Donya Hassan serves as the Deputy Country Director at the British Council in Egypt and also heads the Cultural Engagement Programmes. She oversees Business Development, EDI (Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion), Security, Risk, and Safety. With over 17 years of experience as a Development Economist, she has worked in Egypt, the USA, and the UAE, specializing in development policy and strategy, advising governments and NGOs.
In her current role, Donya focuses on fostering connections, trust, and understanding between the UK and Egypt by building cultural bridges through key programmes in English, Education, and Arts. Her business development strategy emphasizes expanding impact through effective partnerships while ensuring programmes remain inclusive and safe. Passionate about youth and women empowerment, she has dedicated her career to these causes.
Donya holds an MA in Economics from the American University in Cairo and is fluent in both English and Arabic.
