, the FIFA World Cup, how has this incredible journey shaped you both personally and professionally? I feel immensely blessed to have performed to &ldquo;Waka Waka,&rdquo; and to now transition from that into the official World Cup. It feels like a blessing from God. Professionally, our previous appearance was a competitive performance, but now we get to perform on global stages without being judged. We simply express who we are.
With so many children living, training, and performing together, how do you maintain teamwork and harmony? And when planning a new video, how do you decide which ideas to bring to life? Most of the time, we collaborate directly with the children, which is exactly how we maintain that harmony. We do not just make decisions on our own; we discuss ideas, listen to their thoughts, and create something meaningful together. That shared teamwork is what keeps us moving forward.
When planning a video, our ultimate focus is on capturing happiness and joy. We always aim for something organic and natural because we never want it to feel forced or fake.

The Ghetto journey is constantly progressing and moving forward. We have achieved milestones we never imagined could be real. This entire experience has been completely life-changing.

Ukrainian DJ and producer Deva Vicci has broken through those barriers, building a reputation for delivering energetic performances that surprise audiences wherever she plays. Inspired by Ukraine&rsquo;s vibrant electronic music scene, Deva Vicci began her musical journey at the age of 13. Since then, she has transformed her passion for music into an international career, performing for crowds in different countries and connecting with audiences through her signature melodic techno sound. Drawing inspiration from the cultures and people she encounters around the world, Deva adapts her sets to different audiences while maintaining her unique artistic identity. She has also developed a special connection with Egypt, describing its crowds as some of the most passionate music lovers she has encountered. Now, she joins NileFM as DJ of the Week with an exclusive one-hour mix. In this exclusive interview with NileFM, Deva Vicci opens up about her musical beginnings, the challenges of being a female artist in electronic music, her love for Egypt, upcoming releases, and what lies ahead in her growing international career. As a Ukrainian DJ and producer, how has your heritage and cultural background shaped your musical identity and your journey behind the decks? Music has been a part of my life from a very young age. I started taking vocal lessons when I was 13, and through music I discovered my passion for creativity and self-expression. Later, I explored other artistic sides of myself through dance, which I practised for several years. Both singing and dancing helped me develop a deeper understanding of rhythm, emotion, and performance. Over time, I realised that I simply cannot imagine my life without music. It inspires me every day, motivates me to grow, and gives me a way to connect with people on a deeper level. Music is not just my profession or my hobby; it is a part of who I am and an essential part of my life. In general, Ukraine has an incredibly strong electronic music scene and has given the world many talented artists such as ARTBAT, Korolova, and Miss Monique. Seeing their success on the international stage has been inspiring, and it makes me feel proud to be part of the same generation of Ukrainian electronic artists. Sometimes I joke that electronic music is simply in our blood.

For me, it wasn't one specific moment. It was more about listening to my heart and exploring different styles of music until I found the one that truly resonated with me. I was searching for a sound that could reflect my emotions, energy, and personality. Over time, I discovered melodic techno, and everything simply clicked. The combination of powerful rhythms, deep melodies, and emotional storytelling felt completely natural to me. That's when I realised I had found my musical home. Melodic techno inspires me, allows me to express myself freely, and gives me the opportunity to take listeners on an emotional journey. It wasn't a sudden decision; it was a path that led me to my true calling. Breaking through in the electronic music industry comes with its challenges. As a female artist, what obstacles did you face early on, and how did you overcome them? One of the biggest challenges was that not everyone took female DJs seriously. Very often, people would first see you as an image rather than as an artist or musician. In those moments, it can be difficult because there is often more pressure, more criticism, and a greater need to prove yourself. I felt that I had to work harder to demonstrate my skills, musical knowledge, and professionalism in order to be recognised for what I do rather than how I look. However, instead of letting that discourage me, I used it as motivation. I focused on improving my craft, developing my own sound, and building genuine connections with people through music. Today, I'm proud to be part of a growing generation of female artists who are proving that talent, dedication, and passion are what truly matter behind the decks.

What is your most cherished memory or standout experience from your time visiting the country? One of the things I love most about Egypt is its incredible energy and passion for electronic music. The people there truly know how to party, and the electronic music scene is full of talented DJs, producers, and music lovers. Every time I visited, I could feel how deeply connected people are to music and how much they appreciate the experience of dancing together. Unfortunately, I haven't had the chance to fully explore Egypt's cultural landmarks and historical sites yet. Most of my trips were focused on events, and my schedule was usually very tight. I would arrive for a performance and then head straight back to the airport. However, Egypt remains one of the countries I would love to discover more deeply in the future. I'm also very excited about an upcoming collaboration with Egyptian artist Seidy. Our track, "Wake Up," will be released on 26 July via Termeni Records. I'm incredibly proud to be part of this collaboration, as it represents a beautiful connection between artists from different countries who share the same passion for music. Projects like this remind me that music truly has no borders.

What made that night so unique? Yes, without a doubt, one of the most memorable moments of my career was my first tour in India in 2024. I performed at a venue called RAEETH in Goa, India, and it was both the most exciting and the most emotional performance I had experienced at that point in my journey. I was nervous before stepping on stage, but the way the crowd welcomed me was incredible. The energy they gave back, the way they danced, smiled, and connected with the music is something I will never forget. It felt like we were all sharing the same moment and speaking the same language through music. That night was special because it reminded me why I chose this path. The connection between an artist and the audience is something truly magical, and I felt it more strongly than ever during that set. In many ways, that performance became a turning point for me. After that show, I started building my own community in India, and I'm incredibly grateful for all the love and support I continue to receive there. India will always hold a very special place in my heart. Having played to crowds across the globe, how do you bridge the gap between different cultures, and how do these global travels influence the music you select? To be honest, I never prepare my sets in advance. One of the things I love most about DJing is the freedom to improvise and connect with the crowd in real time. You never truly know what the audience wants until you're standing in front of them. Every crowd has a different energy, mood, and musical preference. What works perfectly in one country might be completely different in another. I've learned through my travels that different cultures often respond to different tempos, grooves, and BPM ranges. Some crowds love deeper and more melodic moments, while others want higher energy and faster rhythms. That's what makes performing around the world so exciting. I think that's the beauty of electronic music: no matter where you are in the world, music creates a universal connection between people. As NileFM's featured DJ of the Week, what can listeners expect from the exclusive set you have prepared for us? First of all, thank you for the opportunity to be your guest on NileFM. It is a great honour for me to be featured as your DJ of the Week and to have the chance to share my music, as well as express myself both as a DJ and a producer. But that's exactly what I love about it. I enjoy surprising people. Beneath the soft image is a deep passion for strong melodies, hypnotic rhythms, and powerful energy. When I play, I completely surrender to the music. I stop thinking and simply follow the feeling. I hope that the audience does the same, forgetting about everything else and getting lost in the journey with me. For me, electronic music is freedom, emotion, and connection. That's the experience I try to create every time I step behind the decks. What crucial piece of advice would you offer to inspiring young female artists and producers looking to break into the industry today? My advice would be simple: if you truly feel that calling inside of you, just start. Don't wait for the perfect moment, and don't look for shortcuts. The music industry is not an easy path. It's a very competitive and challenging business, and you have to be prepared for rejection. There will be moments when people say no, when opportunities don't work out, and when progress feels slower than you hoped. But never give up. Every setback is a lesson, and every challenge helps you grow stronger. Keep improving your skills, keep learning, and keep investing in your craft. At the same time, don't become so focused on the destination that you forget to enjoy the journey. Some of the most beautiful moments happen while you're still building your career and discovering who you are as an artist. Stay patient, stay focused, trust yourself, and keep moving forward. If your passion is real and you're willing to put in the work, everything will eventually fall into place.

Egypt holds a special place in my heart, and it would mean a lot to bring my music back there and share that experience with the incredible Egyptian crowd once again. The future is looking very exciting, and I'm grateful for every opportunity to continue growing, travelling, and sharing my music with people around the world. On the music side, my upcoming solo release, "Distraction," will be released on 10 July via Area Verde. It's a track I'm very proud of, and I can't wait for people to hear it. Egyptian DJ and producer Philippe El Sisi joined Nancy on Let's Dance, airing every Monday from 7pm to 8pm, to reflect on his two-decade career, his rise on the international trance scene, the role of artificial intelligence (AI) in music production and what fans can expect next.
Widely known as the "Anthem Guy", Philippe has established himself as one of the leading artists in the Future Sound of Egypt (FSOE) family, with five official FSOE anthems to his name. His euphoric productions have become staples of the global progressive and trance scene, while his performances continue to attract audiences around the world.
Throughout his career, Philippe has performed in Argentina, Australia, the United States and clubs across Europe and Asia. He has also appeared at some of the world's biggest electronic music events, including Tomorrowland, Romania's Untold Festival, Zurich's Street Parade, Future Sound of Egypt at the Great Pyramids of Giza and Shine Ibiza, where he performed alongside artists including Above &amp; Beyond and Paul van Dyk.
As a producer, Philippe has also earned widespread recognition, with ten of his tracks selected as Future Favorites on Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance, cementing his reputation as one of Egypt's leading trance producers.
A Journey That Started at Five
Philippe revealed that his passion for music began at an early age.
"My musical journey began more than twenty years ago. When I was five years old, I started playing the piano by ear. Whenever I heard a melody, I could play it."
As he grew older, he developed a passion for electronic dance music, inspired by artists including Paul Oakenfold, Paul van Dyk, Armin van Buuren and Egyptian trance duo Aly &amp; Fila.
He recalled attending rave events with friends before Aly Fathallah of Aly &amp; Fila encouraged him to start producing music, leading to his first official release in 2006.
Support From Trance Legends
One of Philippe's biggest career milestones came in 2007 when his music was featured on Armin van Buuren's A State of Trance during the show's early years.
He recalled Armin introducing him as "the rising star from Egypt", describing the moment as a turning point that helped launch his international career.
Philippe explained that being featured on globally recognised radio shows such as A State of Trance and Paul van Dyk's radio programme introduced his music to millions of listeners and significantly expanded his international fanbase.
A Lifelong Friendship With Aly &amp; Fila
Philippe also spoke about his long-standing friendship with Egyptian trance icons Aly &amp; Fila.
"We've known each other since school," he said, adding that they began collaborating around 2009.
Among their best-known collaborations is Count on Me, featuring vocalist Jaren Cerf. Released during the COVID-19 pandemic, the track spent three weeks at No. 1 on Beatport and became one of the year's biggest trance releases, finishing as the second-highest-ranked trance track on Armin van Buuren's annual A State of Trance Top 20.
Working With Elissa
Beyond electronic music, Philippe has also worked with Lebanese superstar Elissa.
He produced multiple songs for the singer and created remixes for her performances at Saudi Arabia's MDLBEAST festival, where she performed updated versions of her classic hits that quickly gained widespread attention online.
The Power of Believing in Yourself
Asked about confidence and perseverance, Philippe said success begins with self-belief and persistence.
"If you believe in yourself, you can do it," he said. "I don't think I'm a genius. I just trusted the process and kept believing in what I wanted to achieve."
Performing Around the World
Philippe's first international performance came in 2009 during a mini tour of Argentina, where he performed in Buenos Aires and Rosario.
Since then, he has performed for audiences across the globe and says one of the most rewarding experiences is seeing people connect emotionally with his music, even without lyrics.
AI Is a Tool, Not a Replacement
Discussing artificial intelligence, Philippe emphasised that he views AI as a creative assistant rather than a replacement for musicians.
He said he would never rely on AI to generate an entire song but uses it to streamline certain stages of production, including vocal processing and workflow improvements.
"Creating an album used to take around six months," he explained. "With AI tools, it can now take around three weeks. But I still create the melodies, drums and the entire track myself. AI simply helps speed up parts of the production process."
Favourite Festivals
Among the many festivals he has performed at, Philippe highlighted three as his favourites.
Street Parade in Zurich remains one of his most memorable experiences, where he performed on a truck in front of more than one million people and appeared on Swiss national television in 2019.
He also named Tomorrowland as one of the festivals he hopes to return to and praised Romania's Untold Festival as another unforgettable experience.
What's Next?
Looking ahead, Philippe revealed that he is focusing on expanding his live performances.
His first full live performance took place in Kuala Lumpur in May, marking a new chapter in his career.
"It's more challenging than DJing, but I love it," he said.
He also confirmed that several collaborations are currently in development, including projects with E-Dash, Mina and other artists.
Advice for Young Artists
Philippe encouraged aspiring musicians to protect both their hearing and their dreams.
He stressed the importance of wearing ear protection during performances and reminded artists to prioritise their health despite working in loud environments.
For newcomers hoping to break into the music industry, he believes independent releases have made it easier than ever for emerging artists to build an audience without waiting for major record labels.
Rather than relying solely on established labels, Philippe encouraged young producers to release their own music, develop their audience and trust the process.
"Believe in yourself, don't quit, stay consistent and have faith in God," he said. "There will always be obstacles, but if you keep going, you'll get where you want to be."

Persistence Without Burning Bridges For Kerolos, persistence is one of the most valuable qualities anyone can develop, but only when it's done with respect. "I never try to be pushy in a negative way because the world is small," he explained. Whether he's trying to secure a guest or build a new business relationship, he believes persistence should never damage future opportunities. "If it's somebody I really admire and want to work with, I'll find another way to reach them. If someone is ignoring you, get to the point where they can't avoid you, but do it respectfully." Why Sending the First Message Doesn't Scare Him Unlike many people who hesitate before reaching out to someone successful, Kerolos says fear has never stopped him. "I never get scared of reaching out to anybody because there will always be another person." To him, rejection is simply part of the process rather than something to avoid. The Biggest Mistake Young People Make According to Kerolos, one of the biggest mistakes he sees is approaching opportunities with a sense of entitlement. "A lot of people ask for opportunities expecting to get something immediately," he said. While he's happy to help others, he believes opportunities must be matched by effort. "People who feel entitled rarely put in the work. Entitlement at a young age is a recipe for disaster." He added that many experienced entrepreneurs avoid working with people who believe success should simply be handed to them. Convincing High-Profile Guests to Say Yes One of the questions Kerolos receives most often is how he convinces influential entrepreneurs to appear in his videos. His answer is surprisingly simple. Many of the successful people he interviews aren't interested in publicity at all. "I actually love interviewing people who don't like publicity." Instead of focusing on exposure, he approaches them by explaining how their stories can provide value to others, support charitable initiatives, or inspire future entrepreneurs. "It's never about making them famous. They don't need that." Confidence Comes From Repetition For Kerolos, confidence isn't something people are born with, it develops through repetition. "I believe in reps." Before creating content, he spent years working with hospitality business owners in the United States, an experience that taught him how to deal with rejection. "They were probably the most ruthless when it came to saying no." By the time he began filming content in South Africa, approaching strangers felt far less intimidating. However, he believes confidence and repetition work together. "You have to believe in yourself enough to start, and then the reps build the confidence." The Biggest Myths About Successful People Kerolos believes people often misunderstand what success looks like. Many assume successful people possess extraordinary abilities, when in reality they're often ordinary people who have simply spent years mastering their craft. "They just have more experience than you." He also challenged another common misconception, that wealthy people are inherently selfish. "A lot of successful people genuinely want to provide value because they're passionate about what they do." Whether building businesses, creating television, or developing real estate, he believes many successful entrepreneurs simply turned the passions they had as children into lifelong careers. The Craziest Way He Landed a Collaboration Persistence paid off in one unforgettable experience while filming in South Africa. After being rejected five separate times by a potential guest, Kerolos came up with an unconventional solution. He convinced people around the executive to schedule what appeared to be a professional meeting, giving him the opportunity to finally speak with the businessman face-to-face. After a 30-minute conversation, the executive agreed to meet him again the following morning. The experience reinforced Kerolos' belief that persistence often succeeds when paired with creativity and respect. The One Person He'd Love to Meet If given the opportunity to interview anyone, Kerolos doesn't hesitate. "The Lebanese singer Fairuz." Calling her a legend, he says she's someone he's admired for years. Advice to His Younger Self Looking back, Kerolos wishes he had started even earlier. "Make the mistakes early." He believes the teenage years are the perfect time to experiment, fail, and gain experience before adulthood brings greater responsibilities. "Don't wait until you graduate. Start while you're still in school." "Less is more." He recalled a director encouraging him to stop trying so hard to perform. "She told me, 'The best actors don't look like they're acting.' That really stayed with me. Every performance now is about stripping everything back and keeping it as natural as possible." Rejection Is Part of the Journey Despite his success, El Sayed admitted rejection remains one of the hardest realities of acting. "I've had countless rejections," he said. "After my first film and award nomination, I thought everything would just keep getting bigger. It didn't." One of the most painful moments of his career came when he was cast in what he believed would be his dream project, a role connected to Black Adam during the COVID-19 pandemic. Everything had been approved, including his passport application and visa process, before circumstances beyond his control changed everything. "Two days before I was supposed to fly, my agent called and said they had to cast someone from America because the US Embassy wasn't processing visas." The news left him devastated. "I felt like my dream had been taken away." The disappointment affected him so deeply that he struggled to audition for weeks. However, shortly afterward, an opportunity arrived that reminded him why perseverance matters. An audition for Gangs of London landed in his inbox, eventually leading to one of the most significant roles of his career. Choosing Roles That Matter As his career has evolved, El Sayed says he has become increasingly selective about the characters he portrays. "In the beginning, you take the opportunities you can get," he explained. Now, however, he prefers roles that challenge stereotypes and allow him to tell meaningful stories instead of repeating familiar character types. Egypt is set to experience a rise in temperatures across the country, with Cairo expected to reach a high of 38C on Tuesday, 21 July 2026. The weather will be extremely hot and humid during the day across most regions, while parts of the northern coast will experience hot and humid conditions, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA).
Warm and humid conditions are also expected at night and during the early morning across most areas.
Winds are forecast to strengthen at times, reaching speeds of 30-35 km/h across much of the country. They are expected to help ease temperatures slightly during the evening and overnight in exposed areas.
The EMA also warned of the possibility of dust and sandstorms at times in parts of the Red Sea Governorate.
Along the Mediterranean coast, including Salloum, Marsa Matrouh, El Alamein, Alexandria and Baltim, winds are expected to strengthen, with wave heights of 1.5-2 metres.
Meanwhile, there is a slight chance of low cloud developing over parts of the northern coast, the Nile Delta, Greater Cairo and the Suez Canal cities. The clouds could bring isolated patches of light drizzle, although no significant impacts are expected.

Egyptian composer and music arranger Hany Shenouda has died at the age of 83, leaving behind an influential artistic legacy that shaped generations of Arab musicians and singers.
According to the Musicians Syndicate, Shenouda was mourned by the syndicate's president and council members following what it described as an exceptional artistic career. The syndicate said he enriched musical life in Egypt and across the Arab world through his compositions, arrangements and support for emerging talent. It described him as one of the pioneers of modern Arabic music, saying his contributions left a lasting mark on the region's artistic scene.
In its statement, the syndicate described Shenouda as "a symbol of generosity and creativity" and said his artistic legacy would live on through works that enriched Egyptian and Arab culture. It also extended its condolences to his family, fellow artists, musicians and fans across the Arab world.
A Pioneer of Modern Arabic Music
Born in Tanta in 1943, Hany Shenouda graduated from the Faculty of Music Education in 1966 before continuing his studies at the Higher Institute for Music (Conservatoire).
In 1977, he founded El-Masryeen, one of Egypt's earliest modern music ensembles. The original lineup included Mona Aziz, Tahseen Yalmaz, Eman Younis, and Mamdouh Qasem. The group later became one of the most influential bands in Egypt during the late 1970s and 1980s.
Among El-Masryeen's most famous songs were "Mathsebosh Ya Banat" (Don't Think That, Girls) and "Mashya El-Sanyora" (The Princess Is Walking), both of which became classics of modern Egyptian music.
Discovering Egypt's Biggest Stars
Shenouda was not only a composer and arranger but also a talent scout who helped launch the careers of some of Egypt's most celebrated artists.
He played a key role in shaping Mohamed Mounir's early career by composing albums such as "A'lemony Eineky" (Your Eyes Taught Me) and "Benetweled" (We Are Born), works that contributed to Mounir's distinctive musical identity.
He also discovered Amr Diab during a concert in Port Said. Shenouda encouraged the young singer to move to Cairo and study music, introduced him to the public through the album "Ya Tareeq," composed four songs for the album, and arranged the entire project. He further connected Diab with prominent poets and composers, including Salah Jaheen, Abdel Rahim Mansour, Shawqi Hijab, and Aziz Al-Nasser.
His Final Musical Project
Before his passing, Shenouda revisited one of his classic compositions, "Bahlam Ma'ak," originally performed by the legendary singer Najat.
He presented a new version featuring rapper Ziad Zaza and rising singer Tina, continuing his lifelong mission of reviving classic Arabic songs and introducing them to younger generations through a contemporary musical approach.
A Legacy That Will Endure
For more than five decades, Hany Shenouda helped redefine Arabic music through innovation, bold experimentation, and his unwavering support for emerging talent. Winds of 30 to 35km/h are expected at times across parts of Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta, South Sinai and Upper Egypt, helping to ease the feeling of humidity during the evening.

Focus on Major Roads
Authorities say priority has been given to major routes, including the coastal road between Damietta and Matrouh, the Cairo-Alexandria desert road, the agricultural road, as well as routes in South Sinai, the Red Sea, and Upper Egypt.
More than 600 fixed and mobile ambulance points have been deployed along these roads to allow rapid response to accidents.
Hospital Preparedness
Hospitals have also increased capacity in emergency and intensive care units. Around 250 facilities have been designated as primary referral centres on highways, supported by 54 rapid response teams for large-scale incidents.
Blood banks have been supplied with an additional 40,000 units, and medical stocks have been reinforced to meet potential demand.
Public Health Measures
The preventive medicine sector has intensified inspections of more than 35,000 food outlets, including sweet shops, restaurants, hotels, parks, and public transport hubs.
Around 1,200 inspection teams have been deployed to monitor compliance with health and safety standards.
Monitoring and Public Guidance
A central operations room will operate круглосуточно to monitor implementation of the plan.
The ministry has also urged the public to follow health guidelines, with the hotline 137 available for medical enquiries and emergency assistance throughout the Eid holiday.

Egypt Rolls Out Nationwide Health and Ambulance Plan for Eid

Nesma Mostafa, Head of MENA Higher Education Insights and Student Mobility at the British Council, joined Rob and Sally on &ldquo;The Big Fast&rdquo; this Tuesday to discuss the evolving landscape of higher education in Egypt and the MENA region. Airing from 8 to 10 AM, the conversation explored international collaboration, student mobility, and the benefits of transnational education for learners seeking global opportunities without leaving home.
Defining Herself as an Educator
Nesma shared her personal perspective on her role: &ldquo;So I&rsquo;m at the British Council, but how I define myself is as an educator, an education researcher. I&rsquo;ve been working in higher education for 15 years, which technically means research around higher education opportunities within the region, with the aim of informing the UK sector of these opportunities and then bridging, making connections, and building these relationships between the UK, Egypt, and beyond.&rdquo;
When asked why education is such a passion, she said, &ldquo;I&rsquo;ve always been a lifelong learner. Education is at the core of development, supporting people to find what they&rsquo;re meant to do and helping nations meet their goals. Knowledge is power, regardless of where it comes from.&rdquo;
What is Transnational Education?
The discussion then turned to transnational education (TNE). Nesma explained: &ldquo;Transnational education is when a university in one country offers a programme or a degree in another country, physically moving to meet students where they are. Instead of Egyptian students travelling to get a degree in the UK, the UK institution comes to Egypt and delivers that in-country through different models.&rdquo;
She highlighted the accessibility of this model: &ldquo;This increases access to international education for students who can&rsquo;t travel for personal, family, or financial reasons. You get the benefits of an international degree without ever having to leave home.&rdquo;
Models of Transnational Education
On international branch campuses: &ldquo;This is one of the independent models of transnational education where a university expands to a new country, offering the same programmes and teaching methods, and bringing its expertise into a new context. Students graduate with one international degree that is very similar to what they would receive if they studied abroad.&rdquo;
On joint degrees: &ldquo;Joint degrees are when two universities come together to develop a programme. You have international expertise alongside local knowledge, creating something relevant to students and their context. It&rsquo;s co-created, combining the strengths of both institutions into one degree accredited by both.&rdquo;
On digital learning: &ldquo;This could be fully online learning, where you&rsquo;re in Egypt studying at a university abroad, which is still transnational education. There are also blended models combining online and face-to-face learning, usually involving a local partner and an international partner. The international side may develop the virtual learning environment and resources, while local expertise ensures the content is contextualised. Exams, for example, may take place in Egypt, even if systems are hosted abroad.&rdquo;
Why Egypt is a Key Destination
Egypt has become the fourth-largest host country globally for UK transnational education programmes, with around 38,000 students enrolled. Nesma explained the appeal: &ldquo;Egypt has 3.8 million students in higher education, expected to grow to 5 million by 2030. There&rsquo;s strong demand, and universities in Egypt are keen to partner with international counterparts. Students trust UK institutions, and government strategies highlight internationalisation as a priority.&rdquo;
The Benefits for Students
The advantages extend beyond studying locally. Nesma highlighted global recognition and employability: &ldquo;You get a degree that can be used anywhere in the world without needing revalidation. Students also develop critical thinking, leadership, communication, and intercultural skills that are highly valued by employers.&rdquo;
She also emphasised the British Council&rsquo;s role: &ldquo;We work with governments, institutions, and learners. We help ensure supportive regulations, bring stakeholders together through networking, and guide students on accessing opportunities. Everything we do is research-driven to continuously improve partnerships.&rdquo;
Regional Collaboration through Deep Dialogues
Nesma discussed the recent regional Deep Dialogue in Cairo: &ldquo;Participants from 11 countries came together to learn from different models of transnational education. Mature ecosystems like Egypt shared insights with countries still developing their frameworks. We discussed regulation, quality assurance, and engaged directly with students to understand their experiences.&rdquo;
She added, &ldquo;These dialogues build a community of practice. Connections continue beyond the event, creating sustainable networks that support education across the region.&rdquo;
Looking Ahead
Nesma concluded with a forward-looking perspective: &ldquo;Successful models in more developed systems can help guide countries in earlier stages. At its core, this is about improving education, expanding opportunities, and empowering students to reach their potential while contributing to society. The British Council plays a key role in building the connections, understanding, and trust needed to make this ecosystem sustainable.&rdquo;

Egypt&rsquo;s Minister of Health and Population, Khaled Abdel Ghaffar, has praised the humanitarian and medical achievements of the Magdi Yacoub Heart Foundation, highlighting its role in supporting the country&rsquo;s healthcare system and saving thousands of lives.
Speaking on behalf of Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly, Abdel Ghaffar emphasized the importance of partnerships between the government and civil society organizations in strengthening healthcare services across Egypt.

He described renowned heart surgeon Magdi Yacoub as a global example of dedication and humanitarian commitment, embodying the spirit of a &ldquo;humanitarian doctor.&rdquo;
