Six years ago, Nintendo released &ldquo;The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild&rdquo;, the new entry to their flagship series, which was the first significant exclusive for the Nintendo Switch.
At that time the teasers of &ldquo;Breath of the Wild&rdquo; had fans worried as it indicated that the game will adopt a modern take on the open-world formula, and will step away from the traditional characteristics and mechanics of the previous games, however, when &ldquo;Breath of the Wild&rdquo; was released, it laid all that skepticism to rest and became one of the best-selling games of all time, won &ldquo;Game of the Year&rdquo; award, revolutionized the nonlinear approach in the open-world game design, and became the main influence and the outline for many great games such as &ldquo;Elden Ring&rdquo;, &ldquo;Genshin Impact&rdquo;, and &ldquo;Horizon: Forbidden West&rdquo;
So right off the bat, &ldquo;The Legend of Zelda: Tears of The Kingdom&rdquo;, the sequel to &ldquo;Breath of The Wild (BotW)&rdquo;, has some pretty big shoes to fill, but does it live up to the hype and legacy of its predecessor?

For the majority of the development process of &ldquo;Tears of the Kingdom&rdquo;, it was titled &ldquo;Breath of the Wild 2&rdquo;, which is strikingly fitting because &ldquo;Tears of the Kingdom&rdquo; is - in a nutshell &ndash; more of &ldquo;Breath of the Wild&rdquo;. If you were not a fan of the first game and you got overwhelmed by the sheer volume of it, &ldquo;Tears&rdquo; most likely won&rsquo;t win you over, in fact, it might overwhelm you even more.
However, if you happened to be from the vast majority who adored &ldquo;BotW&rdquo;, then you will get exactly what you asked for in more blustering quantities, with more enemy variety, more mind-bending shrines, and much more Hyrule to explore.&nbsp;
Just like the initial structure of &ldquo;BotW&rdquo;, you gain and learn to use new abilities in the introductory area of the game, then the game launches you into its extremely vast open world, and you&rsquo;re basically free to do whatever you want in any order you like. You can even head straight to the finale of the game if you know your way around, however, exploration is the name of the game in &ldquo;Tears&rdquo;, beside the main quest there are dozens upon dozens of caves, wells, and sky islands to check out.
Even though the map of Hyrule is the same as &ldquo;BotW&rdquo;, it feels completely fresh and different with new enemies and secrets to explore, more mechanics such as an advanced and creative building system, and weapon fusion. If that&rsquo;s not enough for you, there are more layers to Hyrule now as you can explore the depth below it, and the sky islands above it, and each one has its own self-contained map.

The extreme sense of familiarity in &ldquo;Tears of the Kingdom&rdquo; is the most powerful tool at its disposal, but it can also be its most conspicuous flaw, as the few hours you spend in Hyrule after the ambitious introductory area, can get a bit dull and derivative, it&rsquo;s not till the game starts to introduce new elements, that you start enjoying the exploration again.
&ldquo;Tears of the Kingdom&rdquo; is built on the tremendously solid foundations of &ldquo;Breath of the Wild&rdquo;. It&rsquo;s exceedingly immense to the point that you barely scratch the surface in your first 100 hours, and raises the bar once more for the upcoming open-world games to be more immersive and interactive.
