Take us behind the scenes of creating your sets. What&rsquo;s your process from the initial track selection right through to the final performance?
I feel like a set is a journey, not just music. You have to express that journey through the tracks you choose.

What keeps motivating you to push your boundaries and create bigger, better and more unique sets?
It's all about passion. I always want more and I'm constantly looking for ways to improve and evolve.
What are some of the biggest challenges you&rsquo;ve faced as a DJ, and how have they shaped you?
One of the biggest challenges was when a lot of people told me a particular set wouldn't get people dancing. In the end, it did, and that taught me to trust my instincts and believe in my vision.
This isn't your first time as NileFM's DJ of the Week! What surprises or special treats can listeners expect from you this time around?
This time is different because I'm exploring a new genre. I was playing something completely different when I started out, so I'm really excited to see how listeners respond to this set.

What advice would you give to aspiring DJs who are just starting out on their journey?
I'd say it's 50% talent and 50% track selection and musical instinct. Practise as much as you can, put your energy into it and learn how to read the crowd. You need to know when people want to sing along, when they need strong melodies and when they want something different. Most importantly, always smile and go with the vibe.
Was there a specific set, event or crowd reaction that made you think, "This is exactly where I&rsquo;m meant to be"?
Yes, my most recent set. The crowd's reaction reminded me exactly why I love doing this.
Electronic music is constantly evolving. How do you stay creative and keep your sound fresh whilst staying true to your identity as an artist?
It's all driven by passion. I always try to be different and bring something unique to every set.
If you could describe your musical journey in just three tracks, which songs would you choose and why?
Honestly, I couldn't narrow it down to just three tracks. My musical journey is made up of so many songs, each representing a different stage of my growth as an artist.

Starring alongside global icon Mohamed Ramadan, Shehata delivers a performance of immense psychological and physical depth, capturing a spirit of resilient defiance that has captivated audiences and critics alike.
Mustafa Shehata spoke to NileFM to go behind the scenes of &lsquo;Asad&rsquo;, discussing how he navigated the brutal challenges of the shoot, what he learned from working with Mohamed Diab, and how this landmark role is shaping his Hollywood ambitions.
Tell us more about your beginnings, how did a Sudanese young man with Egyptian roots find his way into acting and cinema? At the beginning, my friends and I used to create small sketches and upload them on Facebook. They got good engagement. Later, I saw a casting call for the film &lsquo;You Will Die at Twenty&rsquo;. A friend of mine encouraged me to audition, and that&rsquo;s how it all started.

Your journey between Sudanese and Egyptian cinema is unique. What are the main differences you noticed between both industries? Egyptian cinema has a long-established legacy and is very structured. In Sudan, there was almost no real cinema around 20 years ago compared to today. Now it has become much stronger, especially after &lsquo;Goodbye Julia&rsquo;. Although it started later, it is developing with steady steps and high professionalism, whether in &lsquo;You Will Die at Twenty&rsquo; or &lsquo;Goodbye Julia&rsquo;. Most of the crew I worked with were Egyptian, which also influenced the experience.

When you were offered a role in a film directed by international filmmaker Mohamed Diab and starring Mohamed Ramadan, what excited you the most about the project? Both names are very important. The moment I heard them, I knew it would be a strong film. I was also drawn to the character Awad, a young, reckless guy. I felt there were many layers I could explore and highlight, especially with such a strong cast and production team behind the film.
Tell us about the most difficult scene you filmed and how you handled that challenge as an actor. There were many difficult scenes, both physically and psychologically. One of the hardest was a scene in Fayoum where a character tells Habashi, The Prince wants you today. The temperature was around five degrees, and we weren&rsquo;t wearing heavy clothes due to the character&rsquo;s condition. Speaking dialogue in that cold was extremely difficult. There were also intense scenes involving people being handcuffed and placed in tight cages. At some point, it felt like we were truly living those moments, and I felt like I was one of them.
What was the atmosphere like behind the scenes, and what did you learn from director Mohamed Diab and star Mohamed Ramadan? The atmosphere was very positive. Mohamed Ramadan brought great energy to the set, he was open, supportive, and always willing to listen and share advice. I learned from him how to be a star while staying grounded and maintaining a good relationship with people so they love you. Mohamed Diab gave us precise direction and valuable acting guidance. I learned a lot from both of them.

Your role in &lsquo;You Will Die at Twenty&rsquo; was a major breakthrough. How did it change your view of acting and your choice of roles afterward? It was a turning point for me, and I feel very lucky to have been part of it because it opened a window for Sudanese cinema to the world. It completely changed my understanding of acting. Before that, I didn&rsquo;t fully understand cinematic performance and had limited experience. The film placed me inside the industry and reshaped my perspective.
What opportunities do you see for collaboration between Egyptian and Sudanese cinema in the future? Would you like to take part in joint productions? There is currently a Sudanese-Egyptian film being made called &lsquo;Blue Card&rsquo;. I believe that in the future, more Sudanese films produced in Egypt will find strong audiences and success.
You will soon appear alongside superstar Yousra in the film &lsquo;Banat Faten&rsquo;. Can you tell us more about your role and working with her? The film is very special, and I hope audiences will see the effort we put into it. Yousra is amazing in every way, calm, clear, and incredibly inspiring. I deeply admire her. We still stay in contact, and I often consult her for advice even after filming. She is truly a legend in acting. The atmosphere was beautiful on set, also featuring Bassem Samra and Huda El Mufti.

After your journey from Sudan to international cinema and then Egyptian cinema, what is the biggest dream you are still chasing? It is still a very big dream. I feel my journey is just beginning. I want to work in Hollywood one day and be part of major Arab productions that reach global standards, so strong that we no longer need to reference Western films. I believe the Middle East will become a major global cinematic force, watched and appreciated by both Arab and international audiences.

What began as a fascination in 2015 soon developed into a passion, shaping a DJ whose sets are driven by emotion, atmosphere, and storytelling. Today, Thursday, 4 June 2026, Omar Yasser joins NileFM as DJ of the Week.
Inspired by progressive house pioneers and the emotions hidden within melodies, Omar creates immersive musical journeys influenced by both music and nature. Whether gazing at the sea or standing in a quiet open space, he finds inspiration in the sounds and textures around him, bringing a sense of authenticity to his music.
NileFM sits down with Omar to discuss his journey into electronic music, the artists who inspire him, his most meaningful collaboration, and the challenges of helping progressive and organic house music gain a wider audience in Egypt.
Tell us about the start of your journey as a DJ. What first drew you to music and the world of DJing? I got my start back in 2015. For me, it wasn&rsquo;t just about liking music. It was about realizing how much power a track has over a room. I fell hard for progressive house because of how hypnotic it is. I became obsessed with the idea of mixing more than two tracks so smoothly that the crowd couldn't even tell where one ended and the next began. I wanted to be the guy controlling that energy, not just standing in the crowd. So, I bought some gear, started practicing, and honestly, I haven&rsquo;t looked back.&nbsp;

What inspires you to explore deeper feelings and ideas through your tracks? I&rsquo;ve just never been interested in playing random, high-energy club tracks for two hours straight. To me, a good set needs to feel like a story with actual ups and downs. I&rsquo;ve always been drawn to the deeper, more melancholic side of electronic music from guys like Alex O'rion or Hernan Cattaneo. It&rsquo;s about creating a specific mood because music can capture feelings that you can't really put into words. Nature appears to be a recurring influence in your work. How do you translate natural elements and emotions into sound? There&rsquo;s a weirdly strong connection between huge open spaces and the wide, atmospheric sound of progressive or organic house. Whenever I&rsquo;m out in nature, whether it's looking at the sea or standing in a quiet space. It changes how I listen to sound. I try to bring those exact textures into my music, pads that feel like the wind, or heavy, grounded percussion that feels like the earth. It gives the music a lot of breathing room and makes it feel real, rather than just purely digital. You&rsquo;ve worked with a number of artists and DJs over the years. Is there one collaboration that stands out as particularly memorable, and what made it special? My remix of Mike Turing's "Good Looking" is easily one of the best collaborations I've ever done. This one hits different because the music perfectly mirrors exactly what I was going through in my life at the time. Every career comes with challenges. What have been some of the biggest obstacles you've faced as a DJ, and how did you overcome them? My biggest obstacle has been pioneering a niche music movement in a market that wasn't ready for it. Trying to spread Progressive and Organic House in Egypt meant constantly running into roadblocks, from finding venues willing to take a risk to changing audience perceptions. I had to look at those challenges not as walls, but as strategic hurdles. Overcoming them required a mix of persistence, community-building, and creative problem-solving, which really shaped my ability to lead initiatives when the odds are stacked against me.' You were recently selected as NileFM&rsquo;s DJ of the Week. What can listeners expect from your special set, and are there any surprises in store? First, it's a pleasure to be selected as your DJ of the week. Listeners can expect a carefully mixed and crafted journey bridging the gap between Organic and Progressive House . It's a set built on storytelling, and I wanted to bring this deeply emotional energy to the airwaves, giving the NileFM audience that taste.

Getting invited to do a guest mix for international platforms like Subcode was huge, but my absolute favorite memory has to be recording a one-hour set right in the middle of the South Sinai desert near Dahab. Playing deep, progressive tracks surrounded by nothing but massive mountains under the night sky was completely surreal. There was no club lighting or massive sound system, just raw nature and the music. It completely reminded me why I fell in love with doing this in the first place. What&rsquo;s next for you? Are there any upcoming projects, releases, or ambitions that you're particularly excited about? I&rsquo;m focusing heavily on both global reach and local community impact. On the production and performance side, I&rsquo;m currently working on an upcoming guest mix for Proton, which is a massive milestone for pushing my sound to the international progressive house community. Locally, I&rsquo;m in discussions with Al Madina Arts to launch a series of workshops and music sessions. The goal is to mentor and inspire the next generation of young talent here in Egypt, introducing them to top-tier electronic sounds and giving them the tools to explore genres like progressive and organic house. Finally, what advice would you give to aspiring DJs who are trying to develop their own sound and build a career in the industry? Right now, there&rsquo;s a global trend where it feels like everyone is chasing the same commercial sound just to get quick wins or social media numbers. But my advice to this next generation of producers is simple: stop riding the wave and start creating your own. Sticking to your artistic vision means you will face an uphill battle and a lot of obstacles, especially in a market that pushes the mainstream. But blending your own sounds and carving out a unique identity is the only way to build something that lasts. True artists don't follow the flow; they create a new one.

In the series, he plays a boy caught between separated parents, trying to maintain his relationship with both while confronting a major emotional challenge following his mother's illness. The role places him at the centre of a story that explores family relationships, loss and resilience.

In an exclusive interview with NileFM, Youssef discusses his experience working on &lsquo;Ward Ala Foll Wa Yasmeen&rsquo;, the challenges of portraying such an emotional character, and his hopes for the future.
How did you begin acting, and what made you fall in love with it?
I started acting in the series 'Bedon Sabeq Enzar,' where I played the role of Omayrico. There was an audition for the series, and around 150 children applied. Thankfully, director Hany Khalifa chose me for the role.
I had always loved acting, but once I entered the field, I became even more passionate about it.

What attracted you to your role in Ward Ala Foll Wa Yasmeen? And how did you prepare for it?
What attracted me to the role of Karim was that it was completely different from anything I had done before. I had never played a mischievous and witty character, so it felt like a new challenge.
To prepare, I read the script carefully and attended several table-read sessions. I also worked with acting coach and theatre director Islam Imam. We spent time discussing and preparing each scene before filming.
Your character in the series experiences a wide range of emotions. How were you able to convey them to the audience?
I think it came from truly believing in Karim's story and understanding his life with his mother, Elham, and his father, Hassan, as well as the challenges they face. I tried to put myself in his position and imagine how he would feel in each situation. That helped me be honest in my performance, and thankfully the audience connected with it.

How was it working with Saba Mubarak and Ahmed Abdel Wahab? What did you learn from them?
Working with artists like Saba Mubarak and Ahmed Abdel Wahab was a wonderful experience. Every day I learned something new from them, especially the importance of discipline and being truthful when expressing emotions on screen.
You also worked with UNICEF. What did that experience add to your life?
I am proud to have participated, even in a small way, with an organisation like UNICEF. The experience taught me a lot about public health and the efforts being made to protect children.
I learned about the extensive work being done by health authorities and organisations such as UNICEF to combat diseases through vaccination programmes. I also tried to help children my age better understand the importance of vaccines and how they help keep communities healthy.

The series &lsquo;Bedon Sabeq Enzar&rsquo; was an important milestone in your career. How did it influence you and your choices as an actor?
'Bedon Sabeq Enzar' made a huge difference in my life and taught me many valuable lessons. I am very grateful to director Hany Khalifa for believing in me and choosing me for such a challenging role in my first acting experience.
He taught me the importance of paying attention to every detail of a character and being honest with my emotions. I was also very happy to work alongside Asser Yassin and Aisha Ben Ahmed and learn from their experience.
Which artist have you learned the most from during your journey so far?
I have learned something from every artist and director I have worked with. I am grateful to all of them and proud to have had the opportunity to share those experiences.
What would you like to say to children who dream of becoming actors?
I would tell them to believe in themselves and their talent, work hard, and never give up. Success takes time and effort, but if you stay dedicated and keep learning, you can achieve your goals.

What is the most memorable reaction you have received from audiences?
There have been many comments that touched me. I am always happy to read people's feedback, and it means a lot when viewers tell me they believed in the character and connected with Karim's story.

We are currently filming a new project, which I will be able to talk about soon. For now, I'll keep it a surprise, but I'm excited for audiences to see what's coming next.

Balancing both honestly comes down to discipline, passion, and knowing when to switch hats. Dentistry will always require structure and responsibility, so I take that very seriously. DJing, on the other hand, is where I get to express my creativity and recharge mentally.

What similarities have you personally found between the two careers? Communication is the similarity. In dentistry, trust is important because people rely on you during vulnerable moments. In music, people connect with you emotionally through what you play and the atmosphere you create. When did you first realise that DJing was something you wanted to pursue seriously, not just as a hobby? I realised DJing was more than a hobby when I saw how music could genuinely connect people and change the energy in a room. The reaction from crowds made me want to take it more seriously and grow as an artist while still continuing my journey in medicine. Every DJ has that one difficult moment behind the scenes. What has been one of the biggest challenges you&rsquo;ve faced while preparing or performing a set? One of my biggest challenges was when technical issues hit right before I went on stage at my first gig. I had to quickly switch to a backup plan and improvise the set. It was stressful, but it taught me to always be prepared and adaptable. Music trends are constantly changing. How do you keep your sets fresh and stay connected with your audience? I stay connected to the audience by paying attention to what actually works in real time rather than relying only on trends. I keep digging for new music and edits so my sets have a mix of familiar and unexpected sounds. As a father, how does your family react to your career as a DJ, especially when balancing late nights, performances, and family life? Right now, I&rsquo;m still in the early stages of building my career, so I don&rsquo;t perform on stage that often yet. My family is very supportive and understands that I&rsquo;m working towards something long-term. What kind of vibe or surprises are you preparing for your &ldquo;DJ of the Week&rdquo; set on NileFM? For my &ldquo;DJ of the Week&rdquo; set on NileFM, I&rsquo;m preparing a journey that flows from dark melodic into pure melodic techno, and then into progressive techno. NileFM has a special place for me, so I wanted this set to feel like a cohesive story that grows in energy while staying in harmony from start to finish.

One of my proudest moments was when I was first featured on NileFM. I&rsquo;ve been dreaming about that since 2006, so hearing my work on a station I grew up with felt really special. It was a moment that made everything feel real and worth the years of effort leading up to it. What advice would you give to people who struggle to balance their careers with their passions or hobbies and feel they must choose only one path? I&rsquo;d say choose the path that genuinely makes you happy. A career is important, but if you completely ignore your passion, you&rsquo;ll always feel like something is missing. You don&rsquo;t always have to choose one or the other straight away. Sometimes it&rsquo;s about building both step by step until your passion finds its place in your life.

His journey began in the 1990s as a bass guitarist performing live with a band. However, when rehearsals became difficult due to college and life commitments, music found another way into his hands through turntables, mixers, and late nights spent perfecting transitions inspired by global DJs.
What started as a hobby turned into a deeper passion after being part of a band, learning everything related to music, and constantly developing himself to keep up with new trends. This Thursday on &ldquo;DJ of the Week&rdquo; on NileFM, DJ Carlos will take over the decks for one hour of dance, energy, and special surprises. Everything included in this set will be his personal remixes and edits, never before heard on radio.
NileFM speaks to Carlos, who reflects on a career built on passion, sound, and creating moments that stay with crowds long after the music fades. In this exclusive interview, he opens up about the evolution of his musical identity, the energy behind his sets, and the lessons music has taught him that still guide every performance. What first inspired you to become a DJ, and do you remember the moment you realised this was the path you wanted to follow?
Back in the &rsquo;90s, I was a band member, playing bass guitar, performing live, and rocking stages numerous times. However, when it became difficult to gather the band members for rehearsals and performances due to college studies and life commitments, I searched for an alternative way to keep my passion for music alive.
Creating mixtapes and CDs had also been a hobby since childhood, so I bought a mixer and started experimenting with mixing bit by bit until I figured it out by listening to transitions from global DJs that I admired. I would search for and download the two tracks, then try to recreate the transition until I perfected it.
It&rsquo;s not that difficult when you come from a musical background or play an instrument. The very first rave in Egypt was Ministry Of Sound at Roots Maadi in 1999, and I was lucky enough to be there. Watching a DJ perform live and unite the entire venue through sound was the moment I decided to follow this path.

You&rsquo;ve just been featured as NileFM&rsquo;s DJ of the Week. What does this recognition mean to you at this stage of your journey?
I&rsquo;m very thankful for the invitation and the feature. NileFM&rsquo;s airwaves were my home for more than 15 years and helped kick-start my career, as well as the careers of many other DJs. It will always remain a place for talent to shine and the birthplace of future stars.
Take us behind the scenes of preparing one of your DJ sets. How do you build the mood and energy before stepping behind the decks?
When you go to a fine restaurant for a meal consisting of appetisers, a main course, and dessert, all prepared by an experienced chef where every ingredient complements the next, to me, a DJ set is very similar.
It&rsquo;s a journey of sounds building up and transitioning through different energies to create unforgettable feelings for dancefloor lovers. Being prepared, rested, and focused are key elements of a great performance, alongside a few stomach butterflies.
Your mixes blend House, Afro House, Tribal, and multicultural electronic sounds. What attracts you to these styles, and how do they shape your musical identity?
I wouldn&rsquo;t limit myself to specific genres. Whatever feels right, I&rsquo;ll play. It&rsquo;s true that these are some of my favourite genres, but I also enjoy Progressive House, Deep House, Techno, Melodic Techno, and Tech House, and I&rsquo;ve played all of them.

When you&rsquo;re performing live, how do you read the crowd and decide when it&rsquo;s time to shift the energy of the set? On every dance floor, there are those who are there only for the music, to dance and have a great time, with no phones, keeping interactions to a minimum, feeling cleansing and feeding on sound energies. They&rsquo;ll dance all night as long as you&rsquo;re doing it right. Those are the ones to look for in a crowd, the thermometers that can give you an exact collective feeling of the whole dance floor. I want to give a shout-out to those great characters for guiding me and the whole room with their great energies.
You&rsquo;re coming back to NileFM, this time as DJ of the Week. How does it feel to return in this role, and what surprises did you prepare for listeners? Well, DJ of the Week or the DJ of every week, as it was for 15 years, is kind of the same to me. I&rsquo;ve got to give it my all. It&rsquo;s always a huge responsibility to play for millions in my hometown. So I prepared something very special for it. Everything included in this set is my personal remixes and edits and has never been heard before on any radio.

Is there a specific track or moment in a set that always creates magic on the dancefloor for you? Got to always have those silver bullets in your arsenal and tricks up your sleeve. It&rsquo;s that track that no one knows about and is guaranteed to be a future hit, or that nostalgic remix that I just finished and can&rsquo;t wait to drop and enjoy the reactions.
Over the years, what has been the most memorable comment you&rsquo;ve received while DJing? I&rsquo;m very humbled and thankful for all the great comments, compliments, criticism, and unforgettable reactions I got while playing. It fills my heart with joy and pushes me to get better. There&rsquo;s this comment that I received that really stands out, and it came not from an experienced raver but from a tycoon businessman. He said: &ldquo;You know Carlos, when you play, it&rsquo;s like your fingers have strings attached to everyone in the venue, connected to their bodies, brains, and hearts, and you move everyone like marionettes,&rdquo; as he kept moving his arms and fingers.
Electronic music is constantly evolving. How do you stay creative and keep your sound fresh in such a fast-moving scene? It was always about the &ldquo;selection&rdquo; and always will be. Playing what everyone knows, plays, and has on their phones, in their cars, and gyms is nice, don&rsquo;t get me wrong, but it&rsquo;s not for me. I want to play what you&rsquo;ve never heard before but that blows your mind away while listening to it on the spot, and that you&rsquo;ll remember the next day or tell your friends about, that monster remix of a song you know that I dropped, that new sound, or heartfelt melody or vocal line upon moving bass lines and beats. So the more you refine your selection, the more you&rsquo;ll reach a bigger audience.
Looking back at your experiences in the industry so far, what is the most important lesson music has taught you? People will always remember how you made them feel.

What advice would you give to young DJs who want to create their own sound and build a career in electronic music? Stay humbled and true to your roots. The day you feel you&rsquo;re bigger than the music or the crowd is the day that ends your career. Be prepared for rejection, don&rsquo;t take it personally, and have patience alongside consistency. Music is a message; if you&rsquo;re not in it to say something, then please don&rsquo;t. You have to walk the path with steady steps, no taxi rides or shortcuts, or you&rsquo;ll find the whole journey went to waste. It&rsquo;s a 24-hours, 7-days-a-week job, not just a 2-hour performance, so ask yourself every day before sleeping: &ldquo;What have I done today to make me a better DJ?&rdquo;
