During its grand opening, the Grand Egyptian Museum paid tribute to Hussein Abdel Rasoul, the young Egyptian boy whose chance discovery led to one of archaeology&rsquo;s greatest finds; the tomb of King Tutankhamun.
His story was brought to life through a special narration by actor Kareem Abdelaziz, whose voice guided viewers through the boy&rsquo;s fateful moment in the sands of Luxor.
Just over a century ago, in the early days of November 1922, Hussein was carrying a jar of water to the excavation site. When he set it down, he heard a hollow sound beneath the sand. Curious, he brushed the surface and began to dig, uncovering stone steps that led to a sealed doorway marked with ancient symbols.&nbsp;
The boy could not have known he was standing before the entrance to the world&rsquo;s most famous tomb. Excited, he ran to inform British archaeologist Howard Carter, who had spent years searching for the resting place of the young pharaoh.
When the doorway was finally opened, Carter and his team found the burial chambers almost untouched. Inside were thousands of objects, gold, statues, jewelry, chariots, and ritual items, preserved as they had been for more than 3,000 years.
Among them lay the golden coffin of Tutankhamun, revealing the serene face of the boy king who had captured the world&rsquo;s imagination ever since.
In total, 5,952 artefacts were recovered from the tomb, each offering a glimpse into Egypt&rsquo;s royal past. Today, for the first time, all of them are displayed together at the Grand Egyptian Museum, Where history lives on, retold for generations to come.
