Mohamed Sami Bids Farewell to TV Drama

In a surprising announcement, acclaimed Egyptian director Mohamed Sami has officially announced his retirement from television drama. In a heartfelt post on his official Facebook page, Sami reflected on his 15-year journey in the industry and expressed gratitude for his success and the unwavering support of his audience.

He stated:

"This year marks my final work in television drama, as I bid farewell to TV series. It has been a long journey—around 15 years—during which I gave everything I could to bring joy to Arab audiences. Thanks to God, I achieved great success with many stars, production companies, and major TV networks. The audience has always been my driving force, whether through their reactions or their votes in awards. Any success I had was due to God and the viewers.

Those close to me know that I made this decision some time ago—to retire from TV directing—but I was committed to finishing signed projects with companies and stars. Now, with my final work set for 2025, I have completed these obligations. I feel I have nothing more to add to television, and I fear the audience may grow tired of my style or that I might fall into the trap of repetition and predictability.

I’m grateful that my last two projects, Esh Esh and Seed El Nas, achieved success which makes me happy. Every day, my great country, Egypt, produces new, talented, and cultured creators who will continue to present outstanding works that capture Arab audiences.

I thank everyone who supported me along the way, and I appreciate every colleague whose competition pushed me to excel. I also apologize for any scene I directed that didn’t meet audience expectations—after all, artists always experiment, and as they say, art is madness.

I ask for your prayers as I embark on a two-year journey abroad to study something new—something I’ve always wanted to learn but kept postponing. I realized that time is passing, and I don’t want to let life slip away without pursuing a passion I’ve long dreamed of. I firmly believe that one can pause something they love to explore something else they love, as long as they have the right support system.

I wish all my colleagues success, and I love and thank you all for the years of beautiful competition that built our names. I hope for success in my next chapter."

Tamer Hosny’s Emotional Tribute

Shortly after Sami’s announcement, singer and actor Tamer Hosny—a longtime friend and collaborator—voiced his support in a heartfelt comment on the director’s post.

Hosny praised Sami’s unparalleled success, reminding fans that the director has never truly failed, despite some critical feedback on specific scenes. He listed Sami’s groundbreaking projects, from Adam and Hekayet Hayah to El Ostoura and Gaafar El Omda, emphasizing their massive influence on Egyptian drama.

“A green tree sometimes grows a few yellow leaves—but it remains a strong, beautiful tree,” Hosny wrote, urging Sami not to let minor setbacks overshadow his legacy. He assured the director that his decision to step away should be seen as a victory, not a retreat, and expressed confidence that Sami’s new journey would bring even greater achievements.
