Egypt is set to experience a strong wave of weather instability across most parts of the country on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, according to the Egyptian Meteorological Authority (EMA).
Heavy and sometimes thundery rainfall is expected in several northern governorates, including Matrouh, Alexandria, Beheira, Kafr El Sheikh, Damietta, Dakahlia, Gharbia, Port Said, Menoufia, and Sharqia. The downpours may occasionally be accompanied by hail.
Flash floods are also possible in parts of Sinai, the northern Red Sea Governorate, as well as the Gulf of Suez and the Gulf of Aqaba.
In Greater Cairo, the Canal cities, Fayoum, Beni Suef, and Minya, moderate rainfall is forecast, which may intensify throughout the day. These showers could become thundery at times, with a chance of hail.
Meanwhile, light to moderate rain is expected intermittently across Upper and Lower Egypt, the Western Desert, and the southern Red Sea Governorate.
Strong winds, ranging between 40 and 50 km/h, are expected to intensify the cold. These winds may also stir up sand and dust, reducing horizontal visibility to less than 1,000 meters in parts of the Western Desert, southern Egypt, and the Red Sea region.
Temperatures are forecast to drop by 3 to 4 degrees Celsius.
Warnings and Safety Measures
The EMA has warned that thunderstorms may bring sudden strong winds caused by downdrafts, potentially leading to reduced visibility. There is also a risk of lightning strikes, hail, and water accumulation in low-lying areas.
Residents are advised to avoid standing under trees, billboards, or unstable structures during periods of severe weather.
There is also a slight chance of snowfall overnight in the highlands of South Sinai.
