What if we told you that your favorite &rsquo;90s rom-com is getting not just a sequel, but three new films? Director Gil Junger, who directed the beloved 1999 teen classic "10 Things I Hate About You," starring the legendary Heath Ledger and Julia Stiles, has confirmed that a follow-up is &ldquo;definitely in the works.&rdquo; In a recent interview with <a href="https://people.com/10-things-i-hate-about-you-new-movie-heath-ledger-nod-director-gil-junger-exclusive-11727082">People</a>, Junger revealed he is teaming up with original producer Andrew Lazar to develop a trilogy.
The first installment is titled "10 Things I Hate About Dating," which will be followed by "10 Things I Hate About Marriage" and "10 Things I Hate About Kids." Junger confirmed that the first film is currently in active development, stating, &ldquo;We&rsquo;re currently working on it.&rdquo;
He also expressed interest in reuniting with Julia Stiles, praising her iconic role as Kat Stratford: &ldquo;She shaped the lives of millions of women. That Kat character really spoke to young women in a very powerful way.&rdquo; Junger hopes to bring back Larry Miller, who played Kat&rsquo;s overprotective father, describing him as &ldquo;so great&rdquo; and a strong candidate for a return, either as a cameo or in a full role. However, casting discussions are still in the early stages.
Of course, fans still mourn the loss of Heath Ledger, who passed away in 2008. When asked if the new films would honor him, Junger responded warmly: &ldquo;I think that&rsquo;s a beautiful idea, and the answer is now going to be yes. &hellip; He deserves to be loved.&rdquo;
The original film, inspired by Shakespeare&rsquo;s "The Taming of the Shrew," followed two sisters, rebellious Kat and sweet Bianca, as they navigated love, high school, and their strict father&rsquo;s dating rules. What began as a setup evolved into unexpected romance and heartfelt growth, making the film an enduring classic.
