Meet Mark!

Mark moved to Cairo in 2013, which means he's Egyptian enough by now.

He grew up in the north of England in a city called Hull, which has an Egyptian-owned football team called Hull City. So perhaps it was his true calling to move to Cairo after all. When he’s not at work, he can be found eating his way around Cairo or home binge-watching TV shows. Oh and he’s an Aries.

He's been a radio presenter since he was 17 years old, and he couldn't be happier to be now waking up in Egypt every morning doing his duty as personal psychotherapist to his partner in crime, Sally. That keeps him busy!

Mark, do you speak any other languages?

I barely speak English most of the time.

What advice would you give your 15 year old self?

Move to Cairo sooner! I came here when I was 30 and it’s the best thing I ever did. I love the city and I love the country. It’s a great place to live.

What’s the most adventurous thing you’ve ever done?

I’m really not an adventurous person. I’ve been up in a glider to broadcast live from the sky for a previous radio station I worked for and that was scary enough for me.

If you were to spend your lifetime advocating a cause, what would it be?

There is one thing that makes any society better and improves lives and takes people out of poverty and that is the education of women.

What is your worst habit?

I’m soooo lazy. Motivating myself to do anything after work is hard.

What are three things you cannot live without?

My family, my pets and friends.

What superpower do you wish your pets had?

I have 8 cats. I wish they all had the super power to clean their own litter trays.

Favorite musician of all time?

Freddie Mercury. The most amazing vocalist and showman.

Favorite TV show of all time?

That’s hard but I’d probably say The West Wing. I can watch it over and over.

Favorite Egyptian food?

Shawerma. With loads of tomeya and fries in the sandwich.

Craziest thing you’ve ever seen in Cairo?

People sitting in a tuk tuk on the back of another tuk tuk on the back of a truck.

Name one thing in Egypt you wish you could take back with you to England.

A pyramid or two, we don’t have any.

What’s something from England that you think would fit perfectly well in Egypt?

My Mum and her cooking. I wish she lived next door.

What’s the funniest thing that’s ever happened to you when you were on-air?

Nothing funny has ever happened on The Morning Show. (I joke, too many to think of. Everyday is something new).
