Zamalek SC have been hit with a fresh transfer ban by <a href="https://knowledge.fifa.com/registration-bans">FIFA</a>, just hours after moving to the top of the Egyptian Premier League following a win over Smouha SC.
The Cairo club, which has 53 points, was informed of the sanction on FIFA&rsquo;s official website. It is the 16th transfer restriction imposed on the club, coming only days after a previous ban was issued.
The latest punishment relates to an outstanding financial dispute with a former player or coach. It includes a three-transfer-window registration ban, highlighting the seriousness of the unresolved payments.
Zamalek had already been sanctioned for a similar issue prior to their high-profile match against Al Ahly SC, reportedly linked to a delayed payment in the transfer deal for Brazilian player Juan Alvina.
Club working to resolve crisis
Club officials are now seeking to settle outstanding debts, either through direct payment or negotiated agreements, in an effort to lift the ban and restore their ability to register new players.
The club also faces pressure to resolve its financial obligations before the end of March in order to obtain the necessary licensing to compete in domestic and continental competitions next season.
Key fixtures ahead
Despite the off-field issues, Zamalek remain in contention for the Egyptian Premier League title. They are set to face Ceramica Cleopatra FC in a crucial upcoming fixture, which could help secure the championship if they win.
They also continue their CAF Confederation Cup campaign, with a match against USM Alger scheduled for 9 May 2026. A victory would move them closer to continental success.
