The 46th Cairo International Film Festival concluded with a deeply emotional moment, as Festival President and acclaimed actor Hussein Fahmy used the closing ceremony to underline cinema&rsquo;s enduring role in preserving human stories and safeguarding truth.

 Taking the stage after an image of the late Palestinian child Hind Rajab was shown accompanied by a recording of her voice. Fahmy reflected on the responsibility of cinema to document reality.

 &ldquo;The call you just heard may at first seem like a scene from a film, but it is tragic because it is real,&rdquo; he told the audience. &ldquo;It is the voice of Hind Rajab, a six-year-old girl from Gaza who cried out for help for three hours after witnessing the killing of members of her family. Her life ended while the world looked away. The power of cinema lies in its ability to document and keep real stories alive, no matter how much some may try to ignore them. Hind, her story, and her voice remain present, and children like her are not merely numbers but real human beings.&rdquo;

 Fahmy noted that this year&rsquo;s closing film, The Voice of Hind Rajab, carried resonance in this context. He highlighted the breadth of activities throughout the festival&rsquo;s 46th edition, including screenings of competing films that drew strong public interest, as well as restored classics, workshops, masterclasses featuring industry figures, and a busy festival market.
&nbsp;
 He emphasised&nbsp;that the festival&rsquo;s success was made possible through support from a wide range of institutions, led by the Ministry of Culture under Dr Ahmed Fouad Henawy, in addition to the Ministries of Foreign Affairs, Interior, Tourism and Antiquities, and Youth and Sports. He also acknowledged the Tourism Promotion Authority, Cairo Governorate, and Dr Alaa Abdelsalam, head of the Egyptian Opera House, describing the institution as a cornerstone of Egypt&rsquo;s cultural landscape.
