Minister of Agriculture and Land Reclamation Alaa Farouk and Minister of Planning and Economic Development Ahmed Rostom held a meeting with senior officials from both ministries to review the progress and performance of joint development projects currently being implemented across Egypt.
The meeting examined performance reports for ongoing projects funded through local resources and in cooperation with international development partners. Officials stressed the importance of adhering to implementation timelines and maximizing the benefits of available funding.
Discussions also focused on developing effective mechanisms to empower Egyptian farmers, improve agricultural productivity, and connect agricultural production with agro-industrial processing. This approach aims to ensure sustainable income for farmers while reducing crop losses.

Agricultural Manufacturing as a Key Driver of Growth
During the meeting, both ministers emphasized that agricultural manufacturing represents a key engine for economic growth. Moving from raw agricultural production to processing industries can help reduce final product costs and limit losses in strategic crops through integrated systems for storage and processing.
They also highlighted the importance of increasing the added value of Egyptian agricultural products in both local and international markets, strengthening the competitiveness of Egypt&rsquo;s agricultural sector.
Linking Development Projects to the &ldquo;Decent Life&rdquo; Initiative
The ministers agreed on the importance of linking agricultural development projects with villages targeted by the presidential initiative, Decent Life Initiative. This integration aims to ensure better services for citizens while transforming rural communities into productive hubs that can boost incomes and improve living standards.
Farouk stressed that supporting small farmers remains a top priority for the Ministry of Agriculture. Current efforts focus on providing technical and financial support, improving irrigation systems, modernizing agricultural cooperatives, and transferring modern farming practices to farmers to enhance productivity and income levels.
Creating Jobs and Strengthening Rural Economies
Farouk added that expanding agro-industrial activities within rural areas is also a social necessity, as it can create real job opportunities for youth and rural women. The ministry is working closely with the Ministry of Planning to remove obstacles facing small farmers and facilitate the establishment of small processing units that complement agricultural production and reduce crop losses.
For his part, Rostom emphasized that coordination between the two ministries comes within the framework of continuous monitoring of the national rural development project under the Decent Life Initiative. He noted that the first phase of the project is nearing completion, paving the way for the launch of the second phase in line with presidential directives.
He added that agriculture remains a cornerstone of the Egyptian economy, with ongoing efforts focused on strengthening value chains, supporting small farmers, and enhancing their role in achieving food security.
