The Critics Choice Super Awards just dropped their 2025 nominations, and it’s a clear win for superhero and genre storytelling. Leading the film category are Deadpool & Wolverine and Thunderbolts, each scoring six nominations—cementing tight grip on the action and comic-adapted film space. Both films are in the running for Best Superhero Movie and Best Action Movie, with cast nods for Ryan Reynolds, Hugh Jackman, Florence Pugh and Sebastian Stan.

Over on the TV side, The Last of Us proves it’s more than just a critically acclaimed adaptation—it’s this year’s most-nominated series. With six nominations, including Best Superhero Series and Best Horror/Fantasy Series, plus acting nods for Pedro Pascal and Bella Ramsey, the show continues to shape what prestige genre television looks like. It also grabbed attention for Best Villain and Best Ensemble.

Also in the mix: Godzilla Minus One, Rebel Moon – Part One: A Child of Fire, The Boys, The Mandalorian and Stranger Things, all making solid showings across their respective categories.

The Critics Choice Super Awards were created to specifically recognize excellence in superhero, sci-fi/fantasy, horror and action—genres that often dominate the box office but get overlooked at traditional awards shows. This year’s nominees reflect the crossover power of these franchises and their ability to resonate on both cinematic and emotional levels.

Winners will be announced on Thursday, 7th August, 2025, at 9 a.m. PT on the Critics Choice website.
