Two iconic actors are teaming up again. Asser Yassin and Hend Sabry have worked together in several projects before, but never as each other's lead. Both actors confirmed the news on Instagram, announcing they'll star together in a new series, "Asal Ahmar."
Plot
"Asal Ahmar" follows a journalist who embarks on a perilous journey to write a book about a serial killer. She finds herself entangled in a web of dark secrets that exposes deep-seated collusion and corruption within religious and security institutions during the 1980s and 1990s. The series stars Hend Sabry, Asser Yassin, Abbas Abo Elhassan, and Samaa Ibrahim. The story is by Ibrahim Eissa, the screenplay and dialogue are by Mohamed Hesham Abeya, and it is directed by Mariam Ahmadi.
This isn't the first time Hend and Asser have collaborated. Here are their previous works:
Ard Khas Series (2010)
Both Asser Yassin and Hend Sabry appeared in "Ard Khas" as guest stars, playing themselves, appearing under their real names and identities as famous artists within the context of the show's dramatic events.
Genainat el-Asmak (2008)
In the film "Genainat el-Asmak," Asser Yassin played a police officer in a brief appearance, while Hend Sabry played the main role of Laila Bakr, the presenter of a late-night radio program.
El Jazeera (2007)
In &ldquo;El Jazeera,&rdquo; the two actors appeared together on screen, with Asser Yassin playing Mahmoud Najeh, Karima&rsquo;s brother. Hend Sabry portrayed Karima, a strong Upper Egyptian woman caught up in the power struggles surrounding the Hefny family.
Karima&rsquo;s brother is killed during the events of the film by her lover, Mansour El Hefny, played by Ahmed El Sakka.
Lahazat Harega (2007)
Asser Yassin portrayed Tariq, a civil engineer, as a guest star in the series &ldquo;Lahazat Harega.&rdquo; Hend Sabry also appeared as a guest star in one episode, playing the role of a prisoner. However, the two actors did not share scenes in this project.
Emaret Yacoubian (2006)
In &ldquo;Emaret Yacoubian,&rdquo; Asser Yassin appeared in a supporting role, while Hend Sabry was among the film&rsquo;s main characters.
Set inside the famous Yacoubian Building in downtown Cairo, the film follows the intersecting lives of residents from different social classes, backgrounds, and political and intellectual perspectives, reflecting the wider changes taking place in Egyptian society.
With two of Egypt&rsquo;s most prominent actors coming together for &ldquo;Asal Ahmar,&rdquo; audiences are eager to see Hend Sabry and Asser Yassin share the spotlight in what marks their first major project together as leading stars.
