Today marks a significant milestone in Egypt&rsquo;s sporting history as the country officially opens the 11th edition of the IHF (International Handball Federation) Men&rsquo;s Youth (U-19) World Championship under the theme &ldquo;Egypt Welcomes the World.&rdquo; This is the first time Egypt is hosting this prestigious tournament, bringing together top youth handball talent from across the globe.
Organised by the International Handball Federation (IHF) in partnership with the Egyptian Handball Federation, the tournament will run from 6th to 17th August 2025. Matches will be held across four premier venues: the Cairo International Stadium Halls Complex, Dr. Hassan Moustafa Sports Hall in 6th of October City, and two arenas in the New Administrative Capital. All matches involving the Egyptian national team&mdash;the Young Pharaohs&mdash;will take place at the Main Grand Hall at Cairo International Stadium.

This year&rsquo;s edition features a diverse lineup, including 17 European nations, five African teams, five Asian representatives, three from South and Central America, and one team from North America and the Caribbean. The range of participants reflects the tournament&rsquo;s growing global appeal.&nbsp;
The opening ceremony is scheduled for 6:55 PM Cairo time today, Wednesday. Key sports figures will attend, including Dr Ashraf Sobhi, Egypt&rsquo;s Minister of Youth and Sports; Dr Hassan Moustafa, President of the IHF; and Khaled Fathy, President of the Egyptian Handball Federation, along with members of the federation&rsquo;s board. The 30-minute ceremony will feature artistic performances and cultural celebrations to welcome the participating delegations.&nbsp;
As a result of the ceremony, the Egyptian national team&rsquo;s opening match against South Korea has been postponed slightly&mdash;from 7:30 PM to 8:00 PM. The match, held at Cairo International Stadium Hall, is expected to draw a large and enthusiastic crowd.
To encourage local attendance, entry to all matches will be free of charge. This initiative offers fans a rare opportunity to cheer on the Young Pharaohs and witness world-class handball firsthand, as Egypt proudly takes its place on the global stage.&nbsp;
