Considered to be one of the greatest anime directors of all time, Satoshi Kon blessed us with 4 mind-bending movies, before his unfortunate death in 2010. Although his filmography was short-lived, each one of his movies is inventive, ambitious, and extremely influential.
The Japanese auteur was a master in capturing distorted realities in a way that was unique to him and truly monumental, and he will go on to influence great directors such as Christopher Nolan and Darren Aronofsky. &nbsp;
To celebrate the birthday of the legendary Japanese director, let&rsquo;s look at his film career and rank his four excellent films.

4- "Millennium Actress"

The movie is about a documentary filmmaker who interviews the legendary actress, Chiyoko Fujiwara, who is now retired and living in her forest-shrouded home, and as she recounts her past, we travel through her memories; however, Chiyoko&rsquo;s memories are not all her own, some of them belong to the characters she played in her movies.
&ldquo;Millennium Actress&rdquo; is a sprawling personal saga that is both mind-bending and heartwarming. That&rsquo;s due to the incredible editing and cinematography, which makes the audience take a peek inside the multileveled psyche of the main character.

3- "Tokyo Godfathers"

On a cold Christmas eve, three homeless people stumble upon a baby in the trash, and from there they start their Journey to find his parents.
"Tokyo Godfathers" is a deep look into the homeless population in Tokyo. While it isn&rsquo;t similar to Kon&rsquo;s other movies, it does not lack the depth and intricacies of his other movies. The entire movie takes place on Christmas eve, however, the movie shows the streets of Tokyo to be dark and grim to showcase the harsh circumstances that the three main characters have to deal with every day.

2- "Paprika"

Set in a world where therapists have machinery that allows them to enter the dreams of their patients, when some of these machines go missing, a mysterious girl called Paprika showed up to save the day.
Based on a novel by the Japanese author Yasutaka Tsutsui, "Paprika" is a grandiose, surreal festival. It tackles subjects such as conciseness and dreams.

1- "Perfect Blue"

Perfect Blue is about a pop star who gives up her career as a singer to focus on her acting career, motivated by her fear of failure, Mimi, tries to do her best, but things begin to go south when an obsessed fan starts to stalk her.
Satoshi Kon&rsquo;s debut is a masterpiece, as it introduced the world to a new way of portraying characters with split personalities, utilizing colors, and animation to represent different realities colliding.
