Egypt&rsquo;s Minister of Local Development and Environment, Manal Awad, has reviewed a report on waste accumulation and illegal encroachments in several governorates after images circulated on social media.
The report identified cases in Giza, Suez, Minya and Dakahlia, prompting immediate coordination with local authorities to assess the situation and take corrective measures.
According to the report, submitted by Saeed Helmy Abdelkhalek, Head of the Strategic Management and Local Development Sector, the National Emergency and Public Safety Network Control Centre coordinated with executive authorities in the concerned governorates to carry out field inspections. The inspections aimed to verify conditions on the ground and address waste accumulation or illegal encroachments affecting traffic flow and environmental conditions.

Governorate authorities were instructed to remove waste promptly, clear illegal encroachments, intensify cleanliness campaigns, and improve the efficiency of waste collection and transportation systems in the affected areas. Legal action is also expected against individuals responsible for dumping waste or occupying public roads and utility spaces.
The National Emergency and Public Safety Network Control Centre and the ministry&rsquo;s Crisis Management Centre continue to monitor developments in real time through an integrated system linking operations rooms across the governorates. Officials say this system enables rapid field response and ensures that emerging issues are addressed quickly.
Awad said the ministry&rsquo;s monitoring system operates continuously to track complaints and observations related to local and environmental conditions. She added that coordination with governorates and relevant executive authorities ensures swift action to address issues affecting environmental quality, public health, and the appearance of residential areas.
The minister also stressed that the government is working with governorates to improve the efficiency of cleanliness and waste management systems, including faster responses to emergencies and public complaints, as part of broader efforts to enhance urban environmental quality and promote sustainable solid waste management.
