What started with curiosity quickly became a career for DJ Moti, who first wanted to discover the world of DJing and, just two years later, has turned that curiosity into a passion.
With a growing presence in Egypt&rsquo;s electronic music scene, Moti continues to explore her sound while encouraging more women to pursue careers behind the decks.
This week on NileFM&rsquo;s &ldquo;DJ of the Week,&rdquo; Moti will take listeners through a fresh one-hour set, with a few surprises along the way. Tune in at 10:00 PM to hear more.
NileFM dives deeper behind the decks with Moti to explore her journey as a female DJ, the challenges she has faced in the industry, her evolving sound, and her upcoming performance alongside Danish DJ Morten during his first-ever performance in Egypt.
Take us behind your journey. What made you decide to become a DJ?
Honestly, it all happened quite spontaneously. A little over two years ago, I asked a friend to teach me how to DJ. But my interest in DJing actually started much earlier, back in 2018, because I had DJs, producers, and party organizers in my close circle.
I decided to actually learn how to DJ simply because I became curious about how everything works and wanted to experience it for myself, what it feels like to be on stage and play music for people.

How would you describe your sound and the atmosphere you want to create when you perform?
When it comes to my sound, I don&rsquo;t think I have one exact answer yet. I started DJing relatively recently, so I&rsquo;m still figuring it out and exploring what feels right for me. I used to play mostly Afro House, but lately I&rsquo;ve been playing more Indie Dance, and I&rsquo;m really enjoying this direction.
And talking about the atmosphere, I know exactly what I want to create. I want people to have a really good time, enjoy the sound, and feel free to dance. I love watching people on the dance floor, and honestly, seeing people smile while I&rsquo;m playing is one of the best feelings for me.
What changes have you seen in the DJ industry since you first started?
From what I&rsquo;ve seen myself, and also from what I hear from other DJs and people in the scene, the industry has definitely been evolving. There are more DJs, more events, and more opportunities for new artists to get exposure, especially through social media.
What's also important, social media and content have also become a big part of the industry, how you present yourself and connect with people online.
What challenges have you faced in the industry?
One of the things I found challenging was having little to no sleep between shows, it gets exhausting over time, especially when I have to move between cities for each show.
What do you still want to achieve as a DJ?
Honestly, there&rsquo;s still so much I want to achieve, but let&rsquo;s start with playing outside of Egypt.
You have performed at major venues and festivals, including in front of the Pyramids. How has performing at such an iconic location influenced or inspired your music?
It&rsquo;s honestly such an honor for me to perform at places like these and at such major festivals. Playing in front of the Pyramids is something that still feels surreal, like sometimes, while I&rsquo;m in the middle of my set, I look behind me and it&rsquo;s hard to believe that the Pyramids are actually right there.
To be honest, performing in a place like that comes with a certain sense of responsibility. I usually spend much more time working on my playlist and preparing for the set, because I feel like being surrounded by so much history and energy makes me think more carefully about what I want to play.

You&rsquo;ll be joining Morten for his first-ever performance in Egypt. What does it mean to be part of this special night?
For me, it&rsquo;s a real honor to be part of the night, especially knowing that this will be Morten&rsquo;s first ever show in Egypt. It makes the experience even more special and I&rsquo;m really excited to be part of this moment; can't wait to hear him live.

What is one dream venue, festival, or artist you would love to perform alongside?
Solomun at Solomun +1, Pacha Ibiza. That&rsquo;s definitely one I&rsquo;d want to tick off one day.
What advice would you give to young women who want to start a career as DJs?
Stay consistent, find your sound, and don&rsquo;t rush it. The rest comes with time.
