The co-founder and chief operating officer at The TriFactory, Seifeldin Fawzy was Nile FM's guest with Rob Stevens &amp; Nadine Hisham on "The Big Breakfast", and he talked about all the details of the highly anticipated upcoming Pyramids Half Marathon.
What was the latest event for the TriFactory?
We had El Gouna half marathon just a couple of weeks ago.
I think we had almost a thousand people running in El Gouna this time, which was great and that&rsquo;s not even our biggest event of the year, it&rsquo;s the Pyramids Half Marathon, and all year long we&rsquo;ve been gearing up for that event, and it&rsquo;s taking place on December 23rd.
What&rsquo;s different in this year&rsquo;s Pyramids Half Marathon?
Every year we try to improve, the first year was in 2019, so we are celebrating a half-decade of the Pyramids half marathon, which is a huge milestone for us, and this year, for the first time we&rsquo;ve received international accreditation from AIMS, which is the Association of International Marathons, which is really huge for Egypt and for us, and it puts the Pyramids Half Marathon alongside races like the New York marathon, and Paris marathon. It&rsquo;s a really big deal.
And we are improving every year, the quality of the race itself, the quality of the organization, and I think people who come to the race kind of trust the TriFactory, and they know what to expect.
How did the TriFactory get the AIMS international accreditation for The Pyramids Half Marathon?
We had to go through a rigorous application process, which we&rsquo;ve shown the track record of the event throughout the years since 2019, and we had to invite a few experts to come and take a look at the surroundings, take a look at the event itself, and we went to an international conference in Osaka, Japan, where we presented our case, and we earned the accreditation.
Can you tell us more about the process of organizing such a huge event like The Pyramids Half Marathon? &nbsp;
There&rsquo;s a lot that goes into it. We are there one week in advance to kind of set-up everything. We have this amazing start and finish line, which we kind of made really popular, it&rsquo;s a double-decker, so we are all up in the morning cheering on the runners as they go underneath and start their race through history.
It&rsquo;s a lot of work. 4000 people take a lot of effort from the TriFactory, but we do our best to make it as smooth as possible, and as fantastic as possible when it comes to organizing this event for all of our runners. &nbsp;
What are the new technologies that the TriFactory will be using in the next edition of Pyramids Half Marathon? &nbsp;
We&rsquo;ve moved past the stopwatches now; we have an automatic timing system. So every single runner who comes has a race number on their chest, and when you run it automatically tells you the finish time when you cross the finish line, down to the seconds, and it&rsquo;s the same system that is used at the Olympic games, so it&rsquo;s a really high-tech system, and at the same time we have our own application called &ldquo;Racemate&rdquo;, which is a major partner at the event, and it allows you to live-track your performance, so your friends and family can be at home watching how fast or slow you may be running at the pyramids
Why did you choose the pyramids as the location of the half marathon?
For a number of reasons but primarily because every country in the world has this major marathon or major running race that they&rsquo;re famous for, the United Kingdom has the London Marathon, which is a big one, and it passes in front of Buckingham Palace and so on. When you think about Paris, it passes in front of the Eiffel Tower, when you think about New York it&rsquo;s the same thing, it passes in front of all the major buildings in Manhattan, and so on.
So we thought about what really represents Egypt&hellip;The Pyramids are really special and it&rsquo;s kind of our major location when it comes to thinking about our country across the world.
So many people come from abroad, and so many of them are seeing the Pyramids of Giza for the first time, and not just seeing them but getting to experience them up close, and run beside them and finish the race, and go take your race medal, and take a picture right in front of them, that&rsquo;s super special, and it&rsquo;s really a bucket list distention, and that&rsquo;s what made the Pyramids Half Marathon a bucket list running race.
What is the long-term vision of the Pyramids Half Marathon and the TriFactory?
Long-term we just want to keep on growing the Pyramids half-marathon to put it alongside those major marathons across the world.
We want people to think &ldquo;If I run in New York, and I run in LA, and I run in Chicago and Tokyo, I want to run in the Pyramids. That&rsquo;s the next one on my list&rdquo; and that&rsquo;s something we really believe in, we&rsquo;ve been working really hard on it with the Ministry of Youth and Sports, The Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities, and the association of international marathons, to really make the Pyramids Half Marathon something that&rsquo;s as strong as any other running race in the world.
What is the piece of advice that you&rsquo;d give to anyone going to the Pyramids Half Marathon for the first time? &nbsp;
The best thing to do is to approach it with an open mindset, it&rsquo;s a fun race, it&rsquo;s a fun experience, and if your goal is just finishing the race, you can take it a little bit more easy. If your goal is to get a personal best or a really strong finish time, then maybe you can research online, we have free training programs and you can use &ldquo;Racemate&rdquo; to train for the race as well beforehand. So we really provide all the tools to make it as easy as possible for you to have a great time, and race through history with us on December 23rd.
