Al Ahly clinched a record-extending 16th Egyptian Super Cup title after defeating archrivals Zamalek in a fierce and high-energy encounter at the Mohammed bin Zayed Stadium in the United Arab Emirates.
The clash, one of Egypt&rsquo;s most anticipated football derbies, marked the tenth Super Cup final between the two Cairo powerhouses. The rivals had previously met in nine editions of the competition in 2003, 2008, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2018, 2019, 2021, and 2024 with Al Ahly emerging victorious in seven of those meetings, while Zamalek claimed the title twice, in 2016 and 2019.
Entering the match as defending champions, Al Ahly looked determined to maintain their dominance, having won the 2024 edition on penalties against the same opponents.
This year&rsquo;s final lived up to expectations, with Moroccan forward Ashraf Bencherki opening the scoring for Al Ahly just before half-time in the 44th minute. Marwan Attia doubled the lead midway through the second half with a composed finish in the 72nd minute, sealing the victory for the Red Eagles.
The result reaffirmed Al Ahly&rsquo;s unrivalled supremacy in Egyptian football, extending their record to 16 Super Cup titles, far ahead of their nearest challengers.
The triumph also marked a dream start for Danish coach Jess Thorup, who secured silverware in his very first competition at the helm, signaling a promising new chapter for the African champions.
