Egypt is expected to face unstable weather across most areas on Wednesday, 18 March 2026, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA)
The weather will include rain of varying intensity, sometimes with thunder, along with winds of 40&ndash;50km/h that could stir up sand and dust. Temperatures are also forecast to increase by 2 to 3 degrees in most regions.
There is a chance of moderate to heavy rainfall, occasionally accompanied by thunderstorms, in parts of Sinai, the Red Sea governorate, the Gulf of Suez and northern Upper Egypt. Flash floods may occur in some areas, particularly on roads connecting the Red Sea governorate with northern Upper Egypt.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rain, at times thundery, is expected intermittently in parts of the Suez Canal cities, Greater Cairo, the Nile Delta, the North Coast, and southern Upper Egypt.
Winds are expected to remain active across most areas, potentially reducing visibility to less than 1,000 metres, especially in northern and southern Upper Egypt and parts of southern and eastern Cairo. Gusts could reach between 60 and 70km/h, with a probability of around 30%.
Maritime navigation may be disrupted in parts of the Red Sea and the Gulf of Suez, where wind speeds are expected to range from 50 to 70km/h and wave heights could reach between 2.5 and 4 metres.
Authorities have issued warnings for coastal areas, including Salloum, Marsa Matrouh, El Alamein, Alexandria, and Baltim, where wind speeds may reach 50 to 60km/h and wave heights could be between 2.5 and 3 metres.
Residents are advised to avoid standing under trees, billboards, or unstable structures during strong winds. Thunderstorms may also bring lightning, hail, and strong downdrafts, with an estimated probability of around 30%.
