More than 2,000 visitors gathered on Sunday to witness the solar alignment illuminating the face of Ramses II at the Abu Simbel temple complex, an annual cultural and astronomical spectacle that continues to attract international attention.
In a statement, the Information and Decision Support Center confirmed that the event was carried out in line with all regulatory and organizational measures, with authorities coordinating security and logistics to ensure smooth visitor access and crowd movement.
The southern city of Aswan hosted tourists, foreign guests, and Egyptian attendees who assembled before dawn to observe the rare phenomenon, widely regarded as one of the world&rsquo;s most striking examples of ancient engineering and astronomical precision.
Occurring twice each year, on 22 February and 22 October, the alignment dates back roughly 3,300 years. During the event, sunlight penetrates the temple&rsquo;s inner sanctuary to illuminate statues of Ramses II alongside the deities Amun and Ra Horakhty, while leaving the figure of Ptah, associated with the underworld, in shadow.
Officials say the spectacle reinforces Aswan&rsquo;s standing as a leading destination for heritage tourism, drawing global audiences to witness one of humanity&rsquo;s oldest surviving demonstrations of scientific and architectural mastery.
