The 2025 Cannes Film Festival, one of the world&rsquo;s most prestigious film events, is set to return to the Croisette from 13th May to 24th May with a lineup that blends cinematic grandeur, political relevance, and breakout debuts. The official selection was announced last week, revealing a slate that has already ignited global conversation.
Big Names, Bold Themes This year&rsquo;s main competition welcomes a mix of established auteurs and timely narratives. Among the most anticipated titles:

First-Time Directors Steal the Spotlight In the Un Certain Regard section, two Hollywood stars are stepping behind the camera for the first time:

<li>Scarlett Johansson makes her directorial debut with Eleanor the Great, a character-driven drama.</li>
<li>Harris Dickinson helms Urchin, a coming-of-age tale rooted in gritty realism. Their inclusion highlights Cannes' support for emerging voices transitioning from acting to directing.</li>

Out-of-Competition Premieres &amp; Honors Spike Lee&rsquo;s much-anticipated remake of Akira Kurosawa&rsquo;s High and Low &mdash; titled Highest 2 Lowest &mdash; will screen out of competition, starring Denzel Washington. Initially left off the lineup due to late confirmation, the film&rsquo;s inclusion was later confirmed by festival director Thierry Fr&eacute;maux.
The festival will open with Am&eacute;lie Bonnin&rsquo;s debut Leave One Day, while Robert De Niro will receive the Palme d'Or d&rsquo;Honneur for his iconic contribution to world cinema.
Juliette Binoche has been named jury president, marking the second consecutive year the role is held by a woman &mdash; a significant statement amid ongoing industry conversations around gender equity in film.
