The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has announced that the Grand Egyptian Museum will be closed from 15th October to 4th November 2025 as part of final preparations for its long-awaited official inauguration.
Dr. Ahmed Ghoneim, CEO of the Grand Egyptian Museum Authority, said the temporary closure will allow the museum to complete essential organizational and logistical work ahead of the grand opening ceremony on 1st November. The reopening on 4 November will coincide with the 103rd anniversary of the discovery of the tomb of Tutankhamun, giving visitors the chance to enjoy the museum&rsquo;s full cultural experience.

Since 16th October 2024, the museum has been operating on a trial basis in certain areas. In February this year, it introduced new official hours, opening daily from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM throughout the year, with extended evening hours on Saturdays and Wednesdays from 9:00 AM until 9:00 PM.
Billed as the largest archaeological museum in the world, the Grand Egyptian Museum will house over 100,000 artefacts, including the complete collection of treasures from Tutankhamun&rsquo;s tomb displayed together for the first time.
